I'm trying to setup a Linux home server. I'm currently running kbuntu but would like to have a bit border support for network cards. I plan on setting up a software raid on it with jbod. I'm not sure if this is possible. I may set it up to be a web server later on down the line. Though I will be using smb for shareing files between all computers on the network.
The server has 1 AMD Athlon XP 2200+ 2.5 Gb Ram. 10/100/1000 NIC (This card works just fine in Linux) 1 10/100 linksys NIC (This is the one with problems) 6 HDDs (the Linux OS resides on a 80gb HDD) 1 DVD ROM drive.
Any help would be appreciated.

What is the problem you are having with the Linksys NIC? I have used hundreds of cheap 10/100 NICs with Linux and not had any problems. (Also, JBOD is not RAID, if your drives are of equal size, you should consider RAID-5 instead of JBOD.)

Thanks for replying. Your right, i forgot about that. Well it a bunch of random drives. Ranging form 150gb to 350gb. As for the card, kbuntu does not see it. If I do ifconfig from the terminal all I get is the loop back and my gigabit card. The linksys card was working just fine with the server was running windows home server. I was wanting to use my server as a temp gateway but I found an extra router laying around, so the fact that it doesn't work does not bother me.

Run: $ sudo lspci To check if your linksys card is being reported to the OS and which specific model of card you have.

On top of that what are you planning on using the server for, besides maybe doing a web server on it? Make it a DHCP/DNS server, NFS, Samba, FTP, etc... As for the RAID because the HDDs are all different sizes I would recommend setting up RAID 0 you won't have parity or anything but should work.
