Prompt You've just entered Soul Society and would you look at that! People running around, little kids, teenagers, adults, old people, you name it! What you did notice was how they were like ... a family which immediately made you go all nostalgic about your own family... though you can't remember much but you DO remember having one, you remember the feeling of belonging somewhere, finding somebody after a long day to talk to in your own home. So what do you do? Went off to find this place; this family. But how do you do it? Characters involved: Akane (ice_demon_20) Kaede ('Tuchai)

Akane sat on the railing of a small bridge, her legs hanging over the outer sides of it. She stared down at the small stream that ran under the bridge, many thoughts running in her mind. Where was her family and what was she the only one in this district? Was the choice of districts for all souls random or was there a force unseen that prevented blood-related families from being reunited in the after-life?
She kicked her legs gently, making sure that her slippers didn't come off and fall into the stream. She had seen many other souls before but none of them ever stopped to say anything to her. Was she not worth their time or effort to be talked to? Or was it that she was scaring them away with some unseen force or habit that she didn't know that she was doing? Either way, she felt out of place and unwanted in this huge area she wasn't used to calling 'home'. She wished that she was still alive and with her mother and brothers. Sighing slightly, she leaned back a little bit, her hands bracing her body on the railing.

Kaede's walk had brought him farther than usual today. He had come right out of his district and just walked in odd patterns, somehow making landmark notes so he could get back safely. Today wasn't a day where he walked because he liked it, or because he had somewhere to go or someone to see. No, today he was walking because he was thinking over how lonely he was, going back to an empty place every night, waking with no greeting in the morning. What happened to meeting family on the other side? To the promises the priests had made at numerous funerals that the afterlife was where he would meet his family again.
Was religion lying?
He raised his gaze, having been focused on the floor, his neck now twinging slightly from being craned for so long. A girl was sat on the bridge. He stopped and put on a thoughtful expression, before walking up to the bridge and onto it, leaning his arms against the railings on the side she sat just a few centimetres from where she perched. He peered at her out of the corner of his eye, wondering on how to proceed. He peered down at the water. 'Don't jump, miss?'. Did it matter if she did, they were dead anyway. "Are you okay, miss?" He asked finally, keeping his gaze on the glass surfaced water, watching the currents drift past lazily, carrying leaves and other such things along with it.

Akane was so deep in thought that she didn't notice that another sould had wandered nearby her and was standing a few mere inches away from her. She closed her eyes, trying to deciphyr her own thoughts when a voice rang out from nearby. She opened her eyes slightly and gazed beside her to see...a woman? Or was it a man? The sould definetely looked like a woman but the voice sounded masculine-like. She tilted her head to one side, trying to remember what the other soul had asked her. She then remembered and she nodded her head slightly.
"Yeah...I guess," she said, her voice soft. She turned her gaze up at the sky, still kicking her legs. She didn't know what else to say. She had never been talked to by another soul before, not even those in her adopted family.

Kaede kept his concerned gaze on her, not wanting to startle her. If she fell...well, he had no clue on what he would do. Jump after her to save her, he supposed. He didn't put much thought into being spontaneously heroic in all honesty, that and he doubted it would ever happen. It hadn't while he was alive. He smiled encouragingly at her when she finally opened her eyes and looked at him, not wanting to look too pushy or too involved. No need to come across as a creep.
"Something heavy on your mind?" He asked her quietly, wondering if he should just settle. He'd been asked into a family in his district, but he hadn't given them a straight answer. It just...didn't feel at all right, really. He turned and sat on the bridge, still next to her, but with his feet inward and his back facing the way she faced, so he could talk to her and see her face better. He was just unusually concerned and it was bugging him enough that he had to pry just a little. What could have gotten her to such a state of absent-mindedness?

[OOC: sorry about the delay. RL got in the way of my muse]
Akane continued to kick her feet back and forth, alternating each leg so that one was stretched out in front of her every few seconds or so. She stared up at the sky, watching the few clouds float by as she half-listened to the steam below her and half-listened to the other soul that stood beside her. She almost missed hearing his question and she gazed down at him, a curious look on her face. Did she look like she had something heavy on her mind? She figured she might have since he was staring at her with a look of concern. She smiled timidly at him and shook her head slightly. โNot really,โ she said in a soft voice. โI was just thinking of the past and what it might have been like if I hadnโt been killed so early in life.โ She tilted her head a little bit to one side and gazed at the other curiously. โIs something wrong? Am Iโฆ.am I making you nervous?โ she asked him, turning around so that she was facing inside of the bridge rather than out of it and towards the river. She leaned forward as she braced her hands on either side of her body.

Kaede turned and stared at the stream down below, wondering if fish were present in the water. He rested his hands against the side of the bridge, leaning over a little to get a better look, his long hair falling from behind his shoulders and down as well. No fish from what he could see. Darn. He liked fish.
He was waiting for her to weigh him up and see if he was worth replying, he supposed. He had pried into her personal affairs just a little and that was a little rude in his view. But she had looked worried...? Pensive? Upset? He didn't know how to properly categorise it, it wasn't a happy or content look. "Ah. It won't help. I know you can't help but wonder...but dwelling on things in the past isn't good." He said softly, not being cruel, just giving his view in a nice way. "I know I did...I still miss it, but it's nice here." Blathering, that was what he was doing. He turned to look at her when she moved, his brown eyes curious.
"Oh no, I'm fine." Kaede answered with a smile. He wasn't nervous. "It's concern, I suppose. I was wondering if she planned to jump."

Akane tilted her head to one side and gazed at Kaede curiously. This soul surely was a confusing one. She had never been told to not dwell on the past before...yet at the same time she had never been told that she shouldn't dwell on it or that it was a bad thing to do that. Maybe she was too attacted to her old home. Would she ever learn to accept to let go of it? A long time had passed since she had died down on Earth. She doubted that her mother or any of her brothers was still alive. She turned her gaze down at the bottom of the bridge as she lightly kicked her legs back and forth.
Akane gazed over at Kaede quickly when he said that he was wondering if she was planning to jump. "Wondering if who planned to jump?" she asked curiously, wondering if he was talking about her or another person.

Kaede kept his gaze on Akane as she looked at him, not one to blush at being caught staring at someone. He was curious, and worried. Both over the girl sat next to him and the blank patches in his memories. Maybe he was too bold to tell her it was best not to dwell on things, for he was doing it a little himself, but he wasn't obsessing or anything. He brushed a hand through his hair, eyes turning down to stare at the worn planks of the bridge they stood on.
"You." He answered quietly, idly scuffing his sandalled foor against the wood of the planks. "You looked rather sad. I was wondering if the water looked inviting."

Akane tilted her head to one side and gazed at Akane tilted her head a little bit to one side. She continued to gaze at him curiously, wondering if he was being serious or not. Why would she want to jump in the water below them? That wouldn't be a very bright idea at all. That and the water seemed to be too shallow for anyone to properly drown in.
"Nope...at least not right now. Maybe when the weather turns hotter it might look inviting," she said. "Though not in a suicidal sort of way," she added hastily, not wanting Kaede to get the wrong idea with her statement.
