The Territory
Awesome PS map go here
For the most part, they have no real territory; instead, they merely wander through the mountains. But this map will be a map of where they've been and their path.

The History
The Beginning About a year ago, Old Silverback, the oldest living mountain dragon, began to gather up abandoned eggs and hatch them. The first three eggs were a pair of girls named Khala and Freckles and a boy named Cartography. OS raised the three of them, teaching them how to hunt, fish, and fend for themselves. When they were teenagers, OS gathered up another six eggs and asked the three teens to help him raise them. After a hectic day feeding the hatchlings, the nine young dragons asked OS where their parents were. OS sadly explained the story of the Plague that wiped out most of the mountain dragons. Informed that they were orphans, the dragons grew closer to each other. Cart, who had already had some notions of exploring the world, was touched by the idea of other dragon eggs like them waiting to be hatched. So he formed a plan with his new foster siblings and his best friend Freckles to travel throughout the mountains, finding clutches and hatching them. The Purpose The purpose of the Stone Compass Pack is simple: find orphaned or abandoned eggs and hatch them, raising them into adulthood. They accept any dragon who wants to join; unfortunately, due to their southerly location, it is unlikely that any northern dragons will be able to join. A secondary purpose of Stone Compass is to explore the mountains and gain a knowledge of the land. Cart's original ambition, after all, was to see the whole world. For now, the mountains--tomorrow...perhaps even more! Breaking Up Several months after the founding of the pack, Cart and Freckles fell in love and Freckles got pregnant. Horrified and a little angry, she left. A heartbroken Cart left the pack to track her down. Meanwhile, two of the hatchlings, Syoto and Ithnan, also left at that time. Achat, Cart's father who had earlier joined, left as the wanderlust took him. Sforkok, Cart's foster sister, was left in command. For now, she's controlling the pack as best she can until Cart returns--which he will, once his and Freckles's children are old enough to make the journey back. Return Has yet to happen! xD I need to get my butt in gear and get to RPing it.

Beliefs
The Environment The Stone Compass believes in Canon's motto: Leave the Wilderness as You Found it. Whenever they leave a camp, go through and make sure that they leave it just as they found it. That way, other dragons will see the area as it originally was.
Children Children, no matter who they are or how old they are, are considered sacred. They are to be aided, taught firmly but not harshly, and treated with respect and dignity. No minute can be abandoned, no matter what they do. They can only be banished once they learn how to function on their own.
Love All love is sacred--straight or gay. Discrimination based on orientation or sex is severely condemned and will not be tolerated--remember, the West is a lesbian.
Other Packs Other packs have as much a right to the world as Stone Compass does. If another pack's scent markings are found, Stone Compass will not intrude on the territory or hunt prey from it without permission. If they meet a member of the other pack, they will ask questions about the territory in the nature of scientific interest. Stone Compass is also not an aggressive pack; they will fight in self-defense or in the defense of an adolescent only.
Other Beliefs No kings. No servants. Dragons were not meant to have such menial and arbitrary ranks. Also, there is a trust in life's path; whatever happens, it will turn out all right in the end.

Rituals
We need some passage into the pack, probably having to do with exploring or something...and there should be a thing about bonded pairs being allowed to go off on their own to find other eggs, hatch them, and bring them back to join the rest.
Rite of the Compass Coming of Age or Acceptance ritual A minute or second, just before becoming an adult, is taken out into the wilderness by a point or trusted degree. The guide will take a long and complex path, teaching the minute the principles of the pack; its traditions, its beliefs, and the history of the mountain dragons in general, from what little is known of pre-plague times to just before the minute was hatched/joined the pack. They will also pass on knowledge of all the places that the pack has lived in and the place it is in currently. At the end of a week, they turn around and the minute must show the guide the way back to the pack, which may or may not move during this time. On the return journey, the minute will repeat everything he or she learned. Once they return, the cardinals will quiz them on what they learned and ask the guide how they did on leading the way back home. After this, the minute or second is asked to swear an oath to uphold everything they learned during the rite; they then become a full-fledged degree.

Ranks = epic win
It should be forbidden to hurt a child or let a child come to harm. Definitely an "all children are sacred" type deal. And I agree with the environmental emphasis... and once Freckles gets back from her ordeal, she'll probably make damn sure everybody knows how to look after themselves, but that'd probably be more of a personal thing.
Dude. They remind me of forest rangers. xd

Oh! Oh! Maybe the passage into the pack is going off into the wildernes with a Cardinal, Point, or Degree for a week or so to learn the ways of the pack and how to survive? It could also work as a coming of age ritual. Actually, it works better as a coming of age ritual.

Probably--and if it is a coming of age ritual, it'll probably work well as a joining ritual. Maybe it should be called...hm...I'm sure we had a good word for getting used to your surroundings, or adjusting, or something like that in Field Geography...which, incidentally, I took in honor of this shop xD And I'm thinking that there ought to also be the belief that you will find what you seek if you trust in yourself and the world around you, since all of Cart's searching for Freckles landed him ten feet away from her. xD

Oh man yes. xd
What else can we draw on from the past experiences of the pack? No dragon kings, obviously, or servants. x3 Er... hm. Okay, here's another: love is what counts most, regardless of whether the relationship is straight or gay~

Right. Malachite and Sforkok would be angry if they did not accept homosexuality.
I was thinking of maybe calling the rite The Rite of the Compass? [Updates the ritual post]

They also need rules about other pack's boundaries. They don't want to trespass. Maybe when they meet another pack, they'll ask about the area so as to gain information? But they will not hunt in another pack's land unless they are given permission.
And there should also be some sort of questioning about the area and passing on information about all the areas the pack has been in during the Rite. That way, all degrees know about the rest of the mountains.
