Nikia scratched on the back door, located in the kitchen. She waited patiently for one of her beloved owners to beckon to her, letting her out in the back yard to romp around. When no one respond, Nikia just sighed and whined quietly. She heard a murmur and moments later, the large two legger, smiling down at her, opened the door. Her tail wagged slowly, knocking in to the kitchen table hind her as she waited for the door to open wide enough for her dart out into the sun shine.
Ginger, her 'room mate', usually went out side with her but the lazy cocker spaniel had decided to be lazy today, leaving Nikia alone. Oh well, she'd just have to find something more interesting to do is all. Nikia soon found herself bored out of her mind with nothing to do. There was nothing to chase, no one to play hide and seek with, and no one to play fetch. Huffing she laid out on the porch, bathing in the sun.
Impossible to nap! The heat was smoldering when laying so still. Shaking her fur out once, she stood to her feet then something caught her eye. She saw that Ginger, the little excavator, had begun digging at hole in the far corner of the back yard. Perking any eyebrow, Nikia looked over her shoulder for a quick check. Good. No one was watching.
Trotting to the small hole, she found it would most defiantly not be big enough so she began hauling the dirt out with her front paws. It wasn't long before the hole had tripled in size and now was perfect for her. Slipping out with little difficulty, she was now on the out side of the fence! Hurray for her! Dazzled by the other side of her wooden fence, she cocked her head. Now what was she to do?
