...that the Sookie Stackhouse series doesn't have more male fans.

I mean, the smain character is a busty, gorgeous blonde who works as a waitress/barmaid. Even gay guys could appreciate *UGH* Eric. -_-

Also, I'm gonna have to gripe about SOME fans I know who act like those girls at my school who are so obsessed with Edward Cullen, to the point of thinking he's real.

This one girl at my school might turn me off S.S. altogether...Hehe.

So far, you guys are fine; some of you guys may be obsessed, but thie guild is altogether peachy appley, and don't go so far as to start planning a wedding with Eric and themselves...A wedding during the day.

I really don't know what guys like in books, not being one myself, but I'm trying to convince my husband to read the first book. I might be able to convince him to do it, even if it's just to humor me. He likes the show so maybe he'll like the books too.

I'm a huge fan of Eric but definitely not to the point of plastering him all over my house and fantasizing about running off with him. I'd be terrified of him in real life anyway, so I'd rather have him book character form. I do hate the really rabbid fan girls though. Sadly, I enjoyed Twilight. It was a guilty pleasure for me. It wasn't well written, but I still liked it. Now, with all of the freak fans running around, I'm afraid to even admit to having read it, let alone enjoying it slightly. Some people are just crazy. razz

As for Bubba, I love him! biggrin I wish they'd include him in the show.

Yea, I'm pretty surprised there aren't more guys. I mean, all the action and blood and guts, you'd think they'd be willing to read it. But I think most guys would have a problem relating to Sookie and her trials. Women have a much easier time understanding what she's going through.

Although I have moments where I start screaming at her in the books not to do something.

....I'll admit, I'm pretty came obsessed with Eric. However, its a silent obsession. Only those really close to me know how very serious it is. I've seen what rabid fan girls can do to a series and I refuse to do that to this one. Especially to a character like Eric. So I just obsess in silence. (Only in my RPs do I let it slip. As Nyx and Belle would know.)

I'm with you Mith, I really did enjoy Twilight as a guilty pleasure. I got the first two books last summer for my birthday and went out two days later to get the third. I quickly became obsessed, joined a fan community (where I actually did meet some really great people and made a lot of good friends) and even became a moderator. But when the movie came out I just couldn't take it anymore. Its good but its not that good.

And I always hated Edward! He's such a damn p***y! He's way too much of a Gary Sue for me and it just pissed me off. I am still totally Team Jacob.

The fourth book really pissed me off too because that's when Meyer totally screwed up the vampire lore and crossed a line that no one should cross in front of me. VAMPIRES CAN'T MAKE BABIES 'CAUSE THEY ARE DEAD!

*takes a deep breath*

Yea, you really shouldn't start me on this rant.

James Nyx

Meh. James is better. Too bad they killed him off in the first book though. At least they got someone good to play him in the movie.

And Kate, you don't obsess about Eric. You enthusiastically smother him with your love.

I'm not surprised only because I don't know how many guys like reading a girls perspective. Plus I noticed girls read more in their spare time then guys......well at least were i'm at.

James was pretty kick a**, I gotta say. So was Laurent. I wish we'd seen more of him. I gotta admit, I do love some of the Twilight characters, but the main ones not so much.

You're right Riku, girls do read a lot more than guys. Plus, since its written by a woman, its going to be aimed toward women. Although, if guys really want to know how to get a girl, they could definitely take a few pointers from Eric.

Say you only like her body, be a jerk, demean her, and then lose your memory and be naked? Yeah, it sounds like a good idea.

Some girls like it that way.

But I mostly meant book 4 Eric.

Personally, I am actually surprised there aren't more fans of the series in general. The characters are more interesting/better developed in my opinion. I rarely come across fans, myself, outside of the internet.

I've gotta say I read the Twilight series before S.S. novels and I loved them. I picked up Dead After Dark and I was like "what is Twilight?" Honestly the series is written way better and has more complex plot lines than Twilight.

My fiancee started watching True Blood with me. He was tired of not understanding what I was talking about with my cousin. He loves the show but for him to pick up a book thats not a textbook or on the "required reading list" is a long shot. Plus I don't think he'd really get into all of Sookie's man problems.

I hated the twilight series soo much.all the girls went crazy over it at my school!ugg. stare it was so annoying i refused to get into the series. my boyfriend read it before me, jus to see what was so great about it,but it wasn't.i just recently read the first one.and i related to it and liked edward and bellas romance.but it wasn't written that well and im not about to join a cult over it.but now the sookie stackhouse novels, theyre amazing! my friend showed me them, and i love them.all the characters are well developed and the writing is great.its not just a tween novel series.
i love bubba!! i was shocked to hear that they didn't put him in the show. they definately should.

I know what you mean. I am a Twilight fan, and yep i'm a lil crazy for it, i admit it....no point denying it. My obsession was not a loud one, i just use to wear Twilight shirts on Tuesdays and that was it...but after the movie AND the fourth book, it just killed it. I started reading the books and going to myself "why did i waste my time?" but i still read them (i pretend like those bad bad things never happened) and when i was re-reading them the other day, i realized that S. Meyer went against every vampire myth there is! Bram Stocker created this awesome character that it was deadly and seductive but still had its flaws and people could defend themselves against it. Bella goes against everything i believe in, she is dependant of Edward, she cannot do anything for herself, practically a damsel in distress etc. and its just absurb! and the vamps are just too perfect!! even Eric in all his awesomeness has his flaws!! its just wrong! Sookie totally kicks Bella's butt!! GO SOOKIE!!! thank you for being a good role model!! (at least a better one than a hormonal teenager girl who for a life experience asked to eff his boyfriend).
