Life's a bitter apple...

Chapter one: Fated Love: Damasses has come in dire need of a new general to run its quickly forming 3rd division known as the Wolf Brigade, someone strong, cunning, and charismatic, so the king has decided to run a tournament of sorts. Now at first this may seem like a story of war, but know that this tale is one of love...of two lovers who have crossed paths in an odd twist of events. This is the story of Kyria and Karu.

Chapter two: The Untouchables: With a new general and bearer of the sacred blade, the Eladriel selected, unrest begins to grow along the borders of Peristal and Damasses. Lord Tiberius (King of the Elves) readies the festivities of his new general Karu, and Kyria's wedding. A mass of nobles, performers, foreign dignitaries, and diplomats have arrived for such a momentous occasion, among them being the beastile king Dragonis. Wedding preparations near its completion. No matter though, new heroes and new enemies will add they're lives upon this story.

Rules

-Okay I'm gonna keep this short and sweet. DDDS...whats DDDS you ask? Its a saying I've learned along my travels as a soldier in the US Army which mean Don't Do Dumb s**t. DDDS includes no god mod, no sexually explicit posts, keep it at least rated R, and no pissing me off!

-Well M & I are pretty much the mods of this role-play. We are accepting now, but we are very picky! You need to be very literate, descriptive, and must be on quite often...or suffer the consequences. Another thing...you have to request from one of us to begin role-playing...if you don't and just go in and post...i'll happily remove your post. *glares*.

-Everyone is required to have a battle buddy. By battle buddy I mean someone that will be able to fill for your character in the event of a long leave of absence. This helps us from being caught up by one person who doesn't post for awhile.

-No side quests unless approved by me! If approved a mod (Myself or M), must be an NPC in said side quest. I refuse to have this mainstream plot be changed horribly.

-Don't start off in some area where everyone else isn't! I'm not gonna run all the way over there to put you in the damn role-play. All questions come to me!

-All posts must be in a format that shows a picture of your character to the side. Nothing too big. Use photobucket to edit. If there are any issues with this pm me and I'll help you out...maybe.

-Okay, the characters you create are all cool and everything, but...in able to fit them in the role-play, we may have to downsize, change, or fix a few things. Don't be angry, but thats the way it goes. That said, all profile submissions come straight to me!

-Don't be dumb. What I say goes, and thats that. If any of you have an issue with what I say, then you can kiss my fat hairy butt! That goes for my mods as well dammit!

-Have fun dammit!

- Last but not least...if you wanna play, in your PM to either M or I it should be headed "Please let me join oh mighty gods of gaia!" This at least lets me know that you read the damn rules. Also send a brief bio to me, and tell me where exactly he/she/it would fit in. From there I will pick and prod at your profile.

Setting

We are on the wonderful continent of Naroahan, so anywhere within that area is pretty much available to us, but know that most of the plot occurs at Damasses...the elven capital of the world.

The din of excited chatter grew louder and louder as thousands of citizens took their seats around the Colosseum. Three quarters of the seats were taken up by commoners, while the last quarter consisted of the noble houses seated to either side of the balcony where the King sat with his generals in throne-like chairs. "The turnout is quite amazing this year." the king commented, leaning over to General Lain, seated to his right.

"Indeed, your highness, the commoners love to see the tournament. Which is more than I can say for some people." Lain replied, leaning forward and looking past the King to Kyria seated on his other side. She sat forward in her seat, her head resting in her right hand. The fingers of her left hand tapped agitatedly on the arm of the chair. She too appreciated the participation of her fellow countrymen, but the tournament organizers dragged out the opening ceremonies far too long for her liking. Suddenly, she snapped upright at Lain's words and blushed furiously.

"You know I look forward to this tournament, General Lain. But it's the fighters I want to see, not the fanfare." The king laughed, patting her hand with his own.

"Soon enough Kyria. Patience will do you good." Kyria smiled up at him. She was always astounded by his youthful appearance, and how carefree he could be. She felt honored to serve under such a king. A sudden blast from the trumpets below, and a roaring cheer from the crowd signaled that the contestants were entering. Kyria straightened up in her seat, eager to get a good look at them all.

As the blaring of the trumpets sounded throughout the stadium the warriors readied themselves to enter the arena from the waiting room. All, but one fighter rose to the occasion, he just continued sharpening his blade. There were easily around 30 warriors present and they sneered as they passed the young silver haired man who still sat there sharpening his blade. "This is it ladies...lets give them a good show!" mocked a large beast of man before stepping out into the light of the coliseum. Finally when all the warriors were out within the middle of the stadium did the man finally rise, and exit the waiting room only to stop at the doorway and stare out at the crowd. He wasn't one to really fight in public, but he needed that prize...the fabled blade in which he'd be able to cut down his enemy...Lord Ticus. He was already infamous within these parts as he heard his fellow warriors whisper, sneer, and mock him behind his back, yet he remained silent, and vigilant. He would win this tournament no matter what, and then he would go his separate way to slaughter the man whom ruined his chances at a normal life. Finally stepping from the doorway the crowd began to boo as he made his way to the center where the other warriors were. They all just moved away from him encircling him, and staring at him with stunned faces. Karu just stood there unafflicted by the curses and profanities thrown out from the crowd and his fellow warriors. Even a few of them spat at him, but still he stayed put.

There certainly seemed to be a good variety of fighters this year. There were a few familiar faces among the crowds, guys who just couldn't seem to give up. Among the new fighters, Kyria's eyes were drawn to the young man who was being mercilessly cursed. Somehow, she felt like she had seen him before. As the taunts continued, Kyria began to turn red from anger. "How rude!" Kyria exclaimed, rising to her feet and rushing to the ledge of the balcony. "That is no way to treat a warrior of the tournament." Kyria was about to shout for the crowd to silence themselves when almost at once the entire crowd went silent, looking up at the balcony. Kyria turned to see that the kings had rose and had joined her at the ledge. Blushing, Kyria turned away and retreated to her chair as the king spoke.

"I thank you all for being here today, especially our contestants." he said, motioning to the warriors. "As you know, I am looking for a new general for the 3rd division of our army. I have faith that today, one worthy contestant will walk out of here the champion. Best of luck to you all!" The crowd cheered as the king returned to his seat, and the tournament announcer stepped out onto the field.

"Contestants have been separated into one-on-one matches for the first round. Please view the board to find your match." he said motioning to a large board behind him set up in a tiered pyramid with the match list set up. There were three rounds, a semi-final, and a final match, with space for the winner's name at the peak of the pyramid.

The matches went fairly quick amongst the many fighters that fought. One by one, the weak were weeded from the strong until warriors remained. Kaze Mitsurugi had quickly excelled to the finals, and was tingling with such anticipation that he could hardly sit still. He stared nervously at the calm, collected, young man who stood there before him. He was astounded by his serene look, and careless posture. This man had won battle after battle without even getting a scratch or breaking a sweat. "No matter though...he stood no match against his skilled swordsmanship," he thought to himself trying to reassure himself that he was the one who would be the victor. He would gain his title as general and take the young vixen general Kyria as his own weather she liked it or not. He grinned at the thought. His rugged warrior appearance told the tale of many battles long fought, and was littered with scars.

Karu stood there silently, his blade not even drawn as he watched his opponent carefully studying his every move. Already the man of whom he faced was faltering slowly in his mind. He couldn't believe the stroke of luck he had encountered. Who would've thought that the man he was here to kill would be standing here in front of him in the midst of a tournament. He would quickly dispatch his foe, and leave quietly while the medical staff on hand took the attention away from him, and collect his bounty. He gave two shits about the position or the responsibility...all he wanted was to finish the job, and return to his younger brother and comrades. He almost felt sorry for the man as he slowly placed his hand upon the handle of his blade...and then within mere moments it was over...the man laid there with a deadly gash on the midst of his cross section, and Karu was knelt slightly behind him.

"Kaze Mitsurugi...you have been deemed an impure stain upon humanity..." he said loud enough at the gasping warrior whom fell to the ground behind him. "Flawless," was all Karu said as he stood himself up, and began walking slowly away from his prey. The slash was fast enough that it seemed like he hadn't even drawn his blade, and perhaps to the untrained eye one wouldn't have caught his quick precise slash. He stood there waiting for the medics to stir up the crowd into a roar of outburst so that he would be able to make his escape. Another unbelievable tale will be fathomed up, and once again Karu will be made into a monster...this was the way the world worked. No fame or glory was to be had in his line of duty. There were no tales of honor for those damned by humanity.

Kyria watched on as the matches progressed. The only one who had been impressing her was the young man with silver hair. His form and technique were nearly flawless, and he had even got the attention of the crowd, who had been against him before the tournament had even started. As the final match began, Kyria finally realized that she had moved to the edge of her seat when she suddenly heard Lain comment. "You'll fall out of the chair if you aren't careful Kyria. Although if you want to make a fool out of yourself, be my guest."

Kyria frowned at him, but did not sit back in her seat, eager to see the outcome of the finals. Kaze had frequently asked for Kyria's hand, and was always turned down, and she somehow knew that if he managed to win, he might try again, this time with the king's blessings. But she breathed a sigh of relief as he fell, which turned to a shocked gasp as Karu dealt his final blow. The entire crowd grew silent as Karu began to move away, and a moment after he stopped, they burst into cheering and applause. Kaze was whisked off by medics during the commotion, not paying Karu any attention.

Kyria joined in, getting to her feet once more. The king soon joined her, and after several moments of fanfare, the king once more addressed the crowd. "Today has proved to be a great day in the history of Damasses. I believe that we have found a more than capable General in this young warrior. Let the feast be prepared and the festivities begin. Celebration is called for, where our new General will receive his prize." And with that another cheer erupted in the crowd. Karu was approached by several guards, who had come to lead him to the palace. As the arena cleared out, the king and his two generals finally headed back to the palace, to prepare for the ceremony. They joined a small unit of soldiers, among which were the guards and Karu, and the King led the way on his horse, Kyria and Lain behind him separated from Karu by only 10 men.

Karu sighed at how quickly things occurred. Didn't these people care about weather this man was dead or alive? Not only had he not thought this through, but he was about to be forced into a position he really didn't want. He was here only to slay the man, and be on his merry way. He said nothing, but followed as he was herded into the palace by the guards. He didn't even care to consider escape at the time due to the unwanted attention he was getting here. One foul slip and he'd be in the gallows that or dead. He sighed softly as he was brought into a meeting room, and left there to be greeted by the king and his generals in due time. His eyes searched frantically about for an escape from this nightmare, but to no avail. No doubt if he made it out of this alive Heshiro wouldn't let him hear the end of it nonetheless Satske and the others. Finally submitting to the fact that there was not a chance of escape at the moment, he took a seat at a small table...his blade still at his side.

He was still somewhat tiered from his journey from Yaroh to Damasses so he gently wrapped his arms around his head upon the table, and closed his eyes for a little nap. He was never one for punctuality, and he gave a damn about how the king would take his lack of conviction at the moment...all he knew is that he was beat, and he badly need a nap. He couldn't help, but think back to the days of when he was, but a normal child training with his brothers and Genpa, and somewhat smiled at the thought as he yawned sleepily. "What ever happened to the simple days?" he chided to himself as his attention was immediately diverted lifting his head to a door opening. The king and his entourage entered with gleaming smiles. Karu's face stayed emotionless and he yawned once more staying seated...like I said...he gave a damn about protocol when it came to the king, he just wanted to get this over with.

Kyria followed behind the king and as he took a seat at the head of the table, Lain sat at the other end and Kyria sat across from Karu. She looked at him with scrutinizing eyes, trying to take in as much of him as she could. Watching him during the tournament, she had been impressed by him; now, seeing him so rudely slouched across from her she frowned and narrowed her eyes. Was this man to be their third general? Kyria sat back in her chair, crossing her arms across her chest, holding herself back from making a comment.

"Congratulations, my boy." the king finally spoke up, patting Karu heartily on the shoulder. "It has been quite some time since we have seen someone of your talent in Damasses. You will, I hope, find Damasses to your liking; I do not believe I have seen you around the kingdom before."

Sighing, Kyria looked to Lain, who looked equally unimpressed with Karu. He leaned over to her and whispered, "Hardly seems to be the same person, wouldn't you agree?" Kyria nodded, glancing back at Karu. Maybe she was judging too soon, but the young man across from her certainly had they were burdening him, intruding on his precious time. "If he's not careful, I'll wipe that smart look off his face..." she thought, shaking her head.

Karu somewhat slouched away from the king's touch. Had this been any other man trying to lay a hand on him, he would be missing his arm. He sighed as he only nodded at the king's question. He was in no mood to continue on with this distraction. He smirked as he pushed his seat back standing to his feet, and reaching into his coat pocket removing a cigarette, and placing it to his lips. He paid no attention to the king, and glanced momentarily at the two frowning generals. "Look...your highness...I've had a very long day, and frankly i'm in no mood to go through such a long speech, all I want to do is retire to my quarters and sleep," he uttered examining the lady genera to his rightl. So this was the infamous woman whom he'd heard about so long ago...she didn't look like much of a fighter, but he'd been wrong before. He let the unlit cigarette dangle from his mouth as he walked towards the door passing the lady general, and the young looking male general. "If you need me i'm sure you can send one of your peons to find me, other than that...I think i'll just to take my leave now...oh...and nice to meet you two," he uttered turning his head slightly to the side towards the two generals.

He was almost positive now that he had met the woman some time ago. If he could recall, he was on a rather high paying mission at that point of time. He smirked at the thought of knowing her and apparently tried not to think of such a grimacing failure of a mission. Had it not been for that woman, he would've gotten away unscathed, and collected a full bounty. Of course he wasn't going to his quarters...he of course was off to get the hell out of dodge. He would blow this city, and collect the bounty he had so recently earned from dispatching his target. He was slightly concerned though being that there was no proclamation of death, and it somewhat made him uncomfortable. Never had a man survived a slash from his blade, but if this was the case, he would more than likely pay a visit to the infirmary to finish the job.

They watched as Karu left, Tiberius rising himself. His generals followed suit as the king addressed them. "It appears that we will have to wait for the celebration to give Karu his prizes." The generals nodded, and before anyone else could make a motion Kyria darted out of the room. She could no longer contain her anger at Karu, and was seething as she approached Karu from behind.

"How dare you talk to King Tiberius like that!" she exclaimed, moving around to his front side, stopping his movements. "You know, you have some nerve. Do you even realize who that man is, what he has done?" She lifted his hand as though to strike him when Lain called out.

"Kyria, restrain yourself!" Lain had followed Kyria out and luckily had caught her before she started a fight. Kyria pulled her hand back and spun away, continuing down the hall to her own room. How could she have let that ignorant man get to her like that? Lain watched as she stormed off before turning back to Karu. "Since i know that you don't know the way around the castle, allow me to lead you to your room." he said, motioning down the hallway. He would not give Karu the opportunity to leave the castle, and he proceeded to escort Karu down to the room that had been set up for him. After he was sure that Karu would head inside, he called for a guard. "Make sure our champion gets all the rest he needs, and that no one disturbs him. The king will be upset if anything would keep him from attending the ceremony tonight." The last sentence was said loud enough for Karu to hear, as Lain gave him a sidelong glance and a smirk before turning and heading off.

Karu shook his head as he watched the lady general storm off to her room keeping a straight face. He sighed once more at the accommodations they had already prepared. Apparently they were a bit smarter than he gave them credit for. He let his long silver hair fall in front of his face, and looked at lain with a glare as he slinked into his room watching the appointed guard take his place in front of the door. The nerve of that man to put him under house arrest after winning such a prominent tournament...he should be free to wander about as he wished, and what about that damn woman...so high and mighty this lot was...pft! He slammed his hand upon the coffee table as his eyes followed the wall looking for a window. He grinned slyly as he found a rather large balcony like deck area in front of his room, and quickly opened it up stepping onto it. He felt the cool summer breeze blow upon his face, and paused taking in the smells of Damasses. He had to admit that this kingdom smelt like heaven compared to all the others.

Finally stepping forward to make his escape he peered down the balcony only to be caught off guard at the sheer height in which he was. He hadn't remembered walking up this far...as a matter of fact he didn't remember taking any stairs at all. He cursed loudly damning elven magic, and barged back into his room plopping down upon his bed quietly thinking. "Okay...so the balcony is out of the picture...and the front door would simply be a hassle, so that leaves me with..." he let the sentence strive on as he peered up at a ventilation shaft. He didn't realize that the shaft led straight into Kyria's room, as he unscrewed the bolt to the entrance of the shaft, and began crawling within it as quiet as a mouse as to not make a sound. Finally reaching the other room, he let himself down from the rafter...his back turned to the lady general whom sat there watching in awe, sitting on the bed. "There...now...what more could go wro..." his voice echoed from the rafter as he finally cleared the vent. His sentence was cut short as he spun around and looked directly at Kyria, and somewhat choked on the remainder of his words.

Kyria threw the door to her room open and stormed in, slamming it shut behind her. She was more mad at herself than anything. She had yet to completely learn to quell her temper. uickly she began pacing the floor of her room, muttering to herself until she calmed down. Slowly, she stopped mid stride, closed her eyes, and let out a deep sigh. Turning to survey her room, it was just as she had left it, with her training attire still laid out on her bed next to her outfit for the ceremony that night. Suddenly feeling hot in her armor, she decided to slip into the loose tunic that she wore while exercising solo.

Piece by piece she removed her armor, setting them aside on her desk. The last things she removed were her sais that she concealed at her hip beneath her armor. Setting them down beside the ceremony outfit, she pulled the tunic up over her head and began pulling it down. Just then, she became aware of the rustling in her ventilation shaft. Straightening her tunic, she turned to watch from near her desk as Karu appeared, her eyes widening as he climbed down. He apparently hadn't noticed her, and he began to congratulate himself before he turned and their eyes met.

Kyria blushed. She was nearly naked before him, with her weapons a good 3 feet behind her on her bed. She opened her mouth as though to speak, but said nothing, instead grabbing the nearest thing to her and throwing it at Karu. It was a large book, which flew just past Karu's head and crashed against the wall, falling to the ground with a thud. Whiping around, she rushed to her bed and picked up her sai, holding them at a ready position as she advanced on Karu.

"It isn't bad enough that I lost my temper because of you, but now you sneak into my room?!" she seethed, baring down on him. Before he could answer, she lashed out at him with her left hand, keeping the right hand prepared for her second strike, leaving her lower half open for an attack.

Karu nearly fell backwards as the book hit the wall mere inches away from his head. With but a moment to orientate himself, he quickly dodged Kyria's first lunge with her sai, catching her at the wrist, and immediately seizing her second wrist in his other hand, slamming and pinning her against the wall with his own body. The two stood there panting as they both struggled to gain control over the other, until finally Karu prevailed. He grunted as he pinned her wrists to the wall, and struggled to regain his breath. "Damn you woman! I'm not here to harm you..." he said somewhat in a rage. "Look...you want me gone, and I simply don't want to be here...from my standpoint, the two of us have something to gain from this, so if you play your cards right, and get me the hell out of here, we'll both be better off okay?"

He sat there staring deeply into Kyria's eyes. His breath was sweet from the milk and honey he had drank after the tournament, and he was coated in a light coat of sweat. He soon became flustered upon realization that Kyria's very curved body was pressing against his own, and that his face was only mere inches away from her own face...he had never actually been with a woman before. His cheeks flushed red as he looked away still keeping her pinned to the wall. "We have a deal or what," he asked breaking the undaunted silence that added to the sexual intensity of the moment. He slowly released her wrists, backing away, but still keeping caution to the wind in the event she would strike again. He was no fool as to cut down a woman of her stature...he would be hunted by half the continent if he were to cut this woman down...or at least thats what he kept trying to tell himself. "Get a grip Karu...focus on the task at hand," he thought to himself as he backed away a bit more, his legs hitting the edge of the bed.

Without taking her eyes off of him, Kyria set her weapons down on her desk. Rubbing her wrists, she moved past him to her closet and stepping inside for a moment. When she returned, she was wearing a floor length sleeveless coat over her tunic, finishing with the last clasp as she appeared. Taking a sash she had also taken from the closet, she wrapped it around her waist, causing her figure to become more noticeable beneath the coat.

"I hate to agree with you, but you are right. You'll never make it out of this castle on your own, and the sooner I get you out of here the sooner I won't have to see that face of yours again." Slipping into a pair of ornate slippers by her bedside, she motioned for him to follow as she headed out her door. She took the opportunity to make sure that no guards were around to see him leaving her room, and once she was sure, she headed off down the hallway, looking back every once in a while to make sure he was still following her.

They made it all the way down to the entrance hall, where anyone who wished to meet with the king waited to be led into his chambers, without meeting any guards. Kyria was about to cheer their good luck when she heard the clanking of armor behind them. Wheeling around, she saw three guards heading for them. One was the one who had been posted at Karu's door. Kyria instinctively grabbed Karu's hand, though she didn't even notice. "General Kyria," one of the guards exclaimed as they reached her. "We have been given orders that Karu is not to leave his room until the festivities tonight, for his own sake. The man whom Karu beat is in critical condition, and General lain is worried that his comrades may attempt to attack Karu. No one is being allowed into or out of the castle, and the gates will not be opened until this evening."

"I do apologize. I was just giving Karu a tour of the palace to occupy the time." The guard was about to protest, when Kyria raised her hand to silence him. "I promise you that no harm will befall him while I am watching him, I only ask that we can continue the tour." The guards bowed and headed off, and Kyria instantly wheeled around and headed into the garden. She entered into the immense garden and looked around for some solution to their new problem, all the while not realizing they were holding hands.
