do you think that 2012 is being blown way out of proportion just like all other apocalipse scares? Or do you think there's truth behind it somewhat?

Yeah kids at my school say that the world will end on 12/21/2012 but has no idea why. I think its just another superstitious apocalipes scare like Y2K and 06/06/06. I still don't know the reason why yet so it could be but I still need to substanciate it

i guess the fear is based off of the Ancient Mayan calender. it's predicted astronomical events very accuratly over the course of it's being. but what has everyone in an uproar is that the calanders last date is said to be December 21, 2012. so they naturally think that the world, or life as we know it, will end that day. others refuse to think this, saying that it's only a spiritual ending. a day when our society will enter it's next phase of spiritual development.. what ever that means exactly. others say that since it's in a circle, the calender just repeats itself. you can believe what you want, just dont get sucked into the nonsense and do something stupid like take out a huge loan in november of 2012 and buy a boat. the only thing that i predict to happen is that i will be sitting at home on December 22 laughing because nothing happened.

It's the end of the b'ak'tun long cycle, but hardly the end of the calendar system, which stretches in both directions at least several million years.
The 2012 doomsday prediction involved a little bit of astrology, a little bit of mythology, and a lot of stupid New Age potheads making stuff up.

I don't worry about all the hype about 2012. If that's the year the world is meant to end then oh well, not much we can do to stop it. But I am doubting that's the year that the world ends.

What I heard is that the "end of the world" starts there, or something stupid like that. I did see a History Channel show on it and some scientist said that it's supposed to indicate a "polar shift" of some sort, whereas the magnetic field of the Earth shifts in reverse. Personally, I don't see how that can be apocalyptic, but that's just what I heard. I don't think it's the end of the world.

My kind-of theory: 12/12/2012 just happens to be where they were in crafting calendars when the civilization died out.
I could start making a calendar, die next week and I just happen to be writing down date X, and because no one really knows how I died, they see X as a potentially hazardous date.

What do you mean by beginning and ending on the same day? But anyway, what I heard about the date was that this. That somehow the sun is post to be in a certain position to where we can see the whole milky way. I don't know how that is possible, but its said that this will be either the first time in alot of years or the first tiem its ever happened. 3nodding
