Am I the only one who has played Jump Superstars here? I can't seem to find many Yu Yu fans that even know about the game.

Jump Superstars is a fighting game on Nintendo DS that plays off the idea of "Super Smash Brothers" only it uses popular anime characters that have been serialized in Shonen Jump. Basically the way the story starts off is some unknown villain makes all the color in the manga worlds go away, and us manga fans love color! So it's up to Son Goku, Monkey D. Luffy and Naruto Uuzamaki to travel the world meeting familiar faces (to us anyway) and either challenging them to a friendly game (like collecting more coins than them) or just plain beating the crap out of them (it's especially fun when you get to beat the crap out of Bobobo). As you face more challenges and foes, you unlock more and more of the anime and manga characters you know and love (Ashira knows I was so psyched when I unlocked the Yu Yu Hakusho side story in the game, although she also knows I was cursing every time Hiei used his Dragon of the Darkness Flame on poor little Gon Freeks).
Now this sounds all well and good, but probably not worth importing a game over, I mean, I did say it was like Super Smash Bros, right? Wrong, the fact that it's on Nintendo DS brings a twist to the fighting system made popular by smash brothers. See, in the story mode, whenever you complete any aspect of a mission (there's usually 4 or 5 goals in a mission) you unlock a panel, each taken directly out of the Shonen Jump mangas. Instead of just choosing a character, you make your own manga page out of the pages youve collected, and when you tap the panels during a fight, you can switch characters, call in support from a friend character to help fight with you, or just have them heal you or give you simple stat boosts. It'll really throw someone for a loop when they're fighting Yugi Moto and Yoko Kurama decides to help the strange haired card playing kid by trapping whoever is trying to hurt him in a death plant. The fights are fast but the animations stay true to the characters, and alot is thrown in just for the fans. Some characters even have crossover attacks that are just amazing. For instance, Anna from Shaman King powers up Yusuke's spirit gun by channeling spirits into his finger and lets him unleash a gigantic blast; and of course nothing is funnier than Yugi Moto rising from Bobobo-bo-bo-bobo's Afro, leaving their opponents confused as Yugi summons a gigantic dragon to disentegrate their foes. There's over 150 characters and counting all versions of the characters, there's over 600.
If you're into anime at all, this is the perfect video game for you.

My God, that's incredible. surprised heart I did laugh at the Yugi coming out of BoBoBo's afro line.
Oh, just another question of interest if you don't mine. ^^; Since it can only be imported as of now. Is it possible in the near future that there will be a US release? My parents are very hesitant to buy imports let alone a DS.
I've heard that it's not likely since FUNimation, Atari, and other coorporations need to agree all together.

It's impossible for it to ever come to the US, but buying Import isnt so bad... www.ncsx.com Is a really good website for imports, it's a company in new york that stocks up on imported games and you buy them as you would any other game. Nintendo DS is compatible with games from all countries, so you dont need to tamper with the system or buy any new hardware.

It was funny when I was first playing it I was on the phone with Ashira, and I said, "Oh cool, you start as Naruto and Luffy" and she was like "I find that amusing" "How come?" "Go on gaia and tell me how many Pirates vs Ninjas threads you can find" "K........oh.......wow........" "Yeah....this is a big step in finally bringing pirates and ninjas together." "Oh wait.... I just got Goku and apparantly Naruto likes Goku better than Luffy" "So much for bringing pirates and ninjas together."

Chya. xD
I honestly never realized how immensely popular One Piece and Naruto were. DBZ I understand, but the rest were semi-shocking.

[K!tKat] Yes, I suppose in Japan they are. 3nodding
But the English dubs of the two are just terrible! gonk Nah, if you watch One Piece on Fox it's pretty terrible, but it's fine on Toonami, and Naruto is also fine on Toonami. And they're both big here too, not just Japan, although here Full Metal Alchemist outweighs One Piece and Naruto in popularity a little.

FMA I understand. And Inuyasha...which I hate with a terrible fiery passion mad ...
Ah, I just hate Naruto's voice. It's just so annoying...I guess it suits his personality somewhat but I just find it terrible.
