Thanks for starting this thread, Gorenza! Now, on to the discussion! blaugh As I said in the Hellsing Ends, Drifters Begins thread, the story is said to center around a band of adventurers from Japan's Warring States Period. I'm betting that this band of adventurers is going to be thrust forward through time into WWII. It's the only thing that makes sense, considering the fact that the spoiler image, which I posted above, depicts what seem to be a pilot of the Imperial Japanese Airforce, a businessman, and a warrior wielding a machine gun which almost certainly didn't exist in the Warring States Period. I suppose we'll find out soon enough. Next month's YKO, due out on April 30th, will feature a Drifters cover and colored pages. I'm quite looking forward to it. 3nodding

You know, eventually, once Drifter's been running for awhile, it may be a good idea to get a sub-forum for Hirano's other works. 3nodding

Funny you should say that Suni. Sir Cathrine and I where discussing just that before I went ahead and created the sticky. I thought waiting tell this manga picked up would be a good idea as well. Should people really become interested well...some RP's, cosplay and art I am sure will follow. Suni moon You know, eventually, once Drifter's been running for awhile, it may be a good idea to get a sub-forum for Hirano's other works. 3nodding Now I am not very familiar with this new manga but from the illustration I am rather interested in the character with the brief case. With no weapon in sight I am rather curious to see how he fits into the group. I would like to think the man is an expert tactician and he actually attends the missions. An Intelligent character who can overwhelm his enemies with little physical effort is always interests me.

Blak_Rabbit and if the archery person is a chick or a dude? xd The archer's features are obscured, so it's difficult to say. However, he/she bears a strong resemblance to Integra, so I'm leaning toward "she". 3nodding

The archer is definitely a "she".
Although feminine males aren't too odd a sight in anime and manga, they really don't fit in with Hirano's style.
Masculine females? Yes. Feminine males? No.
(Save for Shrodinger, but Schro's a kid for crying out loud.... Although I will say, in the final chapters Alucard just kept getting prettier and prettier, so who knows.... D; )
Although "Warring States Period" are generally three words that make me back away slowly from a manga, I'm actually getting rather hyped up over this.
>.<
Of course, the premise of time travel is what's helping that.
(Normally my reaction would be "Omg, it actually takes place in japan? F*ck. Dx")

I am going with she. There are far more females in anime and manga using bow like weapons then men.

Subject change: I think mystery man is the time machine agent who gives them missions and is heading for the big a** mansion in the upper left since he has what appears to be a map too

Masculine females? Yes. Feminine males? No. Indeed. That's one reason I love Hirano's style. It's so different than most mangakas' styles, and yet so traditional. 3nodding Suni moon Although "Warring States Period" are generally three words that make me back away slowly from a manga, I'm actually getting rather hyped up over this.

If he were so important to the storyline, I think he'd have a more prominent place. As it is, he's just one guy in the crowd. Besides, if you look at the "mansion" in the upper left, you'll notice that it's leaning toward the left. That makes me think that it's just a collapsing building. Also, that "map" looks more like a newspaper.

you're right, it does look like a newspaper. sweatdrop I wanna know more about the pilot's character, he seems interesting. Any one person do you find most interesting than the others based on what we see here?

Any one person do you find most interesting than the others based on what we see here? I think all the characters look interesting, but the one that intrigues me the most is the man with the machine gun in the upper right corner, probably because he looks like Alucard, but I'm also betting the businessman is going to be badass. 3nodding

It's a fact, normally I don't like a good chunk of anime/manga that actually takes place in japan. Especially japan in any other century then our own. sweatdrop
Honestly though, I don't think anything Hirano will do with this manga could be bad. 'Sides, reading Hellsing I got used to the fact that he'll do whatever the hell he wants, and somehow manage to have it make sense.Blak_Rabbit you're right, it does look like a newspaper. sweatdrop I wanna know more about the pilot's character, he seems interesting. Any one person do you find most interesting than the others based on what we see here? I'm unable to make any assumptions at this point, nor lead towards any characters... I may not even be able to do so after the first chapter, it'll still be so soon.
What I'm most interesting in, however, is what these characters will be like.
So far, everyone in Hellsing was re-formed from Hirano's old work. He just breathed some new life in them, and gave them a touch up. They were all amazing, but they'd all been hanging around for some time before the series was serialized and before it was finished. Although these guys have probably been in his head for quite some time aswell, the rest of the world has only just gotten a peak at them:
I'm curious to see what he'll do with this new cast of characters. I'm very interested in seeing if they'll be totally new, or still bare a resemblance to some of the characters in his older work.

'Sides, reading Hellsing I got used to the fact that he'll do whatever the hell he wants, and somehow manage to have it make sense.I'm not a particularly big fan of mangas and animes that take place in Japan, but I'm quite used to them. At least Hirano chose to set Drifters during the Warring States Period, which, as far as I'm concerned, is one of the most interesting periods in Japan's history. However, if the storyline does indeed involve time traveling, there's no guarantee that it will remain in the Warring States Period, or in Japan, for that matter. Hellsing was very Western for a manga, and I liked that. Drifters will be a change of pace, but I'm sure I'll like that, as well. 3nodding
