I'm having a bit of an issue with my cosplay for Anime Expo in California this year.

I'm cosplaying as both Lara Croft and Jill Valentine. Their guns are an essential part of their character and persona. The issue is with the weapons/prop policy. You can't use any kind of airsoft gun, even if its been completely gutted and rendered useless.

Any ideas as to what I could use for guns? Without their weapons, the cosplays are pretty pointless. sad

Try fake guns. Really, yes, they look like crap, but better than nothing. At AnimeNext there was a Dante with wooden pistols, but the costume still benefit from them, even though they were really... just wood blocks in the rough shape of guns. ha ha

Alternatively.. if you really want to get fancy, you can do a resin cast. Just make sure you paint the tip orange.. most cons require it for any gun, no matter how fake it looks.

As for them being a bit too harsh? Nah I don't think so. If you think about it, they have a ton of people going in and out of a con all day long. They can't keep checking people over and over, as people get annoyed, lines get backed up and there's still too much margin for error. Think about it, someone guts an airsoft to use it, they're checked by staff and Okay'd to go in. Later, they go back to their hotel or whatever, put the insides back in and go back to the con. Staff thinks they're ok and flags them through.. problems ensue.

Sure, it's a setback for you, but it's all for the safety of congoers and staff, as well as anyone who happens to be in the area. Just have to take things in stride and work around them.

I agree. I completely understand why they have to be so strict, especially with the con being in LA. If a cop were to see you brandishing a realistic looking gun and waving it around, it could get you shot.
