Sunny.

It was sunny when she woke, the light streaming through the small patch of trees that surrounded her. The birds were awake and a-twitter with excitement for the new day, singing and calling and fluttering hither and tither across the open sky. She could just barely make out the soft scratchings of rodents in the dirt, and briefly, she wondered if any mions had found her small nook of shiny rocks. However, she doubted they would venture so close to they water, and if they did, she had set up sticks and lichen to hide the small alcove well enough.

She yawned, shaking out her mane and standing, careful not to knock her horn against a low branch, and peered out of the thicket she had slept in. It was early morning, and a soft cloak of mist still hung over the delta, making everything look slightly fuzzy. It was a clean mist, one that was easy to navigate through and see more than four feet ahead of your nose. Later in the season, it would begin to get more and more foggy, and she would have to become careful, as always, to mind her hooves. Stepping from the thicket, she arched her neck to gently lick her scales, trying as best as she could to clean off the dirt from sleep, and then quickly made her way out into the delta. She knew that other herla would be awake at this hour, though how many, she could not be sure.

With an eager little skitter-step, she decided to search for another piece of rhodonite before heading further out into the water. It was cold against her ankles as she swung her head low, searching for the pink colored stone. She already had a piece, but now, she was looking for something larger. She found the color and the stone itself to be utterly breathtaking, with veins of black sparking through it. Not to mention, it meshed nicely with the carnelian and the peridot in her collection. Frowning, she found none, and instead made a quick check on her collection before turning her head towards the inner delta, flicking her ears and sniffing experimentally. She couldn't smell any other herla, but the wind was rather lifeless that day, and perhaps it just wasn't carrying.

Oh, she would so have liked some company.
Searching for stones was no fun alone.

The concealing mist was something he loved. With hooves and paws silently treading the damp ground, he could move like a ghost, unscented and unseen. Of course, that also meant that others could do the same, but the tall buck wasn’t too concerned. Trained by necessity, his eyes, nose, and ears were in constant motion to detect the slightest hint of nearby life. There was little enough of it this early in the morning, but he wouldn’t be caught unawares on the off-chance that someone crossed his path.

The scent of delectable aquatic plants was barely noticeable in the warm, windless air, but it was enough to make Shayann enter the cool water. He took slow, deliberate steps, testing the silted floor for sinkholes and watching for reptilian predators, until the water lapped gently against his chest and belly. It was there that he found the plants with thick, succulent leaves and indulged himself.

Later, finished with his meal, the buck waded parallel to the shore he’d come from, long tail swishing through the water behind him like a fish’s fin. He had no specific destination in mind, but he changed his course when he noticed some faint ripples that seemed to be coming from closer to land. He was cautious until he got close enough to see the silhouette of a clearly smaller Herla in the mist. So as not to surprise or frighten the doe, he splashed lightly with his tail and called out a greeting to warn her of his approach.
