Dead trees leaned across the path the three yearlings were following. Lotus led the way; ears perked forward, his steps high and careful. This was where he had come up to last time, before his young nerves had failed him and he’d scampered home. Icefall Mountain loomed ahead of them, deadly and dark. However the idea of the dangers that lurked ahead didn’t even cross his mind. This sprit of adventure made his mind focus on the desire to reach the top of the mountain. Such an adventure!

The air was already getting colder. The incline was getting steeper as Lotus strode along, his steps precise, whereas earlier he had stumbled after being caught daydreaming; now he was focused. “I think it’ll take a while to reach the top.” He said to the others once he had clambered up a steep, little rocky barrier. Turning, he leaned over the edge carefully to give his sister some help.

“We might have to stay the night halfway up.”

Lazuli looked around eyes open wide not a sense of fear around her. Everything new was fascinating and fresh, fear was something she hadn't yet mastered. Chalk it up to her being young or possibly naive which ever she followed her brother with no trouble using his aid whenever he helped her. "Zuli stay with brother." She confirmed moving up the rocky ledge along side him to get a better look. "We see glen from here if we move up mountain more? Hurry Zeta we go higher, explore mountain together!" She smiled noting how her brother took up the front and Zeta the rear, it gave her added comfort to know they were watching out for her though she wasn't worried. What could a mountain do but sit there?

The weather had been completely perfect and bright up until the actual point of them starting up the path of the mountain. Heck, there wasn't even a path. This little yearlings would have to make their own, and force they're way up this mountain the best they could. Zeta's main focus was making sure both of the others remained safe since they had brought him long for a reason. Already his young little hooves could feel the agony of having to travel all the way up to the very top, but he couldn't back out now. They were already well on their way, and Zeta just leaving them by themselves just wouldn't make him a very good friend. Well, at least Zeta thought they were all friends. They definitely weren't enemies, like him and Lucio, that's for sure.

As the three youthful Herla's struggled a bit up a rocky slope, the blue Herla thought it was kinda neat how Lotus assisted Lazuli in the front and how Zeta kept a watchful eye in the back. When they made it passed that obstetrical he could already tell he was going to be all achy by the end of the night, and it didn't help that they would have to be sleeping on the mountain, without their parents protection. Zeta only shrugged this off and reminded himself that he was their protection. He wouldn't let anything happen to these new found companions. "Right, Lazuli. We probably could." His little twig like legs lifted him up the mountain, him guarding Lazuli's back. "Hey, Lotus," he called out from behind the yearlings sister as he leaned a bit to catch a glimpse of him. "What's suppose to be so dangerous about this stupid little mountain?" He tried to make the journey seem less threatening by calling it degrading names.

Lotus’ ears flickered back, indicating he had heard and was listening to Zeta, however he didn’t take his eyes off the rocky slope he was now trying to scale. His muscles were young a

nd strong, but it still, it was going to start being a struggle sooner or later. “Uh... it’s dangerous because of how cold it gets, making the rocks easy to slip off.” That sounded correct, even if the information had been gathered through him listening in on adult conversations while standing there with a dreamy look on his face.

“We just have to be really careful about where we step, okay?” He knew this adventure was dangerous, that was a part of what had drawn him here, however the thought of really getting hurt hadn’t crossed his mind yet. It didn’t seem possible. Great heroes never fell off cliffs.

Coming to a halt the yearling studied what was ahead and then angled right, towards what looked like somewhat more flat, stable ground. He ducked beneath the branch of a dead tree, the twisted truck growing straight out of the rocks.

Lazuli listened between the two not picking up on how dangerous the mountain could get right away. For now her mind was set on the adventure and possible fun they could have getting to the top. While it got cold and could be slippery; falling off a mountain side never crossed her mind. For now she felt protected having her brother and Zeta there.

As they continued down what couldn't really pass as a pathway, her eyes were open to all the sights around her. A few bushes here and there with creatures that skittered into the brush once the yearlings got near. "Brother look look! Small creature things ran in the bushes." Heading over she nosed at the bush curious to see the creatures up close but all she got was a small murder of crows that scattered from the few trees over head cawing at the yearling for making such a racket. Looking up at the crows she hadn't seen before she nudged Zeta insistantly. "What birds are those?"

The yearling who displayed a dark blue coat was very good at following the others. His eyes remained open and clearly on high alert. The vegetation that was around them looked very melancholy and that only brought his paranoia out even more. You see, Zeta wasn't a big fan of Herla getting hurt. Well, so long as they're his friends. He wouldn't take a second glance at Lucio or his evil sister Averyl if they just so happened to tumble off a slippery cliff. Heck, Zeta would probably do the honor of shoving them off. Some of these thoughts danced through the back of his mind and the young Herla couldn't help but smirk and snicker at them.

When Lazuli spoke up Zeta's ears flicked a bit and he had to shake his little head of all the fluffy harmless daydreams he was having. Once he registered her words he couldn't help but feel a sense of fear somewhere inside himself. "Lazuli, you don't know what could be in those-" then a flock of crows scattered, cutting off his words. He tensed up and glared at the cackling crows. "Little- ... freakin' .... gr..." He complained about their suddenness and they way they laughed with their caws. He felt a nudge and that was followed by a simple question. "Uh... I think I heard an adult talking about them. They're not very nice. I think they called them... er..." he really didn't know what they were called so he just made up a name for them. "Caaawbirds.... Cawburds... that's it. Caw-Burds..." He hoped Lotus didn't in fact know what they were called and corrected him. Zeta hated being corrected.
