The sun was pleasant.
And as she lay stretched out on her belly on the grass she felt herself in that state between being away and being asleep. Dozing, perhaps. The pages of the open book in front of her nose wwere bright - reflecting the sun - but she could read well enough.
At the moment she lay, head propped in the palm of a hand, ears flopped across her face. Her eyes held the look of someone who was rather content with the world right now. Nothing bothered her for long. She was quick to bounce back, even after the toughest of days. And that morning had been rather difficult. She'd brought her students with her today - two of them - and they'd seen fit to run amock. The fine weaher had distracted their attention for studying and eventually she had to admit defeat and free them. She'd stood in the doorway of the musuem watching as they tore away, whooping and clambering over one another to escape into the gardens and beyond. She knew that their parents would probably go berserk and yell at her for not keeping a safe eye on them. But what was she supposed to do? It wasn't exactly her fault that they let their children run wild! She couldn't correct the bad habits that they'd been brought up with in a few lessons.
Either way, it was over and done with now. An afternoon of quiet reading was just what she needed.
Her eyes drooped and closed.
Perhaps it would be an afternoon of sleeping, instead.
She shook her head to dispel the sleepiness and forced herself to focus. She'd read this paragraph three times already and she still had no idea what it was saying! Actually...she didn't remember much of this chapter at all.
She flicked back a few pages, scanned them for familiarity and gave a groan. No. She'd clearly glazed these pages without absorbing anything. Dammit! This wasn't like her at all! She studied and studied hard. Maybe that was the problem. Maybe she'd just burned herself out.
She gave another groan and let herself sink to the floor, pressing her face between the pages of the damn book she just couldn't get to grips with.
Mmm, the smell of paper was good.

To do or not to do. To do or not to do.
Well, honestly, taking into account it was a random week day NOT Friday, it meant that very little was going to be accomplished, as far as actual work went. Thus so, the meek koshka had ventured (actually, he'd snuck, but that was beside the point) out of the storage rooms in order to find someone. Now, he wasn't particularly used to seeking someone out; he'd never really had to as Ragnarok was usually simply THERE and there hadn't been anyone he'd been especially interested in finding.
So thus, the whole 'finding someone' was setting forth a problem he'd never encountered before; how the hell was he supposed to accomplish the task when he'd never done it before? Where did people usually GO anyhow? And what were the chances that she would even be within the museum? She had a job to do after all (and she hadn't looked like the type to procrastinate it either). After walking around the museum like a lost puppy (pun aside) for a whole two hours, he'd been about ready to give up on the search. However, when he'd stopped to let out a mildly frustrated sigh, he'd seen something vaguely familiar out of the corner of an eye through the window.
There she was. Outside.
OF COURSE she'd be outside; the sun was shinning, and Kanus usually did like to sunbathe, didn't they? Then again, so did the Koshka... but that was also beside the point. Why hadn't he thought of that before? With a purpose in mind, he'd rushed (...well, as much as he could without dragging attention from others onto himself) outside to greet her.
When he'd reached her though, the girl had her face against a book that she'd set on the ground. He could not really understand what she wished to accomplish with that, but he he drew closer and stood over her, as if trying to figure it out silently. Then he crouched down and blinked, "I...don't think you can read like that."

She was almost asleep, teetering on the edge, hesitantly wondering whether she should step into the dream world or keep herself in reality. The thought of study and hurting her brain, however, was slowly edging her towards the verge of that cliff. And there she was, peeking down int the oblivion of sleep. Yes. She'd nap. Naps were good.
She took a step into the much needed oblivion, intending to let sleep take her. Lean forward just a little bit and...
"I...don't think you can read like that."
She jolted back from the edge and was thrown hard into reality. Her head snapped up to find out who had stolen her away from sweet, sweet sleep. The sound of tearing startled her further. Tearing. Pages. Precious books being ruined! And then she realised who the culprit was.
A page had stuck to her face and torn as she'd moved away. Now, it hung like some odd decoration from her cheek. She blinked, lifted her eyes and saw the pink-haired one. Chrona! She gave him a smile and lifted one hand to wave. The same hand then sleepily groped for the page hanging form her face and pulled it free.
"Oh no." She pressed it back into place, smoothing out the wrinkles and giving a small whimper of dismay. "I ruined it!" And it had been so expensive, too! She set the page in place as best she could and then gently closed the book, pinning the page so it couldn't be lost to a sneaky breeze.
And then she remembered she wasn't alone and peered up into the sunshine, using the book to shield her eyes from the rays. "I wasn't reading." She replied then. "I was...nevermind. You looking for a place to nap, too, huh?"

He found himself jerking away instinctively as soon as she snapped her head up, falling back on his bum, "I'm sorry! I'm sorry!!" he squeaked as she looked at him; his first reaction was always to apologise, and while logic was telling him that he hadn't hurt her (he hadn't touched her!), his mind was suddenly running in a frenzy, afraid that he had somehow caused her pain.
The loud riiiiiip that followed made him wince somewhat, his ears falling back against the sides of his head, even lower than they usually were, "I'm sorry!" he squeaked again, "I'm really, really sorry! I... I-I didn't mean.... to...." well, he wasn't sure WHAT he'd done to begin with, so he just looked at her lamely and pitifully. That's when he took notice that there was a page stuck to her face and he was caught, for the very first time in... a VERY long while, between twitching a smile and being vaguely mortified that he thought the situation amusing, "Uhm..." he lifted a hand towards her but left it hovering between them, afraid to reach out, but still twitching, as if to make a show that he DID want to reach forth, "There's... uhm..."
He should not be finding this vaguely amusing.
But it was clear he was fighting between looking horribly guilty and vaguely amused. At least, till she spoke again and worried over the book she'd ruined. Ohnoohnohonooooohnooooo she was going to get mad! Or something! And the 'something' was possibly going to be worse than her getting mad!
All hint of mirth suddenly vanished and he winced again, but when no hit or yells came his way, he risked looking back at her, "Uhhhh... I can... I can fix that," he told her, barely above a whisper, but he honestly wouldn't blame her if she didn't let him try! Mrrrrffdsddsgrtdgt he was such an idiot. Logic was again telling him that... sleeping with your face in a book wasn't meant to be very comfortable, and it was clear he was thinking that, but he decided to not voice this notion. Instead he fidgeted in place, "Well, uhm, not really... I was just looking for you."

What was he apologising for?! It wasn't as if something terrible had happened. She hadn't been really asleep and it was only one page ruined. She opened her mouth to tell him not to be sorry and that it was really okay when she registered his amusement at the blasted page for getting stuck on her face.
She imagined what she must have looked like. Strewn out on the floor, face pressed against the book. And then lifting her head to have a page hanging from her face. She smiled too and the smile grew until she was laughing. Oh dear, she was such an idiot sometimes!
The laughter gave way a little as he spoke again and she cracked open both eyes to look at him. "Fix it? Fix it how?" She was on her feet now, holding the book to her chest. Then she continued. "Well, you found me. What can I do for you? That Xeric isn't giving you anymore trouble is he?" Instantly she became suspicious. "Because if he is..." She paused.
If he is...then what?
She shrugged. "Here, take a look at it." She held the book out to him.
