This is just a place to discuss the new book now that its been out. I don't know about all of you but I read all of it yesterday over the course of nine hours.

Overall I'm okay with the book. It was definitely dark and sad but I'm glad that a lot ot these things happened because it solved several issues. We finally figured out more about the fae and we get to see some actual character development as far as Jason and Sookie are concerned.

I didn't realize it until later last night but the book takes series over three days, which is why it seems so very rushed. Now I just can't wait for the tenth book to see how things evolve.

And I'm really damn upset about Claudine. I'll be mourning her for a long time.

Hear hear! Claudine was so happy, knitting away, then that b*****d Breandan showed up. I was in tears over all that.

I figured Mel would be a one book character. Poor shmuck.

Very disturbing, the amount of damage Sookie took in this book. She's gotten thrashed before, but nothing like what Lochlan and Neave did to her.

I have to say, I've never been all that partial to Bill. Now, however, I like him a lot more. Eric still takes first prize, but Bill has proven his devotion.

T___T We should have a moment of silence for poor Claudine. She was just perfect. And after all the times she saved Sookie's life this is what she gets. Poor dear. I wonder how Claude's going to take it.

Oh yes. I predict that this is really going to change our loveable Sookie forever. I mean she's never been tortured before. But I'm glad that she has Eric with her to help her get through this. I think that's what Niall meant when he told her that the vampire really did love her. I think he wants her to go to him to help her heal.

I'm with you about Bill. After the sixth book I really didn't like him so much but now I'm really starting to love him again. We know he loves her so much and this just goes above and beyond to prove it. I find that I can forgive him now.

I'm also really glad that Jason and Sookie are talking again. I think Jason is finally getting to the point that he's being mature and can see the world beyond himself. Maybe now he'll actually be the big sister he needs to be to Sookie.

But what do you think about how many women were pregnant in this book? There was Crystal (who was pregnant in the last book too but), Tara, possibly Halleigh, and Claudine. And it was only the human mothers who survived this book. I don't know what this is going to spell out for the rest of the supe world. Maybe, if all the supe mothers can't survive, its going to come down to war between the supernatural world and humans. That would be interesting.

I'm still ready to see what the next book is going to be like.

I was actually thinking that females expecting babies in this series are spelled for death. Maybe it's symbolism or a metaphore?

Claude's reaction to Claudine's death: "*monotone* Oh no. I am so...Uh...man- er, I mean sad. *ecstatic* Do I get more book time? biggrin OH! Look at my fingernails! They are so PERFECT!"

I'm currently supporting Bill, since it's pretty obvious Sookie's going to go with a vampire now. I hate Eric, and Bill's been nothing but faithful with Sookie throughout this whole thing (Selah aside, as Sookie rubbed her but all over Sam, so they cancel eachother out), and defended her to the near-death even when she nookie for Sookie'd with Eric.

I'm glad Bubba's back! biggrin

What Jason did to Sookie, in tricking her, wasn't right, but it was smart. I know Jason's getting more mature and all, but we're acting as if Sookie's the most mature character.

Alcide didn't appear, did he? Quinn made a brief cameo and Sam was away and ignored for most of the book. Barry isn't even there, either.

And about Sookie being tortured: It's not THAT bad; Bill probably went through the same -if not more- in Book 3, yet that fact is being ignored.

I'm starting to giggle at all the deaths; I liked those characters, but I also like seeing them drop like flies; it's so unexpected!

BUBBA.

Eh, personally, I don't think it's all that great.

I mean, it was above-average and all (Actually, it was pretty good-great), but it just didn't wow me, and I didn't really feel the ending that well. It felt oddly out of place. I dunno why.

Personally, I loved the seventh one; that was the highlight of the series for me, for some reason. I guess I thought it was pretty cool when sh!t blew up.

It was rather startling to see how many of the women turned up pregnant. Crystal we knew about, and let's face it, that poor baby was doomed. Knowing that Lochlan and Neave were responsible for Crystal's final end just make me ill, given that we know what they did to Sookie.

Halleigh is still iffy. As for Tara, I'm starting to wonder about JB. He's SO gorgeous, and so dim, I wonder if there isn't some supernatural element in his history also. Harris is full of surprises about her characters' backstories. Given how many supporting characters died in this book, she's going to need to bring some of the others forward.

I'm just so down about Claudine. And her baby. To slaughter a breeding female in times of low population growth has been considered one of the greater crimes throughout history and across cultures.

The biggest disappointment was learning Niall's plans for Faerie. I really like his character and I was looking forward to Sookie spending more one on one time with him. Knowing the truth about her parents' death (something I'd suspected in vague terms since Book One) made me so furious on Sookie's behalf, and by the same token made me want to have Niall stand by her and comfort her over all her losses.

All this made the way she whacked Murry that much more satisfying!

I was so happy about the Eric situation. I knew he would have something up his sleeve, and he didn't disappoint.

I'm with you Shadowkin on the part about Niall planning to seal up Faerie anyway. I mean, what the hell?! You just went though all of this only to reach the exact same outcome! So much bloodshed and torture and heartache could have been completely avoided.

But then we wouldn't have the ninth book, would we?

*sigh*

I'm just glad that Charlaine has promised that the tenth book will be much lighter.

As far as who she will end up with, while I would love for it to be Eric, I just don't know how that would work. Of the two Bill would be the best for her lifestyle wise but I don't honestly think she'll ever go back to him again. Sure she still loves him but you never really get over your first love. Especially if they are you first everything.

I know that Eric and Sookie's relationship will really begin to develop in this next book since they are married now and all. I can't wait to see how that plays out.

So many characters were OOC (out of character); Sam and Quinn mean, Alcide not even there, Andy -well, okay, still a jerk.

No offense to the author, but this book seems more like fan fiction at most parts.

I can't see Sookie getting back together with Bill unless somebody takes out Eric or Eric does something that she just cannot and will not tolerate.

I have to say it was refreshing to see Bill and Quinn attack each other. There has been so much hostility right up to the point of actual confrontation and violence between Sookie's various boyfriend-hopefuls that it was nice to see those two just throw down hard. And then knock it off the instant they'd been stupid enough to make Sookie a casualty. I was almost expecting Niall to show up and bang their heads together. Picture Dillon in the middle of a brawl between Bill and Quinn!

OR Bill could act dominant, and act like a pompous jerk. Then Bill could go to the spa and get his hair done, get a manicure, and maybe dye his vampire hair.

I was really sorry to see Dawson leave the series. He's such a good character, lots of depth and heart. The idea of Amelia and Dawson dating was so funny in so many ways, while also being really sweet. He went out the way he would have wanted to go.

I KNOW!!! I feel so bad for Amelia!! She had finally found someone that she really liked and who she couldn't turn into a cat!!!

I hope she doesn't blame Sookie for his death or anything. That is one of my biggest fears.

That would be a serious bummer, for sure.

Speaking of boyfriend trouble, I'm wondering what will happen with Octavia's man Louis. Those tattoos were pretty damn scary, and I'm sure they spell bad juju.

The reaction of the Herveaux pack to the loss of Dawson will be interesting to see. Their membership has taken some hard hits lately.

I don't think Octavia's boyfriend will be any trouble. It sounds like they have been together for a long time. Plus this is Octavia we are talking about. I'm sure she could take care of herself against a witch doctor.

I'm really glad she found him too. She deserved to be happy which I know she wasn't living with Sookie and Amelia.

Was Dawson actually part of the pack or was he still a loner? I know he threw in with Alcide to help out and everything but I can't remember if he was officially part of the pack or not.
