Curiosity always gets the better of me.
I wanna know your reasons for picking the character you chose to play. Whether it be because you're heritage was from that country or whether you just simply liked the character or found that they would be easy for you to play because your personalities are similar; OR simply because you found that no one else was playing that character that you wanted to snag them right up.
I'll be very honest with you, at first I wasn't at all interested in Hetalia. I wasn't really interested in it, but then a friend of mine reintroduced it to me when she was watching the Anime one day and that's what made me cave and watch it with her... after that I started to get into the comics and my friend then convinced me to make an Italy account on Gaia along with her Germany. My friend thought that I would be able to play him really well, so I went for the gusto. xD
I'm a terribly curious person and I love to learn new things about people know. So, dearest guild members, what were your reasons?

o_o ... I thought that it would be a good way to get back in touch with my polish roots. I noticed a lot of historical jokes amid the madness, and settled in for the long run. I can't think of a better way to learn about the history of a rarely touched subject here in the US then in this format. Seriously, we don't learn about ANYTHING over there. I had to do outside research in middle school to learn anything about the Korean and Vietnam wars. D> Such is the price when your government cares more about the size of its military then it does about providing pencils and books that actually have accurate maps. You know, the kind that don't have the USSR printed on it.
...unless we're talking about reenacting the biggest battles of history through careful strategical games and setting ourselves as the leading commander, changing history with our own creative plots... fufufufu... >)

That's just the kind of answer I was looking for, too!
The thing I noticed about Hetalia is that it makes history fun and it makes me hit Wikipedia and other historic websites to obtain more information on certain countries and stuff, as well as NON-CERTAIN countries, lol. It's really nice to see people getting into history, just from an Anime, a silly one at that.
I seriously had no idea Sealand existed until I got into Hetalia. xDD

YET. I'm not sure I'd be able to survive that, I've got no Italian inheritance under my belt, but I've been looking at the language and some tid bits of history on the history channel and stuff. xD
Yeah... my friend teases me all the time with that. xD *KINDA ONE OF THOSE REGULAR JOES... KINDA* I'm getting better... sloooowly.
You know what helps? LISTENING TO MUSIC FROM THAT COUNTRY. I noticed that after listening to Japanese music and watching shows in Japanese, that I'm slowly beginning to understand the words and some of the context they're used in. It's pretty cool. SOMETIMES I CAN WATCH STUFF WITHOUT SUBS AND UNDERSTAND WHAT'S GOING ON! *So proud of self, lol; was never the sharpest tool in the shed*

Hmm... I guess I have more reasons why I started... o.o
Firstly all the names were still there for the taking, too tempting~ <3
Aside from that, my sister made the Austria account... so Switzy was just perfect for me. I wanted someone who could interact with Austria, seeing as we were alone back then.
I am actually Austrian myself, so I thought a nation with similar culture which I can relate to would be best.
It was the choice between Germany and Switzerland really. x3 It's his personality which made me choose him over Germany in the end. ^^ I thought he'd be easier for me to do.
Although I wouldn't say Switzerland is in any way similar to me, I just enjoy playing him A LOT! xD
He's the first rp I ever did, and now I'm too in love with this character to ever give him up. <3 :3
I didn't think I would learn more about history through rp back then to be honest, seeing as there was no one else there to interact with... but the series itself caught my attention through the history-factor. I have never heard anything about Scandinavian or Asian history for example, it's fun to learn new things through anthropomorphic countries. x3
And now that there are so many fellow hetalia-roleplayers out there I've been learning new things and getting to know new people constantly, I must say things couldn't have turned out better. :3

=/ I picked my characters because I like to learn about different nationalities and their culture along with the language. I'm a very curious person. >< My reason is small, yes. But its the truth. >>

When I saw Roddy's name wasn't taken... (none of the names were back then XD) I just created the account and fell instantly in love with playing him. He was also my first rp character, and I've so far not felt the need to play anyone else, he's just so much fun >w< And yes, I has much learnings about culture now too.

CHEERS, ICELAND. You did a good job.
Srsly. I don't know what the hell possessed me to play Gilbert. I HAVE NO IDEA.
You know what I had to go by in the beginning? One comic. The valentine's one with Germany, Austria and Italy. That's what I was working off of for the longest of times. And APPARENTLY I WAS DOING A GOOD JOB I DON'T EVEN KNOW. SO THEN LIKE, I GOT AUSTRIA'S YAHOO THING AND WE TALKED and then I learned more because Austria threw other comics at me that I DIDN'T KNOW EXISTED. -LAME- And I was like ********-- THIS ISN'T GOING ANYWHERE.
OH. My friend said I would be good at Prussia because I'm constantly going on about how awesome I am and s**t, and I'm really narcissistic sometimes. So I was like "What the hell, let's do this." >_>
So yeah, that's pretty much my reasons. -FAIL-
AS FOR LANGUAGE AND STUFF-- I should really molestthank Austria and Switzerland because they're amazing and I've been like, attackingasking Austria anytime I need help with my German. WHICH IS PRETTY AWESOME. And yeah yeah, learning stuff about other countries, too. Cool stuff. You guys are awesome. BUT NOT AS AWESOME AS ME.
