☄ Flight of the Polaris

Project Diaspora was the greatest human undertaking in the history of the species. 10 missions, 10 ships, 10 colonizable planets, 10 stars, a total of 304,000 voyagers launching themselves across the void to spread humanity out to the stars.

In 2090, the 10 Solaris-class colonization pilot ships were launched from the orbit of Mars as part of phase 2 of the project. Their mission: to lay down the foundation for a thriving human colony on a new world, and to prepare for the arrival of the phase 3 Columbia-class colony starships, each carrying over 30,000 colonists who would form the population of new human civilizations under distant suns.

But on the starship Polaris, bound for 37 Geminorum, something has gone horribly wrong....

For those that don't already know, Polaris is a science-fiction mystery. In the not-too-distant future, a colony ship is bound for a distant star with sleeping crew intended to colonize an Earth-like planet around that star. It is the first attempt by humanity to colonize other star systems, and everything was carefully planned and meticulously executed. It is completely unforeseeable that anything could go wrong.

Needless to say, something goes wrong. But what, exactly? That is for you to find out. All you know (at first) is that you've woken up out of the order you were supposed to wake up in. How could that have happened? You will have to ask the right questions, search for clues and find the answers.

And at the same time, you will have to find strength in your shipmates. You may be the only human beings in dozens of light years. Or, possibly, the only human beings left in the entire universe.

For those who do know, the story is now completely different. It will start the same, but your knowledge of the mystery and the clues from the previous mission will not help you here. Also, it will be much, much bigger, so your previous character profiles will have to be expanded a lot.

A brief update, just to keep appetites whetted.

As i keep saying, Polaris ⅠⅠ will be bigger, badder and better than before. To give you a taste of how big, bad and... er... bet... it's going to get, here is a little sample of what's to come. In the original Polaris, some of the key technologies that you needed to understand to solve the mystery were described but never shown. For example, the ubiquitous data pad was described, but there were no pictures to go along with it.

In this next-gen Polaris, everything will be accompanied by visuals, including the ship itself, the important props, and even the standard shipsuits. As a taste, here is a Polaris data pad, displaying a 3D image of a simple solar system:
