In real life I ran a Pagan Discussion group for several years. We met virtually every week, moving when the New Age store we began in closed, disbanding when construction made getting to the Borders at the mall difficult. We covered many topics, both light-hearted and serious, exchanged ideas from many paths from the famous to the obscure, and considered many of the areas close to our faiths. A great variety of pagans came to the group, some regularly, some sporadically, all leaving their thoughts with everyone else to consider.
So, let's see if we can make this work here on Gaia. This opening thread is to post topic/activity suggestions as well as to cover my ground rules.
*Be respectful of the views of others - pagan perspectives, backgrounds and experiences vary widely. *Please do not tag-team anyone, balance assent and dissent; this is not a competition. *Not everyone has access to as many books/references as everyone else and bear in mind that books may just be another person's (the author's) opinion, as well. *Share ideas but bear in mind that at no point do I want this to develop into a debate. This isn't about 'right' and 'wrong' opinions. I reserve the right to modify the guidelines when necessary.
Welcome and Blessed Be. H.

Even as I wrote in my own study thread this evening I was thinking about Gods....and good discussion topics: Are the Gods and Goddesses the same today as when their stories were first written down? What is the nature of deity? You believe in a God or Gods - what relationship do your Gods have to the Gods of someone else? Do the Gods that other people believe in exist? What sort of spirits do you believe in?

One thing people don't think about much when they consider their own beliefs: what do they then need from the group spiritual experience? Do they need a group at all? What function do you think a spiritual leader should fulfill? Does the culture you come from color your expectations? Do the historical roles of priests/ministers/clergy impact your thoughts at all?
I have often found that people have not considered their own needs in connection with religion.

i find you to be very coreect. i think that to. i feel that over time something may influence some one. but i think that ultimately. it is the role of the individual to look and see what it is they believe in. i joined the group to learn from you who might have answers that i could not find on my own.

Hopefully you won't have even more questions when you're done! Perhaps you will have better questions, and a few 'answers'.....But one of the best things I have learned is that I am never done looking for information, never done learning, ever walking the path.

We are starting to get specific discussions developing from the main Group topics. This is fabulous! At this rate we will need to start subforums to keep things organized....[hint, hint] By all means, make your interests known so that we keep things busy. Don't anyone be shy!
Hmmmm - suddenly we have aquariums showing up in the guild forum.....Will we be playing booty grab here, too?

The Discussion Group threads are for us to compare, contrast, consider...our beliefs. With this in mind please do not worry about saying something, well, "right." This isn't a test, this isn't geared towards steering anyone toward a specific point of view. Yes, I have my beliefs and opinions but they are no better than anyone else's though I may have been walking the path awhile. My vision is to provide a safe haven for people to Discuss their beliefs, to ask questions and to develop along the Pagan path. Be as verbose as you wish even as you put up with my flights of mystery and we will all have some good conversations. The inspiration for my posting this reassurance is that little question I have seen a few times, something like: "am I doing/saying this right?' Of course you are.
