The Tehnari Cliffs are vast -- they stretch from one mountain range that borders this valley, to the other. They make up the entire southern border of this kingdom .. and they are the end to it, for the ocean lies out beyond them.

Rolling hills and grassland gives way to the rocky edge of the cliff only at the last few feet -- in fact, it's almost as if the earth just stops here. Near the south-western corner of the lands, several massive stones -- of a substance not native to the area, a deep obsideon black that contrasts ominously with the white of the lands -- stand silent over the cliffs.

There are some beaches down below on the ocean, but there's no way to get done there from here ...

The enormous spectacle of the sea below was lost on it's lonely Rishan surveyor, who only stared lazily off into space, his luminescent yellow eyes half closed against the chilly ocean breeze. Cheshire liked strange places. The glossy obsidian was uncomfortably slippery and cold, and the wind tugged ruthlessly at his colorful fur, but it was an unusual place. Unusual was good.

'Like you'. the wind called in its whining tone. His trademark grin grew broad in reply. Yes. Unusual was very good. And he was very unusual. There were benefits in that.

The rustle of sturdy paws upon grass was lost to the howling wind. The rishlan stopped barely a few metres away from the other, deep orange eyes gazing over the creature who sat upon the obsidian. Her creamy fur was whipped back within the cold, the mottled feathers close to one ear flapping dangerously in the wind as if one more tug would make them fly off into the distance.

Yet, Eclipse decided to sit there, content to watch the male bask lazily upon the polished rocks. Her creamy coloured mop of hair upon her forehead flew back in the wind, revealing a crescent moon shaped pattern branded to her fur.

A chill that was not from the cold raced down the length of his spine, perhaps from instinct or a warning from Cheshire's own uncanny sensitivity. A flicker of an ear, a slight shift in position, but only the saltiness of the sea and the insistent howling of the wind invaded his senses, giving no betrayal to the other's identity.

"This place is not as lonely as one would think." His voice sounded odd; suited for short, clipped sentences, and yet he drawled every word. "Are you traveling? Or viewing?" Too bad if they could not hear over the wind. It was possible there was no one there, which would be just as well.

Eclipse stayed silent, maybe it was for her own good, to stay silent maybe not. She didn't waver from where she was sitting, only moving to stretch her fore-paws out in front of her, continuing to lie down to try and escape what she could of the wind. Of course, she failed in her little plight to remove the harsh gale that lashed viciously through her fur, the weather giving no mercy to either rishlan.

Resting her paler chin down onto chocolate brown tipped paws, two orange eyes never left his back. Maybe she should have been weary, true, but the female rishlan didn't seem to show any of this emotion at all. Not turning to run at the voice, nor bark back a response. The only movement the other received in return was a light flick of one ear to receive the sound and then silence.

The cold feeling refused to vanish even when his question provoked no answer. Almost grudgingly the purple Rishlan straightened from his half-crouch on the rocks, ignoring the vicious wind threatening his footing, and turned. His eyes narrowed further to yellow slits when he spied the female laying below. Completely silent. Of course.

Cheshire carefully settled back down upon the obsidian, this time facing Eclipse, and tucked his paws under his body, though he stood straight against the sea's anger which rapped his feather beads painfully against an ear. "Quiet little spirit you are." he continued. He didn't expect a response, though ignoring someone wasn't something he was capable of. Conversation was preferable to the view. "Must I do all the talking?"

Eclipse raised her gaze from his back to his narrowed eyes as he stood, the female not even battering an eyelid, staying silent. For the first time she let her eyes wander over his striped fur, funny little thing that he was, before resting back on those two yellow eyes. Just the very tips of her creamy ears twitched, the tip of her tail curling round until it rested by her side, as not to get blown back in the wind as her fur was.

Not seeming worried as his feathers flapped painfully back in the wind, the female stayed mute. Whatever was going on, she would let him do the talking for the moment. Never having been an overly sociable animal, she didn't really expect this conversation to go on for very long. Whatever she was, the little rishlan was either completely mute or just staying silent for the point of it.

Cheshire shook his head at a particularily strong gust, flattening his ears back against his skull. He didn't seem outerly perturbed by Eclipse's silence, and sat there for a few moments, choosing his words. "I suppose that's an answer." he finally said, watching her closely. "Though that is not the way I would go about it. Words are music of the soul, after all."

Not that it was in his place to judge. How long could she stay quiet? Even those who had no words had the speech of the body...so he had to conclude she was either very untalkative or too...what, stubborn? to let her feelings show, even if she was speechless. He had never been very good at reading things like that. Only guesses, at most.

The rishan leaned closer along the cool obsidian, eyes on hers. "Or has your soul no want for such things?"

The rishlan averted her gaze from his, her eyes splashing over with pain for a few moments. Those suddenly soft orange eyes glittered with weakness, finally leaning forwards to rest her gaze back onto his a few moments later.

Another strong breeze lashed through Elipses fur, her tail weaving its way around to press far closer against her body. What could she say? What was she to reply to this male, he was different from most others she had come across. Any other creature usually taking to ignoring the creamy colored female as she portrayed her silence.

Finally having removed her chin from her darker paws, one paw etched forwards, the female shuffleing a little closer. For what reason she didn't know, but he was talking to her, and Eclipse felt a sudden urgency to try and reply the best she could.

Cheshire's gaze never wavered, the same unblinking stare catching again her eyes as they turned back. He had expected her to continue her vigil, and was caught off guard when she began to move; he repressed the urge to back away, but it was obvious by the stiffening of his fur that it had been close. It might have been a sigh that hissed through his teeth. Finally, a reaction!

"So you are alive?" He pressed forward a few inches more, claws digging into the rock. "Very good thing, that."

Eclipse rested one brown paw upon the other, her ears flicking right back against her head, but this little move wasn't because of the wind for once. She seemed to notice every little move, the way his fur stiffened up, and then the little sigh exhaling his lips as she finally showed some sort of life.

Nudging her nose forewords once more, the soft milky white fur under her chin met with the chocolate brown paws. Eclipse gazing up towards the male, she tried her best to stay blank yet her eyes showed a completely different story. The two orange hued eyes gazing back into his with almost confusion after the sigh hissed through his teeth and into the wind, one gust blowing the little sound across the sea.

Cheshire crept further so that their noses were close to touching, something in those cool yellow eyes flickering. It wasn't confusion, like hers, nor something kindly - something like a flame, crackling with life. Fascination. He was profoundly curious about this odd little female. Definitely one who was alive. Not obviously...but thankfully, had a little personality in her. A game, that's what it was. Tease out her essence, just to see if it were possible.

The wind lashed out. He backed away a step, raising his head to gaze towards the field of rocks beyond. "We will probably end up in the sea sooner or later," the purple rishan commented, "if this keeps up. Lovely, deadly thing, nature. Perhaps it would be best to lie low?"

Lifting her head as wind lashed out, it was all she could do to not move along the ground with it. So, the rishlan pulled her paws from underneath her, standing beside this male. Nudging her cold nose into his soft fur, Eclipse urged him forewords, padding a few steps herself away from the male. To sit, look back at him, and of course wait for him to follow.

She didn't wander far, just a little further away from the cliff where the gale lost its authority. Ever powerful, but the wind wasn't enough to blow the pair of them off their feet.

Returning to sitting just a few metres away from him, the female watched the licker of flames within those yellow orbs. The confusion in her own dying and the blank, almost emotionless, look returned. Covering her back, for she didn't fully trust the male yet to any extent.

Cheshire felt oddly at peace with this one. Nevermind at a false moment she could lead him to a false step, and that would be the end of it. 'Try that, she'd probably end up in the sea', was the thought that held the most calm; again, nevermind details... He flashed her a quick grin, then clambered to his feet. "Lead on, please?"

{Sorry, short post ^^'}

With a small flick of just the tip of her tail, the rishlan pawed her way further from the cliff. Each paw carefully being placed after the next, even footed, so if he did try a false move from behind Eclipse could easily catch her balance. Yet, something deep inside the female told her he wouldn't, something screamed from her very bones to trust him for now.

As this thought passed through the rishlan female paused, turning around to wait for him to trot up beside her before she went any further. The little flop of hair that had been blowing back in the wind now stuck to her forehead once more.

((Heh, don't worry about it, we all do short posts sometime. Ne?))
