I love most genres that scream, but i really hate, hate, HATE when people label a genre as "screamo". It is not a genre. Its like lumping emo, hardcore, grindcore, metalcore, post-hardcore, metal and all its subgenres, thrash, experimental, etc all together. How can people but emmure and senses fail in the same genre.

Whenever I use the word 'screamo', it's more to generalize that i like any newer-age punk rock, which 95% of the time screams.

Screamo is actually a legitimate genre, it's just such an abused term that it's been deprived of its meaning. If you'd like to listen to screamo, Circle Takes The Square, City Of Caterpillar, and Orchid are all fantastic bands.

i think most people call it "screamo" because they are probably not interested in learning all the sub-genres.. they just know that they aren't interested in music where the singer screams.... doesn't "screamo" kind of make sense???

hahah thats true.. i don't know.. i guess when i hear "screamo" i think of bands where there actually isnt any singing.. just jibberish/gargling/demonic-possessed noises... i do like bands that have a singer who ACTUALLY sings.. and does the screaming thing for parts of the song.. ya know? i know it must take a whole other kid of talent to scream like that for a set.... i just prefer hearing the lyrics wink
thank you for the lesson though! im quite under-educated in the metal-ish musical genre smile
give me more! who do you think i would like to hear? im always looking for new tunes to fill up my head and get obsessed with...

Its a legitimate sub genre. It surfaced to describe newage music which contain mixtures of genres. For some reason, people don't like to categorizes music into "actual" genres if its a bit different and/or reformed. Perhaps, its used a bit too fluently. But saying a band doesn't fit into a genre because its too "wimpy" and doesn't comply with all of the genres characteristics is a bit puzzling. Thats like saying you like all indie music, simply because it was located under the indie tag.

"screamo" came along at the same time the scene did. cuz first the scene got emo mixed up and started saying emo was pop-punk bands like fall out boy, then they started referring to true emo bands as "screamo", thinking this underground genre was something new, then as the emo fad started to fad they just started calling all bands that scream "screamo".
