User ImageAs much as Hadaya was growing to love his son, considering he was finally getting used to the idea that he was a father now, he found himself in need of a little bit of a break. Knowing Dura would be perfectly looked after by his friends in the pride, the adult lion escaped a bit early in the morning, before the cub had woken up.

He would be back before then, too, hopefully.

Padding outside the pridal lands, the yellowish-brown lion made his way to no where in particular. Maybe he would try and find some new meat for his little boy to try, though, there wasn't much out here that couldn't be found in the pride itself. And Hadaya was not exactly the most adept hunter, despite taking the title on as his duty. Frowning thoughtfully, he wandered with his head down, not watching where he was going.

As usual.

Adet closed her eyes as she walked, a light breeze ruffling her fur. Her paws shuffled cautiously as she moved forward and slightly to the right, but she thought she was moving forwards. She hummed to herself and smiled.

After a few minutes of opening her eyes once in a while, fearing she would run into something, she decided she would keep her eyes shut as long as she could, just to see if she was able to. She leapt up into the air occasionally, just to prove to herself it was not impossible.

Of course, she didn't expect someone to be in her path as she jumped. At least not a lion that was a bit bigger than she was.

Hadaya lifted his head in time to see something in a blur of motion. He didn't know what the motion was, but his subconscious reacted as it always did: danger! Run away! Though the lion had been working very hard on being less of a wuss, it was difficult to break with old habits. Plus, he wasn't as good at standing his ground as he was running away.

With a yelp that was much higher pitched than the male lion would have liked to hear issuing from his own throat, Hadaya hauled himself backwards, turning around in a circle while his back feet remained in place. He avoided crashing into her head on, but his butt was still in a bad position.

Losing his balance, his back legs gave out and he went with them, rolling onto his back defenselessly and hoping the other lion, or what he assumed was a lion because he hadn't bothered to look, wouldn't rip him open from tummy to neck.

Adet opened her eyes when Hadaya yelped and did much the same, flailing in the air as she began to land from her jump. All she saw was a blur of brown as she tumbled into the dust, landing rather awkwardly towards the end of her roll.

There she sat, front shoulder on the ground with her rump in the air looking rather dazed. She shook her head to clear it, having much difficulty with the motion thanks to the ground, and quickly remembered the blur of brown she'd caught a glimpse of.

She jumped up, landing semi-deftly on her paws and saw Hadaya on his back, she cautiously approached him and pawed at him, just to make sure she hadn't scared him to death!

"A-are you o-okay?"

Hadaya watched the lioness approach, sighing in relief. She didn't look like she was about to attack him. She had 'I'm going to ask if you're okay' face on her as she came nearer. It was an expression he had quite gotten used to seeing on others, and was a master at recognizing. Letting his paws go limp, his back legs splayed awkwardly and his front paws resting on his stomach, he held his head up so he could watch her.

When she pawed him he offered her a goofy grin, looking completely unsure of himself and thoroughly embarrassed, but also doing his best to hide both things. He wasn't doing a very good job of either.

"I'm okay! I'm sorry I scared you out of the sky, though," he said, finally rolling to his side and then getting to his feet. Bits of grass and leaves clung to his fur, and though he shook his body they did not come loose.

"Are you okay?" he added, almost forgetting to ask.

She took a step backwards as he stood up and shook off. She noticed the leaves and grass still sticking to him but was too intimidated to help him remove any of it.

She shrunk back a little, feeling dwarfed by the large male, "N-no, it's fine. I should have been watching where I was going. Just took a little tumble. Nothing to worry about, I assure you." She had stuttered on a few words but was slowly gaining comfort and confidence talking to him.

She sat down about 4 feet from where he stood, trying to keep a safe yet still friendly distance from him.

Hadaya nodded, not too convinced that she was as okay as she said. He wasn't used to people being intimidated around him, considering how he acutely lacked anything worthy of sparking such an emotion. He was big, sure, but in a lanky, fluffy way. He rarely growled, and when he did it was out of self preservation rather than to scare anyone else. He didn't roar all that often, either. Not much of a fighter, he lacked the grace and skill required to have any kind of reputation. He was simply Hadaya, a kind of goofy hunter who wasn't really great at his job.

"Okay, well, that's good. I guess we're both okay, then," he smiled disarmingly, one of the few things he was innately good at, "I uh, I wasn't scared, just so you now. I was... resting... on my back... and you happened to... jump at me right when I was... laying down. Yeah."

He cleared his throat, knowing he had looked like a goon and there was no real way to cover that. "Anyway," he said in a friendly tone, "I'm Hadaya. What were you... doing? Bouncing?"

Adet smiled awkwardly, "Of course, I never thought for a moment I had scared you. You, uh, you didn't scare me either, I was merely trying to not land on you," she shook her head vigorously. She stood and shook out her fur, yawning a little.

"I'm Adetokunbo, but please call me Adet. It's nice to meet you," she paused realizing how silly she must have looked. "I was, uh, practicing...pouncing...? Y-yea, that's it. I was trying to pounce as quietly as I could."

"I didn't? That's good! That makes us two completely not scared lions, which are great things to be, I think. Go us!" He grinned broadly. It was easier to feel like less of a goon when his company was trying to do the same thing. At least now he could comfortably tease them both, instead of just berating himself. Though, really, it probably wasn't the best social move to tease either of them, but he was not the best at forward thought.

"Adet. Okay, that I can remember. I'm... not the best with names so I'd probably forget Adetoku... uhm. Damn it."

He shook his head, smiling again. His soft brown eyes flickered and he nodded, not really believing that was what she was doing but not one to question her about it. Well familiar with making excuses for his behavior sometimes, he could recognize the tactic in others. Or, at least he thought he could. A lot of times it turned out he was wrong in his assumptions.

"That's cool, though! I don't think I'm a very quiet pouncer. I didn't hear you coming though, so you've got more skill there than I do. Maybe you should be a hunter for my pride, instead of me!" He laughed, then realized he just made it sound like he was terrible at his job, "not that... I mean, I can hunt. I'm just. I'm not bad. I'm just. Uh. Nevermind."

"Right!" Adet giggled "Go us for not being scared!" she smiled at Hadaya and purred a little. She liked him, he wasn't as scary as she thought he would be!

She tilted her head, "It's okay, my name's kinda long. That's why I have people call me Adet."

"I'm sure you're a good hunter, you probably scare your prey stiff in it's tracks! Not that you scared me, but you are kinda big," she paused, "You're in a pride? What's that like? I've been a rogue my whole life so I've never known what pride life is like."

Grinning, Hadaya nodded. He was glad she didn't seem mad at him for anything! Usually he had a problem with saying the wrong thing, and accidentally insulting the other lions he met out in the rogue lands. Particularly after crashing into them. But she seemed nice, and that was a relief.

He grinned at her words. They were so far from the truth it actually hurt a little, but he still thought it was nice of her to say it.

"I'm in the Simbafutaji pride. We live by the ocean, and like to gather information. I'm, uh, a hunter. I live there with my son, Dura. I was a wanderer most of my life, but I was found when I was younger by a very nice family in the pride, and they allowed me to join. I think pride life is nice. Not really all that different, really, except now I'm... staying in one place. Ha!"

He shook his head. Of course staying in one place made it VERY different, but it had already tumbled out his mouth and he couldn't take it back now.

She sat and listened to his story, smiling a little. "I think staying in one place would make life more enjoyable. Not having to worry where you'll sleep every night or if you have water," she paused, thinking, "Yea, that would be nice."

"I wandered around more when I was younger, I kept to myself mostly though, never formed any friendships or alliances that would last more than a few days," she frowned slightly, "but sometimes that's just what you have to do to make sure you survive."

Hadaya nodded, thoughtful.

He loved his home, he really did. Everyone there seemed to get along so well, and there was always a sense of peace and calm around the place. Maybe it was the water. Or maybe the overall want of knowledge and understanding from the pride itself. Whatever it was, the awkward lion had found a home there, despite all his faults. If they could like him despite his bumbling and awkwardness, then it had to be an honestly good place.

Right?

He tilted his head at her.

"I was like that, too," he said with a nod. "I'm still pretty bad at making friends. But I guess it still gets easier with time, even if you're not good at it at the start," he laughed a bit, mostly at himself. "But yeah, it is about survival, isn't it? I think that's a good thing about prides, too. Everyone takes care of each other, so it becomes less about just trying to make it through the days and... starting to have time to, you know, actually enjoy them. I think?"

She nodded, partly understanding what he was getting at. It'd be nice to have the kind of freedoms to enjoy days as they passed than to spend them worrying. “How long have you been with your pride, Hadaya? And you seem much better at making friends than I,” she smiled sweetly at him. She liked him, despite his awkwardness he was kind and gentle.

Yea, definitely not as scary as she'd thought.

"How long have I..." he frowned. He thought back. it had been quiet the interesting situation back then, when he had come to the pride. He had been a young lion then, just a little thing, when his adoptive family had taken him in. They were too kind.

He shook his head.

"I've been here for pretty much as long as I want to remember. Everything before coming to my pride didn't really matter," he shook his head. It was true. He didn't really like a lot of the memories that came from before the Simbafutaji, save meeting a few friends.

"Not that I'm old or anything," he added as an afterthought.
