I have a double-story Ferret Nation model 142 and without a doubt, it's the best cage for rats I have ever owned. Now, every few days or so is cleaning days for the boys and I really enjoy setting things up - every time the cage is done a little differently, so I thought it would be nice to set up a thread showcasing how it looks every week.

Plus, I really wanted a place to be able to blabber about my little squishies without being a pest in unrelated threads. I can update news here regarding pets and such - including sharing images of the other animals! I know a lot of you were harassing me for pictures of Lucian, so pbbbt! I will eventually have this site complete with profiles for each animal.

While I don't go for color schemes and themes like some do (too expensive), I try to get creative with what I've got to work with. Oh, I suppose I should also introduce the rats!

Ace the Dumbo: [x]
Faustus the Hairless: [x] [x]
Buntu the Siamese: [x]

Rainbow Bridge Travelers:

Troy (Malignant Cancer): [x] [x]
Cid (Stroke): [x]
Vicky (Stroke): [x]
Vanessa (Malignant Cancer) [x]
Dominik the Dumbo: [x]
Boris the Blue: [x]

You may notice that Boris wasn't in the cage with the rest of the boys - that's 'cause he was not only unusually unsocial and territorially aggressive towards other rats, but also an idiopathic epileptic who had grand mal seizures the phenobarbital didn't always control. He couldn't be with other rats or in a cage where he could fall from heights! His brother, Cid, also had some serious issues (incredibly high strung) and I'm pretty sure their genetics in general were very poor - unfortunately, we have no breeders in our area for hundreds of miles.

Boris passed away due to a cancerous tumor in his chest. You can read about it in the journals here.

Metheus the Dumbo: [x]

I've come a long way in regards to making my rats happy. When I first had the cage: [x] [x] [x]

Oh wow, how lovely.
I'm sure your boys love their cage space.
And this is just another example of how diverse ratties can be! Just as much as humans!

Oh, goodness yes. I can't understand people who think that rats (or any animal for that matter) are the same as all the rest of their kin. All of our rats are individuals with their own facial / body features, temperaments, quirks, the lot.

Buntu is somewhat unsocial and likes to eat weird things. He's kinda an unpredictable a**.
Ace acts like he's dying when someone tries to groom him and absolutely despises cats. If he has a treat of some kind, he'll scream if anyone gets too close.
Metheus is a lazy, but stubborn old goat who won't back down from his position as alpha - Dominik, who's highly social, active, and perky, wants it.
Faustus is very keen on grooming and nest making, and is somewhat shy. He's almost like some sort of butler!

Boris also has a habit of redecorating his cage - he moves EVERYTHING.

Yes, my first rat was a sweet treat hunter. She would track down and wrestle any sort of chocolate away from ANYONE she knew or not. She liked pepsi, but not coke. She also had a habbit of cleaning peoples hair, she would sit around and groom everyone

Ferret Nations are awesome cages! I have one for my Ferrets, and I adore it. =]
I am getting a Critter Nation for my Rats soon though. ^^
