Shakespeare has been so thoroughly proliferated as an icon of English literature that hating him has become a very common, very standard form of contrarianism and self-aware non-conformity. However, many of the people who reject him have never really taken the time to read his work, which is, in all honesty, as good as all the hype suggests. Shakespeare wasn't just a master of his language, he was a pioneer who virtually invented what we now know as wit and wordplay.
My favorte play of his is likely Macbeth, followed by King Lear. My favorite of his histories is Richard III. My favorite of his comedies is Much Ado About Nothing, followed by The Comedy of Errors.

i've read some of much ado about nothing, macbeth, and romeo & juliet. out of those my favorite was macbeth, though i needed it simplified for me, but i couldn't really get too into romeo & juliet. romance isn't really my thing. i probably wouldn't have read it though if it wasn't for school. not bashing shakespear but he's not really my favorite, though i understand how talented he was.

I remember in high school not very many people in my English class were excited to read a work by Shakespeare. I however, am always thrilled every time one of his plays is put in front of me. His writing is very eloquent and currently my favorite work by him is "A Midsummer Night's Dream." heart
