We are all different people, and we've been through different things. Surely, as we come together, we must have differnt life philosophies. Come here and tell us what is your philosophy. I'm very eager to listen.

This may sound odd, but although neither atheist or agnostic, I do not have an established religion. I am what our guildmaster calls an "omnitheist". That is to say that I definately beleive in a creator deity, accept the existance of a soul, and certain other essential concepts beleived pretty much universally. However, I (like Kefke) hold that in assigning details to these central concepts, we have allowed them to become distorted and so lost the truth of them. Kefke says it's an omnitheist's duty to understand as many different faiths and doctrines as possible so that we can better understand the "Essential Divine Truth". As for me, I just think people fight over some amazingly trivial things. I mean, "My kind and loving creator said to kick your [explitive omitted] because you got His name/gender/geneology/features wrong." Seriously?

I'm a Dzochen, a very particular branch-off of buddhism. In fact, we are called buddhist merely for lack of a better definition. We share the concepts of non-violence, unless justified, compassion and humility. Our "belief" is in karma and the circle of life, cause and effect, and also that our purpose for existence is to better ourselves, which gets us out of asking the question "why are me here?".
other than faith in reincarnation, it's hardly a religion at all. It's not faith-based, and I can't stress that enough. We don't worship a supreme being, rather we try to find the "God" within ourselves.

Not to be critical, but those seem to be merely religious philosophies. What I really want to get at are philosophies that you yourself have come up with and believe in. Although I do not mind the religious philosophy, I just want everyone to know that this is not to become a religious debate topic. Feel free to post what you believe in. Ask questions, offer insight, but please avoid arguements in here.

Personally, I believe that everything is connected. If you look for it, you can find a way to connect everything. All the arts, martial arts, visual arts, music, culinary, etc. can all be intermixed. Something that applies to one can be used to improve antother, such as sugar sculpting being based off of glass work. And all things are connected. People are bound together by invisible strings. This is not to say that soulmates or fated people are these bonds, but that every life touches another thus creating a bond. And every person has a natural ability to some degree to feel these bonds. In everything there is a connection. I could write a lengthy paper about this, but that would not be neccessary. All things are connected, can be intermixed, and can be combined to go beyond their individual limitations.

All things are defiantly connected, and it's explained on a scientific basis, because all things in the world evolved around each other, the revolve around each other. Even so I tend to believe there is a spiritual glue that holds it all together, so to speak.
I can share philosophy i have lots of it biggrin , but i need specific topic. I don't know how to philosophize on philosophy alone, if that makes sense.

I understand what you mean. I do believe that there must exist a higher power. I also believe that this power is what organizes and structures everything. However, I believe in the necessity of there being an opposiotion in all things. I have theorized myself that all matter and energy in existence has no beginning. For if there can be no end, there cannot have been a beginning. I believe in time represented by a mobius strip or a ring, not by a string.

I believe that there is no fundamental difference between science and magic. If you look for it, you can find evidence that what we call magic is simply a poorly understood scientific principle. Skeptics are simply those highly skilled and professional in their self delusion.

So Kefke, are you of the persuasion that anything/everything can or will be explained by science? Isn't it more fun to leave a little mystery in this universe? After all, we know so much yet understand so little though it.

On the contrary, I believe that science is a primarily useful, but essentially flawed, system for understanding and influencing the way our world works. I believe that the basic premise of classifying things into set unyielding rules is doomed to failure, as there are elements in our world that cannot be reliably classified in this way. "Science" should be approached as an art, not an absolute.

Ah, i must say that I find your view very refreshing after encountering many..."absolute" type of people so to speak. But, i would like to know what you find that makes you perceive it as flawed. Because to me, as science is for the most part a creation of man, who is in turn a flawed creature, his creations are also fated to be flawed. I know it to be incomplete on its own, but what do you feel is missing from it?
PostPosted: Sun Jun 21, 2009 2:59 am

It would be difficult to quantify exactly what is missing from science, particularly as by definition such things are quantifiable. As they say, "There is an exception to every rule." A bit tongue in cheek, as it is commonly understood that the rule is meant to be its own exception...which in turn means it isn't. However, the point is valid. Science relies on rules, "natural laws", to define what will and must always be. Yet there are times when the rules don't work. Which cannot be, if they are to be "rules".

One prominent example comes in the form of accounts of so called "mythical creatures". Famous these ancient accounts may be, but if one examines them logically, and with an open mind, it quickly becomes apparent that the scientific view is completely absurd. We are expected to believe that all of these creatures were purely imaginary. Yet archeologists have more than once been known to find the ruins of supposedly fictitious cities. "Extinct" animals have been known to be found alive and thriving. Most important of all, however, is the fact that in a time when mass communication was nonexistent, many of these creatures were being described by peoples that had no contact whatsoever. These tales were told worldwide...yet otherwise intelligent experts tell us that our ancestors must have all been on a collective acid trip. It's simply ridiculous!
