I am pretty big fan of Castlevaina Symphony of the night myself.
Alucard from SoTN is probably the most effeminate bad a** I can stand playing as.

The Castlevania series is classic. The Bloodrayne series is awesome, too. Darkwatch was another badass vampire game.

Ah, Legacy of Kain, another awesome series. Thank you for reminding me, as I'd forgotten all about it.

I prefer the Soul Reaver titles in the series, myself, although Defiance was a work of art.

Absolutely loved the original Legacy of Kain title.
The others started to become far more catered to a puzzle type of play.
I never gotten beyond the first Soul Reaver.
I did enjoy the twisted little story arches each game presented.
I feel bad that I don't want to finnish the games but I was getting a bit burnt out on them. However I do wish to know what went on in them. I hear Yanos Ordrin makes an appearance. Here I thought a vampire with a missing heart equaled a dead vampire.

Indeed. As the series progressed, it came to include more and more puzzle-solving, especially in the Soul Reaver games. However, Defiance, the fifth and final installment in the series, balances puzzle-solving and fighting very nicely. It is also the only game in which you play as both Kain and Raziel.

Janos does make an appearance. In fact, he plays a major role in the story. The Legacy of Kain series involves a lot of time travel and twists, which is why Janos is dead in some titles and not in others. It all comes together in Defiance, in which Kain and Raziel resolve their rivalry and finally fulfill their destinies. It was truly a great story and a great series.
