You've got the boutonniere, the prom dress, and your hair's made up, too. Your date's downstairs with the rented limo, and you're nearly finished with your hair. Everything's just glowing, and in a few minutes you'll be making your way to the biggest night of your teen-aged life.
This being the case, you're sure to want to try and keep everything fantastic. If you're smart, you'd have anticipated possible road blocks towards this end. But most of the time, first-time prom-goers don't really anticipate these things, despite repeated warnings and premonitions by their elders. So they do end up doing stupid things. It's a given.
With that in mind, here's a short guide to what to expect during your one night of fantasy.
Fly me to the Moon
There's always a hint of magic about attending prom - it wouldn't be such a big event, otherwise. The euphoria all the way from the preparation is just the beginning of this magic. So, enjoy each moment contributing to this magical ambiance.
Let your date know what you'll be wearing in advance, so that he can match your dress with his own palette. And no matter what happens, don't ever consider buying the boutonniere and corsage at the same time. That would ruin somewhat the anticipation of having to present the flowers to each other.
For that matter, anticipate other ceremonial memories from prom. Don't skip out on the dance because your heels are making your feet ache. Only wear stylish shoes that are also comfortable. Your feet will thank you for that!
Get Real
Proms receive a lot of notoriety for being called the "night of magic." Of course, the proms are made from "magic" about as much as hotdogs are made from "dogs." In coming to terms with all the expectations and preparations, you begin to realize that it is in the ambiance or the social aura for the occasion. You also realize it is just another fancy gala, where the main event happens not during the progress of the ball, but in what happens between the people--the couples. Getting dressed is just an excuse to bask in the magical moment; break out of the monotony of your everyday life and everyday affairs; and, to appreciate each other for what you both contribute to that all important relationship!
Of course there's still magic in the air. But it doesn't have anything to do with the prom itself - you and your dates make the magic happen. So remember: the prom doesn't make itself memorable. That's something you and your date, together, will have to work on by yourselves.

Prom Sex
AS the dancing and conviviality of the prom is winding down, you and your date are quickly starting to reeve it up. Perhaps, you'll fare better than the couple who had a bit too much alcohol to drink. Before long, she had hitched up her gown and they started getting down.
Sex after prom night has been known to happen. Some people would even say that they feel that it's expected. The worst part is when one or the other - or both of you - have no idea of what you're doing, or how things spiraled out-of-control. That's when mistakes happen, and the real trouble starts.
Safer Way to Go
If you choose to keep on going, you'll have to bear in mind that for that single moment of liberation, so to speak, you could end up paying for the rest of your life. If you plan on being sexually active, be prepared: bring protection. Keep in mind that if he ends up hurting you in any way, you could always tell him to stop.
There will be always be instances where it's important to note that you are only one side of the equation and that your date probably won't cooperate and agree to your demands. When these things happen, it's best to formulate an exit strategy, well in advance. Sometimes, drastic actions are called for, like using pepper spray or running away to safety. And, if you need to exercise your option to say, "No"; remember to be firm. Sometimes the situation calls for more than a big, fat, "No!" You can always call for help if you don't feel safe. Trust your instincts.
Saying
The rule of thumb whenever you're about to do something that's bordering on stupid or dangerous is that you back off. While you might not consider prom night sex really what you'd qualify as dangerous, it can rank somewhere up there in the stupid category. You might want to rethink your situation after the first few kisses, and demand to be taken home. Try to give yourself breathing room and keep your options open, so that you will feel most comfortable with the choices that you exercise in a given situation.
More likely than not, your date will stop after you utter your first imperative, a firm, "No!" Every once in a while, though, there'll be this guy who feels all macho, who'll try to goad you into "going along with the program," in agreeing to have sexual relations. Stand your ground, though. Also, it can happen the opposite way, too. Don't let the person -- whether it's a guy or girl -- pressure you to where you feel you have to give in.

Types of Prom Dresses for Different Bodies
Which Body Type Are You?
Big-busted and small-busted girls are in luck, as are girls with big or small shoulders. Apple and pear-shaped girls can find relief, too. This also applies to full-figured, athletic, and hourglass shapes. Finding the perfect prom dress does not have to be a struggle if you know how to work with your body. Therefore, embrace your body and learn how to make it look good. We are all different and different shapes suit our bodies. There is a lot you can do to make yourself look beautiful and feel confident in your evening dress. Follow these tips when you go out shopping for prom dresses and you will be pleasantly surprised.
Bust and Shoulders
If you are large busted, which means that you wear a C cup or larger, ball gowns and A-line gowns would work well for you. Further, you need to make sure you have enough support—after all, you will be dancing the night away. Choose a dress with a corset bodice with straps for security. If cleavage is not your thing, full coverage V-necks and halter gowns would work for you. On the other hand, if you wear an A cup or smaller, you are small busted. In this case, empire, ball gown, and A-line shapes work for you. Detailed and adorned bodices would make your chest look larger. Therefore, go for beading, embroidery, and ruffles up top. Further, if you have broad shoulders, go for dresses that reveal them. Halter and strapless prom dresses would work well. Girls with small shoulders look good in dresses with cap sleeves.
Full Figured, Hourglass, Athletic
Full-figured girls with curves should opt for A-line and empire dresses or ball gowns. The dress should not stick to all their curves, but hide their bottoms and problem areas. They also need to make sure, however, that the prom dress is not very bulky and does not make them look larger than they are. Girls with hourglass figures, on the other hand, do well in sheaths, A-lines, and ball gowns. A body-hugging sheath dress will help show off their curves. Athletic girls, however, need to create curves and softness with an empire or ball gown.
Pear or Apple Shapes
The prom dresses that work for girls with apple-shaped bodies are empire and A-line dresses. The high waist of the empire gown makes the body look longer. Emphasis is taken away from the mid-section. An A-line gown with boning also works well for apple shapes by making the waist look smaller. Girls with pear-shaped bodies do well in A-line, empire, and ball gowns. These girls have heavy bottoms and need to emphasize the top half of their bodies with their prom dresses. A dress with a nice bodice that flows loosely over the body works well. Strapless evening dresses and gowns work well, too.
Now that you know what can work for your body, you can shop for prom dresses. It is exciting. Remember that the fun does not stop with the dress. You also need to consider your hairstyle (will go for the classic prom up-do or not?), as well as your prom accessories and most of all, your prom date.
