Thoth

The Mirai were originally humans who colonized the primary planet, Sanguinos, from space. The Energy Being Thoth discovered them and took them under his protection. For the most part, Thoth simply isolated the Mirai, but he has also given them the knowledge to access Energy Space using their inherent power in a manner similar to the means by which Energy Beings manipulate space. While this could be dangerous, Thoth has kept the Mirai unaware of Energy Space and maintains minimal contact with the Mirai. In fact, his only regular contact is through the Lord Mirai. As a nation, the Mirai direct their energy towards the Lord Mirai, who can wield this power directly from the imperial palace of Arminas. Thoth has woven himself into Mirai myth and lore as a wise and powerful ancient. At the moment of the Lord Mirai's death, Thoth appears to offer immortality and supreme knowledge. Once accepted (as Mirai tradition dictates), Thoth absorbs the Lord Mirai's essence into himself, adding to Thoth's power all the energy that Lord Mirai accrued.

Thoth's policy is for general non-intervention, letting the Mirai discovery things for themselves. Mirai culture then pushes for individual self-improvement, emphasizing the maximum increase of power. By instituting the system he did, Thoth gains massive amounts of energy from each generation of Mirai without direct interaction or slowly sapping power.

The Unified Empire of the Mirai

Colloquially called the Unified Empire, or simply the Mirai, its formal name is the Unified Empire of the Mirai in reference to a time when the Mirai Star System was home to several dozen warring nations. Now, the Mirai are all part of a single militant government. There are basically three divisions within the Mirai, which can be distinguished by the manner in which they wield Featur. They are the Budoka, the Moriath, and the Mirai. Every Citizen Imperial of the Unified Empire belongs to one of these divisions. The Mirai possess some picocytes and limited ability with Suthule. If they are proficient with Suthule and Featur without picocytes, then they are Moriath. The Budoka are also proficient with Featur, but solely through picocytes, having lost their Suthule in the process which made them Budoka.

Imperial Law designates three classes of citizen. Citizens Imperial are full citizens of the Empire and thus possess all the rights, privileges, and freedoms that entails, as well as the duty to the Empire that requires some form of service. Citizens Auxiliary are those citizens who were not born into the Empire and who at one time were Citizens Subject. They have pretty much the same status as Citizens Imperial, but are considered to be slightly lower class citizens and have to go through different procedural offices than Citizens Imperial. The lowest class is Citizens Subject and denotes citizens whose loyalty has not yet been proven, such as the members of a newly conquered world. Citizens Subject are considered to have no rights, privileges, or freedoms, but those granted by the grace of the Lord Mirai. Until such time as they complete the process to become Citizens Auxiliary, they are generally treated with suspicion, but so long as they obey the laws imposed upon them, lead a fairly un-interfered life not very different from before they became Citizens Subject.

Rank Hierarchy

Mirai and Moriath: The Mirai and the Moriath share a rank heirarchy, though typically lone Moriath are attached to other units or a group of Moriath combine to form an elite unit.

Budoka: The Budoka are divided into sixteen clans of equal standing whose members are ranked by combat prowess.

Featur, Suthule, and Picocytes

When Thoth granted powers to the Mirai rather than feed them his own power, Thoth showed the Mirai how to use their inherent Life Force to access Energy Space and wield its energy, though the Mirai are not aware of Energy Space as a dimension. The Mirai call the energy of Energy Space, Featur, and their inherent Life Force energy, Suthule.

Suthule is used to access and manipulate the energies of Featur to achieve various effects. Alternatively, picocytes are also able to manipulate Featur in the same way as Suthule.

The Mirai
The Mirai are the oldest and largest division of the Empire, distinguished primarily by their low Suthule and lack of blood-borne picocytes.

The Moriath
The Moriath are the traditional users of Featur in the Empire, possessing strong Suthule as a result of selective breeding and technological enhancements to ensure their Suthule transfers to offspring.

The Budoka
Within the Empire there exists an elite society whose members are known as Budoka. Imperial Law contains exceptions that allow one Budoka to kill another of equal or greater rank without answering to the government, though he may have to face the punishment of his peers. It is considered a great honor among Mirai and Moriath alike to be given the opportunity to become Budoka even though only one in twenty will survive training to see combat.

Budoka devote themselves wholly to the ways of War. Their weapon is the Andamacil, and while trained in the use of others, they wield only this or nothing. Budoka serve the citizens of the Empire, but do not serve the Lord Mirai. As such, they participate in every military action and, should it prove necessary, they will be the ones to kill the Lord Mirai when he should fail the Empire.

Budoka are distinguished by the coloration of their armor, a unique digital pattern of reds, blues, and greens and by their blood, which contains high quantities of picocytes. These picocytes are infused in an initiation ceremony that burns away any Suthule once possessed, removing any previous distinction between Moriath and Mirai.

The Imperial Intelligence Division
Imperial Intelligence is a separate command hierarchy within the Imperial military that operates throughout the ordinary command, but additionally conducts its own operations. Most members of Imperial Intelligence are such in secret, simply feeding the information they gather up hidden channels to Intelligence while carrying out normal duties. There are a few exclusively Intelligence operatives, though, who perform a variety of special and intelligence operations including espionage and counterespionage.

The Truthseers
While the Budoka made Dimer one of their own, no clan was willing to accept him. Thus at odds with the majority Budoka, Dimer received permission from their highest ranks to found his own clan. Dimer immediately began to seek out members, initiating them using a variation of the procedure he used on himself, one that does not immediately convert the subject's entire body to picocytes. Dimer calls this clan the Truthseers and they are known for being unconventional, uncompromising, and fixed on their own goals. The Truthseers have shown themselves to be entirely loyal to Dimer and willing to act entirely outside of the traditional chain of command. Furthermore, the Truthseers will not hesitate to use their individual or organizational influence to further their own agendas.

Engagement Coordinator Corps (Eko Corps)
Engagement Coordinators, or 'Ekos', are the strategists and tacticians of the Empire. Their purpose is to organize and coordinate Imperial maneuvers in combat. However, they are not specifically war strategists or battle planners. Instead, Ekos work at all levels of combat, from fireteam and squad level action to the positioning of capital ships or the dispatch of fleets. Consequently, in addition to those serving aboard a ship in the capacity of Eko, any individuals to have completed the Eko School and received an Eko rating are members of the Eko Corps. Ekos are not necessarily accorded any special rank or status, but are instead seen as tactical specialists, having received additional education in that field. One's Eko rating is a number from 1 to 7 corresponding to a test score bracket. Ekos first receive their rating after completing a final exam and graduating from the school. They are then required to retest at least once every two years to update their rating and keep their Eko status.

Eko ratings do not correspond to ranks and are not indicators of experience. Eko-1's, the lowest tier, are nonetheless skilled tacticians. Eko ratings are more considered proficiencies and are displayed following an individual's current rank. Most Ekos belong to one of the first three tiers, though there are some fours, primarily among the Budoka, and one five currently retired from active service and instructing at the Eko School. Currently, no Eko-6's or 7's exist. The last Eko-6 died of old age approximately fifty years ago.
