Greenflayme Here Is a forum for, you guessed it, Tarot cards, Tarot Readings, So on and so forth. Talk about different layouts, different decks, Different readings you have given people, Whether you think tarot are accurate, Pretty much anything you want to discuss. Please stay on topic though ^^ Well I had a Tarot table during a festival at school where I gave every person that came up to me a reading with my mom's Aquarius Tarot deck. I had them concentrate on questions and search for the answers in the cards, some of the questions were obscure, but they were all answered. One girl asked what color her underwear was and the cards answered correctly..."blue"... it was weird.

An interesting variation on reading I have found is to use a regular Rider-Waite-Smith deck and then alongside, shuffled in or overlaid, a Tarot of the New Vision deck. This latter deck has the same pictures as the RWS but the viewpoint is turned 180 degrees. For example, on the court cards you see what is carved into the backs of the thrones and the faces of the people standing before the dais, on the Magician you see that he has an audience and on the Fool you see what is beyond the cliff he stands on. I was reading for someone once and the six of cups came up - two children in a garden. The New Vision deck has virtually the same scene but there is a spirit figure in the sky of the picture. I took this to mean the grandfather of the questioner was watching over her.... I found out later that her grandpa had just passed into the spirit lands. One of those 'wow' moments.

Here's a link to pix of some of the cards in that deck I was talking about:

Aeclectic is a good site to go browse deck imagery. It has forums, reviews, all sorts of tarot-related information.

Could you post what deck you have? Did it come with a full-size book or just a little pamphlet? Otherwise, a good, standard beginning is this online course: http://www.learntarot.com/The course is available as a book, too. I'll post up some not-so-traditional techniques for tarot when I get a chance.

Okay, I ran that to ground. Near as I can tell you have a Tarot Nova, or at least that's the name I read for it. Simple pictures on black backgrounds? I pulled up pictures and....well....okay. I would start with it by associating a fairly simple concept with each card - like calling the 4 of pentacles 'the Miser' and the 6 of cups 'childhood'. Write these in a journal with space to let the concepts grow as you practice and learn -if you need further keywords the learntarot site has a card-by-card list you can reference. Try a 3-card spread with yesterday-today-tomorrow and string the concepts together to make a story rather than just pulling one card.
Let us know how you do!

well the yesterday today and tomorrow part sounds familiar. my deck says to place 4 cards down. 1 that is supposed to state your problem or the cards are going to be talking about. then the 3 cards represent the past, present, and a way to help guide you through your problem. Do other read their cards like that, or did my new deck lie to me? it seems to be going real well for me. I did it once, and me and my friend read the cards to eachother (the instructions told us how to read them to other people ) and i was able to figure out a problem she was having and visa versa without telling eachother our problems, it was pretty cool. are they supposed to do that??
sorry for typing a lot.

I think the tarot cards can be read pretty much in almost any way you want, or at least that's how I do it. If you and your friend managed to get a good vision of each other's problems, I think you're doing it fine. And it might mean that you and your friend are close enough 3nodding As for me, I usually make the celtic cross because that one gives me a very broad view of the problem at hand. And once I want some more specific information or help, I change for a 4 cards spread to get a bit more insight. Have any of you ever realized that diferent decks have diferent personalities? My Faeries' Oracle is very kind and comforting, always giving me support no matter the problem and never giving me a harsh answer, while my Dragons' tarot is very straight to the point, without a lot of subtlety. I've realized also that the more you use a deck, the more it comes to know you and feel comfortable with each other.

Well, there are tarot decks with diferent designs, and sometimes there are even tarots that have only the minor arcana (cups, coins, swords, maces) and not the major (Fool, Magician, etc.) My faerie's oracle haves none of them, being something diferent than a tarot but still a way to read luck and fate. And what I mean with being more comfortable with each other, is that the way you read the cards improves with practice because you learn the way that a specific deck speaks. Uhm... like, you understand more the way the cards are spread, you understand which cards are stronger (even if it's not something written in the books), and also the deck gives you more acurate and specific answers because it comes to know you.
