Bill is forced to "cheat" on Sookie with Lorena, his maker. Lorena can summon him at any time, even against Bill's will.

Sookie sees this as cheating, yes? Yes she rubs her butt all over Sam during the course of her dating Bill. Sure, Sam instigated it and she always stops after a make-out session, but tha fact that this little fact is excluded while she chastises Bill confounds me.

maybe I'm missing something. Feel free to rebuke me,

No, that always bothered me too. I mean, he didn't really have a choice.

But, Bill was her first boyfriend, her first love, her first everything pretty much, so I can understand why it hurt her so much. Even though, rationally, there is no reason why she should be hurt, she still is. Its just the way emotions work for girls. Even though we know, rationally, that we shouldn't feel a certain way, we can't help but feel it.

Plus so much happened after they got back to Louisiana that they really never had a chance to make up or even talk about it. Then something happens in book 6 but I'm not going to go into that without knowing that you've read it.

☃☃☃ iRead it. I'm waiting for book nine.

And yes, I know about that, and Selah. But still, it doesn't excuse Sookie from being a hypocrite.

No, it doesn't. But I think that's the point. Sookie has flaws just like any real woman would. That's what makes her more believable, easier for women to relate to. Because if she had done all of the right things then there would have been no drama.

I think the thing that really pisses her off, after she learns about him being summoned, isn't that he HAD to go to her, its that he chooses to actually leave her, shack back up with Lorena, and set up money for her for the rest of her natural life. Here is Bill, apparently loaded, seeing all the money he's throwing at the Bellefleurs, and it is obvious that Sookie is in the lacking department. Now, he wants to throw some money at her to make up for what? The time she spent with him? That'd make me feel whorish.

Now, I'm not condoning Sookie's indiscretions with Sam when ever they end up in close situations (and yes, Sam is always making it clear that, now Sookie has a boyfriend, I'd sure like to date her), but boys have NEVER really shown any interests in her. I'm sure was having it hard figuring out her own swirling mix of feelings.

1st point, she's often too proud to admit she needs financial help. Like when Bill bought the strip mall.

2nd point, not true; she had J.B. and a few other dates.

I agree that Sookie is too proud to ask for any kind of help, be it financial or any other kind of help, but at the same time, anyone knowing anything about how she lives would have to be completely blind to think that she can pay all her bills and have any left over by working at a bar. I think she explains to Bill quite well about what she thought about popping over to his strip mall to charge things on his account, though I think the occasional gift or unasked for repair she wouldn't mind.

Well, she's had a few dates, but not an actual boyfriend. Seeing someone in a causal setting and actually being intimate with them in some form of long-term (even if its only months) is totally different.

Also, this could just be a male/female view difference. We do tend to view and react very differently to situations.

Most of her house repairs were because of someone else's fault when they either broke something, murdered something, or burned something. (Though Eric did give her a gift, but it wasn't romantic) And Sookie could have explained the Bellfleur problem at any time. Really.

J.B. wanted her, and she wanted him, though only for his mind and body. If she wanted, she could have him.

And I guess that's true, differentiating views.

Maybe I wasn't very articulate in what I meant when I said

I didnt' mean having someone interested in you and you being interested in them in a purely physical way. When I used the term "intimate", I meant marked by close acquaintance, association, or familiarity. Not in a strictly physical way.

I feel as if we're talking apples and oranges here on this topic.

Yes, while Sookie is dating Bill, Sam tries to lay the moves on her. The first time, she isn't really even seeing Bill (the night Sam takes her to hear Bill speak at the the Daughters of The Glorious Dead meeting). There are a few times through out the rest of book one and very little in book two where she does much else with Sam. There are quite a few moments of them standing too close or her being VERY aware of Sam, blah blah blah, but really, until she learns that Bill is actually planning on (or was until he disappears) leaving her (and that doesn't not mean being summoned to Jacksonville, but after getting there deciding to stay there) that Sookie even being to entertain the thought of actually doing anything with another man.

Bill is forced to "cheat" on Sookie with Lorena, his maker. Lorena can summon him at any time, even against Bill's will.

I don't think Bill was forced to actually "cheat" on Sookie with Lorena. He was summonsed to Jacksonville. Bill couldn't ignore the call to go there, but I don't think that means he has to just go jumping in the sack with her. He probably had some weird maker/mother love thing for her and seeing her again probably reawakened those feelings. He also lied to Sookie about the origins of the summons. For me, this initial lie tells me all I really need to know. He didn't even care enough about her in the first place to tell her the truth and it took Pam (I love her) to let Sookie know her place in his life.

This may also be the difference between views of someone under the age of 20 and someone over the age of 30 razz
