This section is for out of character (ooc) commentary on the events of the Guild roleplay or aspects of background information. This is also a good place for asking questions pertaining to character and technology ideas.

I'm in the process of building new designs/editing old designs. I'll post my stuff when I'm finished.

Considering both of my intended factions are essentially pirates, don't feel bad about starting without me.

I've been thinking that we all seem to have pretty rich backstories for our characters and nations, but don't have too much time for filling out all that information beforehand. So it might be a good idea to just start the roleplay and continue to fill in background info. as we go. That will make it more difficult to play somebody else's faction so we may want to avoid that at the beginning, but otherwise I don't see any problems with starting now. We will just have to accept each faction's creator as the ultimate authority for the faction, with the assumption that any information provided in answer to our queries will be posted in Background Info. in a timely manner.

I'm going to go ahead and start a Thread for the Hall of Co-Aligned Independent Planets and the Mirai and Konigserker systems. I think that other people should go ahead and start their own threads as necessary.

I'm relaunching the D'jin. I'm not happy with their limited playability.

I'm thinking that they might be the "Old kids on the block" and try to keep the peace like an international police force.

Okay, I think that it's important that we try to avoid the "super races" we ran into in the past Guild.

I looked at what you wrote, DA, and it looks good. It would be nice if you could post some entries for the timeline so I can add that and we can put some Djin history in the context of the rest of the roleplay. I also think that there should be some interaction between the Mirai/Orai Stargate network and the Djin embassies. If nothing else, perhaps the Mirai were shielded from the Dread by Thoth and thus never encountered the Djin or needed their protection. The Orai grew out of the Mirai and thus were also separated. Then in more recent history, with the spread of the gate network, the Djin encountered the Mirai and Orai. I think that both would resist having embassies on their capital planets, but would be willing to have a single emissary (plus the implied support staff) residing in the capital palace.

That could work. Essentially, I'm just winding back the clock to being a failing empire versus a fallen one.

Your timeline looks good. My only issue is that the Konigserker Republic was actually only made capable of interplanetary travel by the Stargate. I will make that clearer in the timeline.

The roleplay is starting. I've made a post for the Konigserker in the Panacea Nostrum thread. Anyone can reply by having a diplomat ask to see the Konigserker at the Hall or by introducing their own characters and plot lines. Try to include as many other factions as you can and feel free to create any new threads as needed according to the guidelines in the Format thread.

DA, I reviewed your post in Djin technologies and have a question about the Altair-class. I added my question to the post so you can just look over it at your leisure.

So I've got this idea that the Konigserkers have a fairly elaborate espionage operation running through the Foreign Engagements Command (overtly a diplomatic office). I imagine that they have operatives on many Hall planets and also planets that have Stargates but are not part of the Hall. They mostly gather intelligence, but also with mandates to acquire advanced technology and occasionally go on contracted assassination and intimidation operations in exchange for political favors, technology, and so forth.

Obviously, they would have trouble infiltrating the more advanced nations and the isolationist nations so they probably do not have operatives among the Djin, the Mirai, and other nations like them. But they are definitely trying. And I'm sure that there are nations taking measures to stop the Konigserker espionage and even try to infiltrate the Konigserker operation. I'm hoping that all of this can provide for some potential storylines to explore.

In light of my previous attempts to start the Guild being more long term, I've introduced a new aspect that will hopefully get the roleplay going.

Cirim Valos is a Mirai dissident and terrorist. He is set on the dissolution of the IPU and the Hall of Co-Aligned Planets, which he intends to accomplish by attacking everyone involved in unification or cooperation.

My hope is that the attack on the Panacea Nostrum Stargate will be open ended enough to bring in any interested. Several nations will undoubtedly want to investigate the explosion and each other. There is also the issue of the security breach following the explosion. That provides an opening both in the opportunity to investigate who evaded security and to being one of those individuals (or teams).

Because Cirim is Mirai, he has a lot of advanced technology available and the means to develop new technology on the fly. But Cirim is alone and without support. He will be looking for temporary allies or people he can use to further his goals (another possible opening).

My expectation is that this character will fall from prominence as the roleplay gets underway, at which time the other ideas will factor in, but for now there is the opportunity to introduce people and races as you like.

Sorry for disappearing for a forever-and-a-half. October through November were insanely busy for me.

Not a problem. No one's posted anything in that time. I was hoping some other people would take the opportunity to start, too.

I am new to this, but apparently you do not want to have "super races" like you did in the last one.

So, the races you have now are not considered super? The sea of red defense satellites, for example, sounds pretty impressive to me. If that is normal, then what would super be like?

I guess I would just like to know my limits when it comes to designing a civilization. Is it ok to have an empire of 10-20 star systems? What about 100-200? What about ships- does the average ship hold 1000 crewmembers, or a million? What about fleets- should my faction start with ten ships, ten thousand ships, or ten million ships?

Or does this revolve more around interactions between individuals than between civilizations?
