Prompt Soul Society's slowly growing on you but there's just that something looming at the back of your head; your past, how you came to be. What do you remember? What was it like? How did you die and how did you come to enter Soul Society?

It hadn't been that long since Akane had arrived in Soul Society-only fifty years. It didn't seem to be very long to a soul that had only been living for sixteen years on Earth. But those past fifty years seemed to go by too quickly for Akane to remember them. They all seemed like a blur, unlike her past. She had gotten used to kimono by now but it was still unfamiliar to her. She longed for the old days when she would wear a sun-dress in the summer and a gown in the winter. If only she had a little more time as a human, then the transition she had to make from a human to a soul probably would have been easier for her.
She sighed softly as she let her legs hang over the side of the river that her 'family's' house was next to. It was a privilege to have a house near the river. She was thankful to have been adopted into this family. She didn't know what she would have done if she had to live deeper in Soul Society. She let her thoughts drift away towards her past, the memories clawing at her from the depth of her mind. Was it Fate that lead her to die at a young age or was it something else? She hadn't the slightest clue why she had died when she did or why her brother had to die, too. Hopefully he was doing fine with his adopted family. She began to think back on that fateful day that lead to her death and she gazed up at the sky, ignoring anyone that may come by her at that moment.

She was with her family one winter evening, her mother bundled up near the fireplace knitting a wool sweater. They had just finished dinner when there was a dull thud in the hallway leading towards the front door. A few moments later a tall, shaggy-looking man with a hunting knife came running into the living room. He quickly gazed around the room and snatched up one of her older brother.
"Nobody make any sudden movements or else this little lad is going to loose his head," said the man in a deep, husky voice. Her mother shook slightly with fear, her knitting needles dropping down to her lap. Akane stared up at the intruder, fear in her eyes. The man ignored everyone in the room as he glanced back at the front door, almost as if he was expecting someone to come by. "The police are going to be coming soon but I have bargaining chips," he said in a soft whisper, low enough for no one to hear outside but loud enough for his captives to hear him. "If all of you are quiet and do as I tell you, you might escape here with your lives but if you don’t," he said, pressing the knife against Akane’s brother’s throat, causing a thin line of red to appear on the flesh. "Then you might end up dead."
The entire family sat in silence, afraid of what the mad-man might do to his hostage. Akane's mother was the one who was the most afraid of the situation. She kept glancing to the front door, then to the mad-man, and then to her other children, keeping her eyes moving from these three areas almost constantly, as if she was afraid that something might happen within the few seconds that she let either area out of her sight.

Akane suddenly bolted upright. She hadn't thought that those memories were that strong. She figured that they were buried deep down in her mind and that she would only remember glimpses of them. She closed her eyes again and thought back to after the mad man had barged into her mother's home and only got blurs. It seemed that the tragedy that she went through a few hours after the mad man appeared were too harmful for her to remember. She didn't remember anything after that point. She sighed loudly and let her body fall back down on the ground. She was thankful that she didn't remember the pain of her dying or the pain of seeing her older brother die before her. She wondered where he was at this moment. He probably had a family of his own. Maybe he didn't even remember her. She gazed up at the sky and noticed that the sun was slowly making its way down towards the ground, a clear indication that she had spent almost the entire day here.
Blinking a few times, she tried to remember again how she died but gave up after a few tries. It probably was best if she didn't remember the pain of her dying. She nodded to herself. Yes, it probably was the best thing for her. Getting up off of the ground, she brushed her kimono off and jogged towards the street to get back home to her new family. They were probably getting worried about her. Despite her telling them that she was old enough to take care of herself, they still insisted that she stay with them. Was it because they sensed that something was going to happen to her soon? Or maybe she was destined to be with a family for a while before her brother would find her and take her away? She stared down at the ground as she wandered in the direction of her home. She hoped that her brother would find her...and soon. It wasn't like she hated her new family. She just didn't really feel like she belonged there.
