In a Guild of people such as this, it's damn hard to imagine there aren't at least a few Neil Gaiman fans. This topic is for this dicussion of all of Gaiman's works, including comics (Sandman, Mr. Punch, etc.), long fiction (American Gods, Neverwhere, etc.), short-stories, and film work (Stardust, Mirrormask, etc.).

If you are familiar with Stardust, you should really read the book. The move just doesn't get the point of it. It's all right but lacks the depth of meaning found in the novel.

Stardust is a great book. (:
I randomly picked it out at the book shop, read it, and then what do ya know, they made a movie . . .
Runa Whynd is right, the book is oh so much better . . .

I'm reading the Anansi Boys right now, just began it. I've been wanting to read more of his work for so long, I'm pretty excited about it.

Have you read American Gods then? Anansi Boys is sorta kind of a sequel to it.

The movie lacks the depth of the book, certainly, but I don't think that's especially a bad thing. Film is a very different medium, and I think Stardust succeeded in being a great film, even though it wasn't great at adapting the novel's finer points to screen.

I think as a stand alone it's a decent film but not great. However, as an adaptaion I think it fails. I believe an adaptation should be true to the spirit of the books. Get the proper message. The message in the movie isn't even in the same park as the book.
