Hey fellow empaths, I don't know about ya'll but do you ever feel overwhelmed with dealing with others emotions or pains? Sometimes I do. I figured this would be a good thread where we all could talk about experiences and weird occurrences. I've had my fair share and I'm sure some of you have. Feel free to talk.

I do sometimes, but I'm even more so an angry, cold-hearted, bitter b***h. I have too many of my own issues to deal with than to worry about others'.

I'm a very level headed person, with more common sense than most of the general public combined. Many people come to me for advice, but I have to make sure I don't take on their worries and problems. If I did, I'd have been dead by now from the stress. ^_^;

I have a friend who's an empath and she has a really hard time with it sometimes. It can be difficult, especially at first because you don't know where all these emotions came from. It takes awhile to realize they aren't your own, according to her.

My girlfriend and her mum are both stressed from doing the minimester at school and I've been picking up on it alot. As such for the past two weeks I've had horrible stomachaches and....running to the bathroom alot if you catch my drift. It really sucks.

Everyone has a certain capacity for empathy. Some of us are more sensitive than others. I tend to get overwhelmed in malls and such around the holidays. Everyone is a whirlwind of crazy energy and it starts to take its toll.
For someone who is terribly receptive to this, you must learn to shield yourself and learn to take a stance of compassionate detachment.
Shielding is based in visualization in order to affect the energy around you. I tend to see a mirror around me reflecting everything away from me when it gets to be too much. Otherwise, I try to see leaves that absorb the energy and roots to sink it back into the earth. Either way, it's a means of keeping most of it off me.
Compassionate detachment means "being able to step back within myself and listen compassionately without personally engaging. Imagine watching a emotionally stirring movie without becoming one of the characters in the story. In that way you can view things through the eyes of love and appreciation as you witness people’s life journey." [Compassionate detachment article]
Being engaged and yet not absorbing all of someones pain is important. Learn from it. Help them to heal by sharing it.

In the end, it's all a little different for everyone. I hope this helps.

There was this time i kept tabs on a suicidal friend of mine. His name was David ((No, not ButterflyKiss Me)) and he would try to suffocate himself. Well at one time when i lost signal on my phone when he was crying and while i was trying to call him back, i could feel his emotions. Well when i tried to connect with him and glance over through his eyes, i could see him reaching for the bag he used to try and suffocate himself in. So i panicked and called my sister for help. Luckily her phone was working, and she stopped him again.

Also last summer my brother had to go through surgery. So while he was waiting to into surgery i felt all of his fear and his scared thoughts, all of his worries, and questions. >.< So i kept a close close close eye on him. I even tried my best to stay connected with im through the surgery to keep tabs on his breathing and all. He came out ok, but i was still panicked, and scared with him.
