Is all that we see or seem...

here it goes:
My daughter is 2 and a half and yet she has a trouble talking. Period. She still only knows some words. It could be due to the fact that Im bilingual [[I speak Portuguese && English]] and my grandparents are trying to teach her portuguese as well...but I don't know. She only knjows some words in EITHER language and speaks in her own made up one. I just don't know what to do!!! She loves to watch her TV shows and watch her dvds [[which are ALL in english]] but she doesnt seem to be picking up anything from that. We have a TON of educational toys which she doesnt play with. And when my husband and I try to get her to sit down so we can either read to her or teach her some words, she refuses. I just dont know what to do!! I know all children are different and learn at different paces but...this makes me feel like a very inadequate parent.

Does anyone know of something I could try to do?

...but a dream within a dream?

it is perfectly normal for a child who's learning more then one language to use words from both langauges in their own special langauge like inserting a random english word in a mainly portageis sentance, and child all start speaking at different times, my daughter is 2 and a half and she still speaks in basic basic sentances, if that mostly one word surfices for her LOL

Every child is different. I know friends of mine have a little girl who just turned 6, and she still doesn't use proper sentences and babbles in her own made up language. That isn't to say she can't speak properly, she just chooses not to. She prefers her way of speaking, because it makes more sense to her.
A made up language is like an imaginary friend. It is something they create to comfort themselves, and its a little world they can escape to if they are bored or unhappy.
I know my friend's daughter will often use her babbling to gain the attention of her parents when she wants it, negative though the attention may be when she does it.

Silvermoon is right, my mother didn;t talk until she wa like 6, she was silent for the most part barely used her words then one day out of the blue she started talking in full sentances, we assume it has to do with ehr personality type, extremely shy, I think my little sister did a similair thing, mind you my daughter won;t shut up >.> kinda like me ^_^

My son is almost three, and he doesn't talk either, at first I was worried, but the truth is, every child develops in their own way. Just wait.
When she does start talking, she'll probablly never stop until she's down for bed. So don't stress too much. When her doctor thinks it is a serious problem, then you worry.
