The blonde walked along the streets of Rukongai, hands behind her head. She was clad in a blue and violet kimono, her wooden slippers treading across the ground. There were people around her - loads of people, even from little kids running around, some people older than her standing tall above her and some adults selling and buying things here and there. She was new to the place and there weren't a lot of people she knew, really. Her blue eyes wandered around. This was boring. She wanted to find something exciting! Didn't they have television set in here or something? Really, she couldn't handle just how ... electronically absent this place called 'Soul Society' was. While she expected it to be sort of feudal judging from the rather ancient-looking houses and ancient-looking clothes the people were wearing, she didn't expect it to be boring. The only thing that she found remotely interesting [so far] was the presence of the shinigami.
Risika Nami was the short girl's name, around five feet one in height and fairly petite. Course, she blamed her age for this though that was usually not a sufficient reason. Nobody ever listened to her when she started her being annoying. Nami tugged at the end of the ribbon holding part of her hair before -
"Ah, it loosened. Darn it," she muttered, continuing her walk while trying - trying - to fix the ribbon tying her hair. Really, it wouldn't be so complicated if she had a mirror in front of her. Speaking of which, she really should find someplace to stay and -
"Itai!" she shouted, out of impulse as she bumped into someone. Looking up, annoyance clearly on her face, she shouted, "Oi, watch where you're going, idiot!" Oh, yes. Nami was never known for being nice.

Katsumi yawned and looked around him. Rukongai was quite busy, as always. He managed to adapt to Rukongai's environment by this time. He loved the fresh air and the peace. The air was definitely better because of the lack of cars and factories. There wasn't the noisy sound of men on phones, crying babies, and of course, chatting schoolgirls. The sky was also very blue, and a myriad of stars were visible at night. He never noticed the beautiful night sky of Rukongai on his first day. He was too busy crying all night. Rukongai was truly a great place if he actually thought about it and looked into it closely.
Just then, he saw a glimpse of glossy blond hair among all of the black haired people. 'That's.. unique." He thought. He soon forgot about it, and went back to enjoying the peaceful environment of Rukongai. "Itai!" Katsumi felt something short bump into him. A person, maybe."What the--" When he looked down, an angry blonde girl snapped at him. "Oi, watch where you're going, idiot!" Katsumi was confused. Very confused. After he gathered his thoughts, he pointed at himself. "...Huh? Me?" He was pretty sure that he was just standing there since.. well, twenty minutes ago, but he didn't want to arouse an argument and make her mood even worse than it already was. "I-I'm sorry, miss. Are you alright? Did I hurt you by any chance?" Of course he didn't. He just decided to ask, just in case. He waited for an answer, hoping that he didn't sound sarcastic.

Nami rubbed her head before looking up in front of her, a tall man with gray hair and deep blue eyes. He wore the standard kimono - with some sort of haori over it - so she guessed he was definitely not one of the 'interesting' people on her list. She noticed orange freckles under his eyes, having a huge desire to just reach up and poke it. Of course, that wasn't the time for behaving like an idiot. If she wanted to, anyway, she probably would have to stand on her toes - something she vowed not to do in a room full of people because it was much too embarrassing and showed exactly how short she was. Yes, Nami was incredibly sensitive when it came to that particular topic.
Crossing her arms in front of her, she raised a brow at him. "Of course I mean you!" she shouted in the same high-pitched voice. When he asked if she was alright, asking if he hurt her somehow, she couldn't help but think he was being sarcastic. Oh, Nami knew fully well she bumped into him but her huge pride/ego would never let her admit to that. She was much too stubborn to do so. So instead of returning the favor of being nice, she put on an annoyed look once again. "I'm not hurt!" she shouted, before pointing at him in an accusing manner. "You're looking down on me, aren't you?! Just because I'm shorter than most people doesn't mean I'm gonna get hurt that easily!"
What the heck? Now she was just putting words in his mouth.

Katsumi blinked and looked down at the short blonde girl as she started to declare all sorts of things. He listened carefully nevertheless, and waited until she was finished. However, after she was finished, Katsumi coughed. He was hiding a slight laugh. He settled down again for a few seconds, and a slight laugh oozed out of his mouth. "pfff..!" He covered his mouth and giggled like a little girl. Although she was being angry, he couldn't help thinking that she was somewhat cute in a way. He cleared his throat, and clasped his mouth shut. "W-Well, miss. pff.. I-I'm sorry, I--" He cracked up for another moment, and took a deep breath before speaking again. "Excuse me. I'm sorry, miss. I didn't mean to hurt your feelings. Is there anything I can do to help you recover your self ego, by any chance?" Again, he sounded sarcastic. It wasn't intended, either.
He tried to change the topic with a self introduction. "I'm very sorry I bumped into you, miss. My name is Fujimoto Katsumi. May I ask for you name?" He paused for a moment. "A-And your age, please. Just curious. Katsumi started to laugh under his breath again.
whoops. He offered a handshake, hoping that she would forget about that laugh. "Nice to meet you."

She was mad and he was ... laughing? Laughing? He wasn't laughing at her now, wasn't he? Of course he was. It was more than obvious! He was covering his mouth and giggling! Nami's anger? Growing by the millisecond. Her face? Terribly red. Like a tomato, even. Really, he wasn't supposed to be lauhging! She was angry! Angry! How dare he laugh at her like that?! Her hands were already clenched tightly rising up in front of her, ready to hit him with whatever she had while he was talking about being sorry - though it seemed he wasn't judging from how he was still laughing [at her, might I add]. When he said something about her self-ego [which she took immediately as sarcastic, she replied, "Recover my self-ego?! My ego's just fine, you idiot!" No, she wasn't very aware on the people surrounding them.
He had changed the topic, Nami relatively calming down. She wasn't going to create a scene, she thought, releasing her clenched fist. He introduced himself as Fujimoto Katsumi. Well, she supposed she should return the favor. Closing her eyes, rather haughty at that, she was about to introduce herself when he added something to his little statement - her age. Oh, he did NOT just go there. She opened her eyes once again and glared at him with those eyes of hers, gritting her teeth. She wasn't going to cause a scene, not going to cause a scene, not going to -
"You're mocking me, aren't you?" she muttered, before shouting, "Idiot!" kicking his right leg with as much force as she could. Nami stood up straight, looking rather content though dazed. "Ah. That felt good."
Looking back at him, arms crossed in front of her once again. "And it's Risika Nami." Well, she might as well. After all, she did just attempt to kick him in the shin.

Whoops.
As soon as the girl raised her voice and called him an idiot, Katsumi tried to apologise. "I-I'm truly sorr--" "You're mocking me, aren't you?" "Huh?" "Idiot!" Katsumi felt a sharp pain hit his leg. It wasn't enough to knock him back, but it was enough to hurt. 'That.. probably.. left a mark,' thought Katsumi. She was pretty strong for a little kid. Just when Katsumi managed to collect his thoughts again, the girl spoke. "It's Risika Nami." He nodded and tried to smile like his usual self. "Nice to meet you, Nami." He looked around him. A huge bunch of people were staring at the two. He also heard whispers like, "Who is that guy?" "Maybe he's a pervert," "Should we stop him?" ...Right. The guy always got the blame.
Oh shoot. The laugh was coming back again. "Can you wait here for a few seconds? Alright, thanks." He walked behind a bush, slapped himself - hard, and walked back to his original spot. "Where were we? Oh, right. May I call you by your first name?" His right cheek and right leg felt as if they were burning. He did not and could not laugh at this rate.
And he just realised that his offer to shake hands was refused twice in a row.

She raised an eyebrow at his attempt at smiling - which pretty much failed due to the pain he was probably feeling. Serves him right. He was mocking her, mocking her! No one was allowed to do that! Why, yes, Nami has ... issues, especially regarding control. Maybe she's a control freak, maybe she isn't. One thing's for sure: she was proud as heck. Also, she hated rumors and people whispering like that were enough to get on her nerves. She really should get out of there - fast. That was, by the way, for her own good.
"Can you wait here for a few seconds? Alright, thanks."
"Heh? Wait - wait? I'm not gonna -" But he was gone. Stupid idiot. She'll have to teach him some manners. Especially on making people wait. Wait, why was she waiting in the first place, anyway? Nami watched him walk behind a bush, having no idea what he was doing there and no sooner did he walk back to his original spot in front of her, acting as if nothing was wrong, even asking her if he could call her by her name.
"... Fine," she said, after a moment's hesitation. She looked around her. She could smell something. Something delicious, only to find a sort of inn emitting a delicious aroma of what seemed to be sushi. Ah, sushi. She turned back to Katsumi, still with the haughty face and said, "Anyway, as an apology, you're going to treat me to some sushi!"

...Sushi? Sushi?? Katsumi took out his wallet and flipped through the pockets. It was enough to buy some sushi, but buying sushi for two people would probably cost him his dinner. He thought for a moment. Finally, he whispered to himself, "I must be crazy." He put his hands on his hips, and spoke. "Alright, then. I was also getting hungry, anyways." It was the truth, except he knew that it'll be even worse in the evening. He sighed, and put his wallet back into his sleeve. At that moment, he noticed that his generosity and patience increased significantly since his death. He almost wanted his lack of generosity and patience back. He shook the thought out of his head and snapped back into reality.
Katsumi looked around. "Where did you get the idea of buying sush--" He stopped talking as he sniffed the air, and traced the faint smell with his eyes. He saw some sort of a.. an inn, maybe? It looked pretty new, yet it didn't look bad at all. There wasn't many people going in or going out of the inn, though. "Let's get going, then." He walked into the inn, forgetting Nami's existance for a second, and looked around the place. The inn was almost deserted, as he expected. There were a few quiet people hanging around in the inn. A young man about the age of 20 went up to him. "Is there anything I can do for you, sir?" Katsumi pointed down at Nami with his thumb. "You might want to ask this.. this.. lively young lady here." He obviously had a hard time deciding what to call her. In fact, he just stopped himself from calling her a small lady.

Sweet, she got what she wanted. A grin crossed her face, happy at the fact she wasn't going to be worrying about eating - well, at present, anyway. She was going to have to find another person for dinner, maybe ... and possibly a place to stay. Really, she should stop begging in a not so begging manner some time soon and get herself a job. Then again, Nami hated jobs. She absolutely hated them. It sucks enough that she has to wake up early but wake up early for a job? No freakin way. Now if only there was a job where she could not to do a lot of things and still get paid back. Yeah um ... no chance at that so she'll stick to her 'begging in a not so begging way' for now. Hey, at least it worked on this poor guy - in both sense of the word.
"Let's get going, then."
She nodded, following him into the inn. Nami noticed it looked pretty new, probably put up there just , a week ago or a few days maybe. There were a few tables and a few chairs around each, only with little people sitting, having a drink, eating some sort of food and laughing with their friends. There were around two waitresses passing here and there to give them their food and a bartender taking care of the people who wanted to drink during midday. That didn't look healthy.
A man around in his twenties walked up to them, asking them for what they wanted. Katsumi pointed down at her, to which she replied, "Give us everything you got!" Yes, she could care less how much money Katsumi had in his wallet. In fact, the man was practically beaming with delight at the prospect of having so much money. To hell with them not looking rich enough; they could just be new to the place.

Everything they got? EVERYTHING?! Forget dinner, he might end up starving for two days. Although this was an important matter, he didn't even bother raising his voice and ripping his hair out. He knew that it was no use arguing with her by now. He just sighed, and took a seat. The man's eyes widened in joy as Nami ordered everything they had. Everything. He buried his face in his palms as all sorts of sushi started to pile up in front of him and Nami. He stayed in that position for a few minutes, and finally sat up, accepting the fact that this was reality.
He glimpsed at Nami and sighed. "Oh well," he tried to comfort himself by mumbling to himself. 'At least I get lots to eat today." Speaking of which, he didn't have big meals since he came to Rukongai because of the lack of funds. He decided to eat first, and think about his money later. He poured a little bit of soy sauce and dumped quite a big amount of wasabi in it. He mixed it and dipped a salmon sushi into it. He glared at it for a few seconds as if it was a foe, and popped it into his mouth. He stopped chewing for a moment as he realised that it tasted extraordinarily good. Maybe he was just hungry. Who knows? He sat up. The salmon wasn't completely frozen or cold, and the rice didn't taste like those disgusting hard ones in some other stores. The wasabi had an amazing taste, too. He loved spicy food, so he knew the difference between good wasabi and bad wasabi. He started to eat with enthusiasm, and totally forgot about the amount of money he was about to lose after the meal.

She was not at all ashamed at having bluntly asked Katsumi to buy everything. Okay, technically, she didn't ask him to buy everything seeing she was the one who did that herself, without even thinking about the amount of money that would need. Course, it wasn't like it was her money, so she could care less how much he had - all she cared about was eating and being full. When the man who came for them left, she immediately went to follow Katsumi, hair bouncing up and down as she walked - more like semi-skipped - towards him, excitement clear in her face as she pulled up the chair in front of him and hoisted herself onto it. Nami looked up at Katsumi. Oh, look, he had his face in his palm. She immediately concluded he was crying for joy; joy at the prospect of eating so many in a day!
The man soon returned, carrying two trays full of different sort of sushi, putting it down between them. Katsumi took a salmon sushi and dumped what looked like wasabi into it. Nami practically just took whatever she could find - not carrying for what it was as long as it tasted good and it did, dipping it in some soy sauce occasionally though avoiding the wasabi. She wasn't that good with spicy food. Nami watched Katsumi practically eat it all up. She just stared. How the heck could he manage to eat that much and not have his tongue burned off?
"You can stand something that spicy?" she asked, pointing at him with her chopsticks.

Katsumi chewed, completely unaware of Nami's stare. "You can stand something that spicy?" Katsumi paused for a moment, and swallowed the sushi. "Well," He cleared his throat, and rocked on his chair, thinking about the question. "... Good question. I guess I can." He ate another sushi - with tons of wasabi, of course - and started to taste it again. He chewed for a pretty long time, and swallowed. "It is spicy, but I guess I enjoy that stinging taste that goes from my tongue up to my nose, probably?" He shook his head. "It's hard to explain."
He looked around him. The sushi was very tasty, but nobody was really there. 'It might be a good thing,' he thought. 'since we are probably one of the first people to taste all of these.' The wall didn't even have a speck of dirt on it; even the floor was reasonably clean. Best of all, the inn didn't smell like old men who didn't take a bath for at least two weeks. Katsumi shuddered. That smell was too much for such a clean person like him. Maybe he was too clean. Everything in his room in the human world had things neatly aligned in rows. Even the fridge was neat. Anyway, he remembered the amount of his money - or lack thereof - and thought about what he should do after this.. this.. unnecessarily huge lunch. Of course, he didn't come up with anything. Katsumi popped another sushi in his mouth. Eventually, his mind was focused onto the sushi again, and trying to eat as much as Nami did. Katsumi had a habit of chewing very slowly and thoroughly, which made it hard to share food with others. This is why he preferred getting separate plates.

"Heh..." she stated after he explained his reasons for standing the spicy food laid in front of him and popped into his mouth. Nami couldn't stand really spicy food. Sure she tends to eat some but they're usually the less spicy kind. She, however, wasn't about to fail in front of him. Oh, that pride of hers - she hates losing and being that, she definitely didn't want to look like an idiot. If he was going to try eating as much as she was then she was going to do the same! Looking at the wasabi-filled soy sauce on Katsumi's end, Nami took a salmon sushi - like the one he had before - and dipped her own piece onto the wasabi before popping it in her mouth.
"HOT HOT HOT!" she shouted, dropping her chopsticks onto the table and reaching for the glass of water with her left hand, gulping it down immediately. That, however, didn't do it. "I-It's still -!" she stammered, tears forming in her eyes due to the the spiciness. Looking up at Katsumi across the table, with furrowed brows, she shouted, "Oi, buy me something sweet!" Hopefully, they'll get rid of the spicy taste.

Katsumi simply stared as Nami dipped her sushi into wasabi and popped it in her mouth. "HOT HOT HOT!" Katsumi jumped a bit as Nami started to shout. Her sudden reaction reminded him of a chicken of some sort, but he decided to keep that to himself. He turned to someone - anyone - who looked like a waiter and asked for something sweet. The waiter smiled as if he something was funny and said, "Mochi is all we have." Katsumi nodded. Mochi was perfect for soothing spicyness because of the layer of flour on the outside and the sweet red bean paste inside it. "That would be perfect, thanks." The waiter scurried into an opening in the corner of the room, which was probably a kitchen of somesort. He turned to Nami again, and offered his own water, which he barely even touched.
"Well, uh.." Katsumi cleared his throat as silence followed. Suddenly, he started laughing under his breath as he recollected his thoughts and realised how comical the situation looks. No wonder the waiter was smiling. He put himself in the shoes of a third person and went through the short series of events. First a tall dude with grey hair walks into an inn with a young lady who asks for every sushi the inn has. Then the young lady eats something that is, apparently, too spicy for her while the tall dude seriously tries to get help with a confused look on his face. Katsumi cleared his throat once more, and started to eat. "So," He popped a sushi into his mouth. "How was it?"

Mental note: never touch anything spicy. Ever. That, however, probably wouldn't even hold, especially if she was provoked. Nami was too easy to let do something yet not very predictable. She was too impulsive for that.
She watched Katsumi, with tears still in her eyes, order the waiter for some mochi. Mochi sounds good - no, great, even. "And hurry up!" she shouted back at the waiter, not even meaning to sound rude though definitely coming off as such. Then again, Nami wouldn't know what was rude if it slapped her in the face. Noticing Katsumi seemingly reaching for something, she turned her gaze from the waiter disappearing into some door in the far corner of the room to Katsumi, seeing him pushing his glass of water towards her.
Looking up at him, she quickly took the glass and raised it to her lips, drinking it all down without a gasp for air. "Ahh, it still won't disappear!" she whined, placing the glass down heavily on the table.
And then she heard a laugh. Coming from Katsumi.
"W-What are you laughing at, you b*****d?!" she shouted, standing up and slamming her fist on the table, making the glasses shake violently before stopping. She sighed. It was good she didn't have to pay if ever she broke that. Nami blinked upon being asked how the wasabi was. Her eyes narrowed at him at that, shouting, "What do you think? It was spicy! Really spicy! Ah, arigato, waiter-san," she stated once the waiter had placed the plate of mochi on the table albeit hesitantly. Taking one of the sweet placed in front of her, she took a bite, all the while saying, "An' chu ma-e me ee- i-, dam' you!" She's really trying to say 'and you made me eat it, damn you.'
