I personally think both have pros and cons. Some of the changed scenes in the movie helped make it more relatable to a standard audience but it also really altered the story.
What are your thoughts? 4laugh

~*~ don't get me wrong, the movie was great. i loved it. adored it. but it's seems almost blasphamis to like the movie better than the comic. the movie wouldn't have existed without it, and the comic is what i fell in love with in the first place. i love the work they did, taking such a masterpiece from one medium to another, but when it comes down to it, i feel the original is where allegiance is owed. ~ my mistress eyes are nothing like the sun

Personally, I really enjoyed the comic more. (The movie left out a lot of things that made the story good in my opinion.) But the movie was pretty good. Loved the actors they got for Nite Owl and Rorschach.

As a visual person, I can't seem to make my mind up. Loved the novel, use it as a reference, but I love the movie for all the right reasons.
They could have quite easily ******** up the movie, like they do with most hero movies. To tie in with the kiddies cereal. Watchmen was never in that category.
Terry Gilliam was going to do it, but I am glad Monty stayed away from it. Though 12 monkeys' rocks.
A movie can never compete with a book in its complexity. Something that takes a few pages to draw the readsers attention has been transferred to a second or two on film. Dans sugar is going to be brushed over.
Unlike Jackson with LOTR, there must have been big debate on what not to include in watchmen movie. Jackson could have cut LOTR down to two movies quite easily. Will never waste my life on it again.
But who knows....i watched da vinci code again last night. And that is s**t.
Dune, despite making all the film mistakes you can making such a dense novel into film, still makes it a wonderful kicking offpoint for the series.
How I wish I could be fremen....oops wrong thread.

As a book person, I liked the novel better. More in depth, character development, you know. The movie was great eye candy for the general audience who have not read the books. I cannot imagine a better Rorschach than Jackie Earle Haley, however. I was extremely happy with his performance, and most of his scenes were spot-on with the book, with a few exceptions. I really did like both. [Books are always better, though.]

i love the comic the most as theres little side stories and randoms info at the end of each chapter. ninja plus they missed rorschach jumping out the fridge in the movie and that was a moment that kind of defined his mentality to me... pirate i love watchmen mrgreen

The graphic novel, because the movie didn't show a humongous squid monster explode over new york and because Rorschach's face looked like ball-sack. wahmbulance : xp wahmbulance

I give the movie way more credit than most fans I've talked to, but I chose the graphic novel, though they both do have their merits.
The GN has, obviously, far more depth, and there is so much more behind each character. I love each and every one of the Minutemen, and they pretty much got shafted in the movie. The way The Black Freighter played out through the comic would have been impossible to accurately mimic in the movie (I know the "Ultimate Edition" has those scenes added into the movie, and I admit that I haven't seen it, but I did see The Black Freighter on its own, and I don't see how it would have fit in).
However, the movie was beautiful, just absolutely stunning visually. I loved Zach Snyder's style, and as someone who normally hates cheesy action movie cinematography, I never thought the slow-motion was jarring or inappropriate. The Minutemen "Times, They Are A-Changin'" montage was wonderful, and is one of my favorite movie scenes of all times (even though they, sadly but understandably, left out Nelly and HJ [/whine]) The cast was flawless. I, personally, adore the new ending and am glad they decided not to use the giant v****a squid. The changes in Adrian's character added a whole new level of depth to the story, and Matthew Goode's interpretation of the character vastly changed everything I thought about Ozymandias. The "Hallelujah" scene is also one of my all-time favorites, and I fully support it against endless criticism.
I feel that many of the movie's problems would be solved by a Minutemen prequel. wink

Shadow Bob19 i read the comics and i saw the movie and i like the movie better You're definitely in the minority here! Not that it's a bad thing, but it is very rare, considering I'm a big fan of the movie, and most people I've talked to (both people who have read the GN and those who haven't) really disliked the movie. What did you like about the movie, and not the GN? I really am curious.
