The year is 2112, by what calendar no one is sure.

Space travel exploded into the mainstream a few decades after the dawn of the new millenium; the Shaw-Fujikawa trans-light engine made it possible to travel massive distances in relatively short periods of time. Trips between planets shrank from centuries to weeks, even days in some of the fastest ships, or by using government built warp stations, rings of electromagnets used to propel spacecraft along, like a high-speed tunnel.

This should have marked a golden age for humanity, a unification of all people into one collective race of Earth.

But no, soon colonies weer being founded on distant planets that created their own nations far from the prying eyes of the world. Illegal activities could now be performed in areas that had no law or no one to enfore it.

It all broke down when the polar ice caps flooded Earth, destroying much of the land and flooding many cities, turning them into ruins of an age long past.

Now, the Earth exists as a loose confederation of surviving countries, and all space within travel range of earth is policed by INTERPOL forces, though their actual enforcement power is nominal, and many of their officers have become corrupt.

It's he new frontier, the 'Old West' all over again. There is no law, this is a world of criminals and bounty hunters. Only the strong survive.

Bounty Hunters: interested only in money, they go after criminals for whom rewards have been offered, usually by INTERPOL; many have banded together, but in larger groups their avaricious nature leads to conflict between partners

Raiders: interested in what can be stolen or otherwise easily obtained, raiders loot everything from wayward ships to cmall colonies, often forming large gangs and carrying substantial weaponry to intimidate and neutralize civilian resistance as well as protection from INTERPOL forces

INTERPOL agents: peacekeeps of the galaxy (the miniscule explored and heavily populated area, at least), the Interplanetary Police were formed to combat rampant crime taking place in the abyss of uncharted space; some say they have been ridiculousy unsuccessful, but others argue that they're improving what was once an utterly lawless frontier; the agents make regular patrols and guard warp gates and highways - the only viable means of transportation between distant planets

Civilians: regular people living everyday lives out there in the wide blue... err... black yonder; the planets of the galaxy are as diverse as they are numerous - some haven't even advanced beyond the Stone Age while some are stuck in endless feudal wars; it can be a severe culture shock to go from a medieval society to the reality of high-tech space dominance

History: Raised to be an INTERPOL officer in NeoTokyo, Japan, Keizo left home at 16 and joined a group of pirates. He learned the basics of flightshp combat and mechanics from them, then ended up on a cruiser with a team of his own.

(This roleplay is a Cowboy Bebop / Outlaw Star ripoff, in case you hadn't noticed... rofl)

The crew of the ship "Valiant Saki" (named after Keizo's cat) is comprised of KZ himself and a few bounty hunters. The ship's navigator is a female android (if anyone wants to play this character, be my guest).

We basically just cruise around and kill stuff.
