That Tekko was pretty lame this year. Not many people showed up either.
Tekko always was kind of boring. Actually, anime conventions are sort of boring in general. Like... if you cosplay you have that at least. If you don't, you can be a creep and take pictures of a bunch of random people. If you play video games you can waste your time there playing games... which you could be doing at your home anyway. You can go to the video rooms and watch anime... which you could be doing at your home anyway. You can go to different panels where a lot of lame people talk about even lamer stuff sometimes.
"Oh hey, I want to make a panel about zombie survival!" Yeah, whatever.
And then you can spend money to go to the dealers room and artist alleys to potentially spend even more money on stuff you don't even need anyway.
I don't know... honestly my favorite part about conventions is just being around friends and stuff, but why do I need a convention to do that?!

Then why do you bother going or commenting? razz It's the point of going to have fun! You go to video rooms to watch anime you've never seen before so you know if you would like to buy it in the future. Some panels can be fun, but they're run by regular anima/game fans looking to hold a fun panel for people to attend!
And the whole point of going to a con is to get away and hang out with friends and make new friends as well! With all of us there, we all have the same things in common! biggrin So it just depends on a person's situation. Some go mainly for the dealer's room. Some like to go for the dances (Anime Dance friday, Rave dance Sat), some go for Hall Cosplays/Skits (like me and my friend razz ), etc.
If you're not happy with conventions, why bother going and complaining about them? XD

I agree. You make of the con what you will. A friend of mine was a first time convention attendee this year. About 2-3 hours at the con he mumble he was bored. I don't know what he expected but he also seemed not to be trying to have fun. I was taking pictures and figuring which panel to go to. Saying that, I have been to a lot of cons and all the Tekkos and most panels seem to be the same anymore but I look for a positive in it all. I even went to yoai panels to do something different. 4laugh

I can see what you mean about the conventions becoming monotonous after a while; but the same can be applied to any other part of life. The best parties you'll ever go to will become unimpressive after you've been to enough, the most awesometastic videogame will undoubtedly become less interesting once you've beaten it. What counts is how you make it interesting; you can't just depend on the atmosphere around you to magically cook up amusement for you. If you don't like the panels, host a new unique one yourself, or make some incredibly strange art and sell it in the AA. I can't say anything much different from what the previous posters have said, but I also stress that the point of the convention is to come together with other people who share the same interests.

Tekko only seemed lame to you because the economy is slow, more people with less money for such things. It now certainly has room to expand, provided things can pick up. Then compared to last years Tekko the crowd only seemed bigger because at least to me it seemed like we were in a cramped area. This year's Tekko wasn't bad, it was just average.

Yes, Tekko was pretty lame this year, i'll agree. The space we had wasn't really put to good use, it was unorganized, bland, there wasn't enough panels/content, and all in all it was pretty much just plain boring unless you could create your own entertainment. (Which I did, see my youtube vids for more info on this.) All in all, I was dissapointed in Tekkoshocon this year yet again, so much so that I may be taking my con-going elsewhere. Because I am tired of wasting 45$ on stupidity, plus if it's going to be at the DLLCC as a permanent venue, the Westin was just a little too fancy for my tastes and EXTREMELY overpriced to the point we had to split a room five ways. Tekkoshocon needs to find a venue which isn't too small like the Raddison in Greentree, isn't too big like the DLLCC. Like......... the Expomart. :/ I was also dissapointed in the cosplay because there weren't as many well-put together, wonderful cosplays which I love to gander at the craftsmanship of....... just alot of dumbass Kandi Kids, people dressed in street clothing with a little bit of Japanese flair, repeat cosplays from last year, or the all-too-typical hoarde of Bleach, Naruto, and Kingdom Hearts cosplays which I am not afraid to say that IT GETS OLD.
I'm also not afraid to say that you seem lame, sir. You seem like the kind of boring squared ******** who stays indoors all day. Sure, you can do all those things at home, but isn't it nice to get out of the house once in awhile? Mingle among likeminded peers and anime/manga/videogame persons? Sure, you can do those things in the privacy and comfort of your own home, but at conventions you can get your game on in the gaming room and PLAY WITH OTHER PEOPLE. You can go to the viewing rooms and WATCH WITH OTHER PEOPLE. You can go to panels and LEARN ABOUT THINGS YOU MAY NOT HAVE KNOWN ABOUT PREVIOUSLY, AND THAT YOU MAY PERHAPS ENJOY.
Unless you are some anti-social square who thinks everything's "lame" and "boring" and dosen't like to crawl out of your mother's basement/apartment/etc. :'D Conventions give you the oppertunity to meet fresh faces, mingle with like-minded individuals. That right there, is 99% OF THE REASON I GO TO TEKKOSHOCON. I have met so many chill, interesting and amusing people there it's not even funny. Some of these people, whom I have MET AT TEKKOSHOCON, have even become close friends of mine.
It's true, you don't need a convention to be around friends and "stuff". But once in awhile, it's nice to come out of your shell and branch out in a sea of like-minded otaku/video game enthusiasts, and maybe even your occasional weeaboo. Learn to live a little, and give things a chance. Maybe then you will like what you see. :3

Ghey Guy Tekkoshocon needs to find a venue which isn't too small like the Raddison in Greentree, isn't too big like the DLLCC. Like......... the Expomart. Impossible, the Expomart is no longer available for con events. It was bought and is under new management and they have no plans to hold any con events there any time soon. The Pittsburgh Comicon has been there for years and for the first time even the PCC has had to look else where for a new con site. So for the Tekkoshocon it either has to be at the DLLCC or they might have to move it out of Pittsburgh completely. And then it will be just like how the Otakon went, Otakon started in State College, PA at the Days Inn on Pugh str. I know, I was there. It's second year it was still in State College but by it's 3rd year they needed more room and had to go all the way to Baltimore, and eventually to where we know the Otakon to be a permanent fixture in downtown Baltimore. I've suggested at one time years ago the Otakon set up in Pittsburgh at the DLLCC, they didn't for what ever reasons. If you want the Tekkoshocon to stay in Pittsburgh, the DLLCC is likely to be the only place they can set up at. If there was something about the Tekkoshocon and it's location you didn't like I'd suggest you go to the Tekko forums and take it up with them there.

If you want the Tekkoshocon to stay in Pittsburgh, the DLLCC is likely to be the only place they can set up at. Thanks for pointing that out, however I am quite aware of this. I know the Expomart in Monroeville is no longer an option in terms of venue for Tekkoshocon, it's been bought out/whatever else and apparently they have plans to demolish half of it, etc. I was simply saying in terms of size, the Expomart was the perfect venue for Tekkoshocon because it wasn't too big or small and was in a convenient location. Also, I can't really say I care too much anymore because for the past two years Tekkoshocon has just been a complete and utter dissapointment to me in terms of content, so I am thinking of taking my con-going elsewhere. All in all, Tekko' just needs to get their s**t together, because i'm not the only one who agrees that Tekko' could use alot of improvements in terms of organization, content, and other various aspects. And if I do go back next year, the only reason i'll go is because of friends and people who I want to see and spend time with from Tekko'. (And of course, the Gaia panel.)

Well that's what they need feedback for, maybe some new staffer to organize it better.
Although as I've said, with a down economy even if they did barely make enough to plan next year. Anime cons rely on some help from anime translators and distribution companies like ADV, Funimation and such. With them taking hits like they are now. Well, let's say it hurts anime cons as well.
Come to think of it, were not the majority of anime shown at Tekko this year licensed titles? Very few if little to no unlicensed anime. I think they must get the ok from license holders to run anime at cons, can some one else conferm this?

Yeah...and we need Tekko to stay in Pittsburgh because.....it's a con FOR Pittsburgh. There is no sense in sending Tekko way out of the way of Pittsburgh...when it's name came from our city! XD
*copies from site* tek.KO.sho noun: Steel Mill, steel industry tek.KO.sho.con noun: A Japanese Animation and Asian Culture Convention based in Pittsburgh, PA
So we have to do whatever we can to help them STAY in Pittsburgh (or close by), or the name for this con is useless! XD
I can agree about the panels, though. But, Tekko also depends on us con-goers to offer up panels to make! So if people don't hold panels and share their passions, then how can they add more if they aren't showing interest in people who want to run them? We have to think of that too! razz
And I can agree with the pricing of the hotel...that was quite scary, but I don't mind splitting cost 5 ways biggrin That only ended up to be like $60 per person for the ENTIRE weekend. (Fri & Sat)
So we should all just group together and make things as fun as possible to make Tekko WORK. razz It takes the con-goers to make a con successful! So, I agree that all feedback should be given in the Tekko Forum. You just need to put yourself into their shoes and see what kind of a hectic weekend they go through!
They're responsible for around 3,000 people! I know it's still small for a con, but tell me that having 3,000 people looming over you with all sorts of high expectations isn't daunting and scary when you have only so much to work with? I know people say staffers can be grumpy etc etc, but I can only imagine what kind of stress they go through the ENTIRE weekend. Trying to make things run as smooth as they can when problems arise. There is no trial run to these things. They have to fix things as they go, working with that they have.
