[-update coming soon-]

March 25 2009

Well, yesterday we had auditions for the always longed for fourth hour band. I was extremely nervous, but I didn't start shaking until after I was finished. Course, I had trouble even getting into the room to start auditions, since Kayla didn't tell me I had to audition until after I sat down...augh...
Because I'm a freshman and the high school's fourth hour starts before the ninth grade center's, I'm always late getting to band. So are the other six freshman, but I think most of the other have seats that are easily accessed from the front of the room. But it's very difficult for me to reach my seat, since Brawner(our band director) rearranged the fourth hour flutes. Instead of having four up front and five behind and to the side of them, second and third flutes are now directly behind first flutes. So, I have to climb over chairs, stands, and flute cases on a daily basis, and I usually share a stand because I don't trust myself to carry one over people's heads. I hate sharing stands with Kayla, though, since I think she hates my guts...
But anyway, auditions. I was, of course, the last flute to come up, and I got to play in front of Mr. Brawner. I thought originally that we were playing in front of the class, so even though Brawner scares me, it's better than screwing up in front of countless seniors and cruel sophomores and juniors.
But I still screwed up in front of Brawner.
This year we had to do full-range chromatic scale, F scale, and an excerpt from Norwegian Dance. Now, before I was put in front of Brawner, I had everything nailed, but when I got there, I missed a note on my chromatic and STOPPED. Worst thing to do is stop...but I finally continued and then did my other scale perfectly. Now, this part they gave us from Nowegian Dance? Andante. Easy. But my flute squeaked in the middle and startled me.
I returned to my seat after I groaned and left, and after a while one of the actually kind sophomores, Chantelise(I have no idea how to spell it) asked me how I did. When I said I messed up my chromatic, Kayla actually said something that I thought was nice. She said, "Eh, everybody misses chromatic scales." And Chantelise told me it would be fine.
Hopefully when I bring news of my audition, it will be that I've made fourth hour. :]

Rumor has it that tomorrow, not only are we finding out which band we made, but we are also having a playing test. On ANYTHING we've been given. So, if we play the downward scale things on Starry Crown, or a few of the Polka & Fugue parts...I'm screwed.
But, hey, maybe tomorrow will be somewhat good. I mean, day before spring break, no fifth and sixth hour(even though I love those classes), and maybe the possibility that I made fourth hour band. Ah, glory~.
Oh, maybe I won't have to do my playing test!! I HAVE A LESSON!!! Yesss...
Mrs. Flygstad(FLAG-stad) is the most amazing tutor. She's been my lesson instructor since the sixth grade. She's so awesome. She's the one who got me into doing Solos&Ensembles, and she always gives me pieces that I think are just the coolest things ever. Haha, like I remember she gave me Little Dance one year, Badinerie, and this year I had Syrinx(AMAZING song. Look it up!!). And she's pregnant. Hahaha, I can't wait til she starts showing. XD
More tomorrow~

I made fourth hour band! :] Haha, I was so excited when I found out, but finding out made me late to English. Ah well. I made fourth hour! Hahaha, I'm last chair, but still. That really relieves me.
Anyway, had a playing test today! I did okay, luckily it wasn't a chair test. I went to Jana and did some of the test for me, and then we did a duet and all was well. She told me she'd been feeling sick for a few days, which is scary when you're pregnant. I hope everything is okay. :[
Kind of upset today, so I don't feel like writing much...

April 9

Spring Break is over!!! Well, it's been over for almost a week...
But anyway. I hate sectionals. WITH A PASSION. I feel like I have such little talent when I have to play in front of seniors and juniors, and even the sophomores. Plus I have to play next to Kayla, who I think doesn't like me. I think I've already said that about twenty times, but whatever...
Actually, speaking of Kayla, she let me borrow her screwdriver yesterday. I thought she would just let me sit there and try to tighten the screw with my nails, but she offered for me to use it and told me I could give it back today. Except I was sick today, so...she'll have to wait. D:
But, anyway, sectionals. Don't have them often, they aren't very long, but I HATE them. I feel like the newb, the sucky player. Which, technically, I am the newb, since I'm the only freshman floutist in fourth hour...which technically makes me the sucky player. But anyway.
My band director is mister Tom Brawner. Intimidating to pretty much all freshmen and definitely the middle school students. He's nice to me, but I'm still scared of him. He recently made it so students in each section lead the individual sectionals. Pretty much whoever's first chair.
Makes it kind of awkward, to me.
So on Tuesday we had a sectional, and Ariel led us.
Ariel seems extremely nice. She was homecoming queen, she's first chair, and she just doesn't seem snobby at all. She let us pick where we wanted to practice and we were rather successful, got a lot of things done.
And then ten-thirty came and almost everybody left except for me and the two other third flutes, Danielle and Kayla, and a second flute, Samantha, another senior and another extremely kind person. It was awkward. Haha.
Speaking of Danielle!!! Switching topics a lot today...
Anyway, Danielle. She moved up to fourth hour from fifth hour, which I guess made her automatically last chair. I think she is also a senior, but anyway. Danielle actually became one of my heroes this year from band and she's one of two heroes that I do have. Now, I could easily see why Ariel would be any freshman's hero, or even Natasha or Teal, but Danielle is mine. She actually talks to me a little. And she isn't mean to me.
but anywayyy! Bored with this so I'll post tomorrow.

Dang, I haven't been on in forever...
Time to catch up!

April 30 we started heading down to ATLANTA! On Thursday we pretty much just chilled and had a dance. On Friday we went to the Brave's game, the aquarium, the World of Coke, and this gross little restaraunt called the Varsity or whatever. I didn't like it at all. Haha. XD
Saturday was the actual competition. I got to play with sixth hour since they have two flutists only, both freshmen, and it was awesome. Except friggin Christian(first chair) forgot his flute and could barely play an open-hole so I had to play a few things by myself...
But it was still AMAZING. When fourth hour played, our BD screwed up his counting and we nearly messed up Polka & Fugue. But we prevailed! And Starry Crown...
My God, Starry Crown was amazing. =D
So we got a distinguished and we tied for first place out of like eleven bands, and we got a lot of beastly trophies.
In other words, Dixie Classic was amazing for 2009.
So then, we went to a symphony that evening and they played three songs. It took two hours. SNORE! But it was still pretty-sounding! :]
SO, now, we have to learn three pieces in one week for our concert on Sunday. WE CAN DO EET!
One makes absolutely no sense because Aaron wrote it and the other makes Starry Crown look hard.
HOLYCRAP.
Aaron's stupid piece...psht...seriously, its name is Overture: ??? . No joke. He saws it like, "OVERTURE????"
GAY!!!!!
Anywayyy, had to turn in my marching uniform on Saturday a few hour =s before freshman prom. :[ Made me sad.
And pissed because I learned that I left my band shoes on the friggin Atlanta bus.
DANGIT.
So, few days of school left...you know what that means.....
BAND CAMP!!!!
It's soon!
SOON I TELL YOU!
Sorry. Excited.
Ha. :]
I'll write again eventually! Sayounara~

This week was so full of random band crap.
We had drum major tryouts on, what, Tuesday? Then we had a brass quintet on Thursday, and an AMAZING saxaphone player on Friday, and now we have a concert today--without band uniforms! I'm so happy. O_o
So, the brass quintet was friggin awesome, they played a whole bunch of cool stuff. The last two songs they played were When I'm 64 by The Beatles, and the Pink Panther theme. BEAST!
The sax player was an old friend of our bd and his fingers were flying...I thought mine were gonna fall off just watching his.
More later...
