the original Soul Calibur was innovative and amusing back in the arcade, but the consoles realy didn't stand up well in standards of gameplay verse The Dead or Alive series. Better Graphics, and I enjoyed the gameplay much more. I think the one major reason that Soul Calibur was such a hit was because it was advertised and commercialized non-stop.

lol people like dead or alive becuse its a mashers dream and the controls are way to sluggy in soul cal you actually have to put in moves and be good at it. ive played all and soul caliber is fast paced as well as graphics even though dead or alive does have better back ground but in play soul caliber all the way look at critcs and gameing magazines.

a friend of mine is actually a button masher. I was able to kill him with counters alone, used one button. And, as such, I disagree, Soul Calibur is just as susceptible to button mashers.

yeah...they both get cover storys, they both get hella good reviews. But Tecmo is excellent at making good games, Ninja Gaiden? C'mon, cult classic, and it totally kicks a**. Namco has PacMan for the first that comes to mind, and...no thank you. I stil vote DOA, and I am going to kill for a copy of DOA4 when it hits the shelves. whee

Namco sounds really familiar...like one of my really favorite games was made by them.
and i can still pull off that move by Ryu Hayabusa (originally from Ninja Gaiden) where its 3 different inputs. you know the one i'm talking about Takai. The one i magically pulled off and killed ya... cool

She's from a later timeline than Master Chief, and apparently has a storyline to match. Looks like the Xbox has a Metroid Archetype, now xd

Ok, so I went and picked this game up over the weekend... Holy s**t....This game is like almost everything I wished a fighting game was and had.
I am especially in love with the Chronicles of the Sword Campaign. Its like a huge strategy game, with a really decent story.
Anyone figure out what the "Special Abilities" of the weapons are? I can't find any translation for those damn pictures....

I have yet to play #3... crying
Though I have played and beaten both 1 and 2.
One thing I did find out though. Never play SC2, then switch to SC1(or worse, Soul Blade the original in the series for the playstation), the game feels like it is going in slow motion...

mrgreen I am so ******** psyched that I don't think I will be sleeping for that first week I got it.
Which reminds me....I still got 2 more floors to go through on Riku's Story in Chain of Memories, s**t....

I love Soul Calibur 3! Especially the Chronicles of the Sword mode. I made my character a weapons master who turned out looking like Ashram from Record of Lodoss War. It was still awesome though.
