~The Great Survivalist War~

There were rumblings in the archways of the long drawn out halls of The Mordecai Manor in 1321. The Werewolves, they had began to want to govern themselves. One of their leaders pack instinct seemingly evolved into one that would have more democratic approach. The creation of a unified nation of beast that could contend with the Vampires reign of power. This rumor lead to a meeting between the heads of a small fellowship of vampires from various regions.

"We cannot lay on our backs as these beast threaten to take our way of civilization away from us!" Mordecai, the strongest of them all, shouted with his hands pounding the table to punctuate his dissatisfaction. He was the eldest, an original of the first family of their kind. Thus, his hatred for the others stemmed from the indigenous years of hunting along side the beast for survival.

"Mordecai, father, if we made peace, perhaps we could potentially have a system that benefits Vampire, Human, and Werewolf alike." Roland, the direct descendant of Mordecai and third in command, was the peacefully nature vampire. As an ambassador to the human and wolf kind; he presented a liberal view of the matter to all.

"My true son would never bend so much as to kiss the asses of the other kind, Roland" Mordecai interjected.

Noticing the tension, the lone female head of the original conciliate and the representative of the African/Middle Eastern region, Minnah rose her voice over the rumblings of the men. "The ultimate goal of our decision should be to have our kind survive! Which ever means we take are not of our own choosing! Understand that there are third parties amongst us...some ever of our own kind...who want the vampire to fail. More information must be gathered before we take a decisive strike."

As their arguments echoed through the cold dark halls, Anthony waited outside of their meeting room. As the Commander of the Vampire forces, he listened diligently along with the other generals by his side. Looking to his men, he spoke in a hushed voice, "War is on the way; Roland has no grounds to make his point seem valid and Minnah...Mordecai hates her kind. Also, both Dougal and Alwin say nothing; they have been bought by our master. Ready your blades, ready your minds, ready your hearts; many of us are soon to face death."

Ultimately, Anthony was correct. War ensued. The vampire forces were expecting the battle their side favorably because of the human influence they had. However, as time went on and more humans betrayed them, the war went on for years longer...hundreds of years. The constantly skirmishes and small outbreaks of war battered the grounds of the world from Europe to the furthest reaches of northern Asia. In snow or rain, in night or day even. Humans fought humans, vampires battle the werewolves for the sake of survival.

~The Aftermath~

There was peace, for hundreds of year. Vampires, Werewolves, and Humans coexisted with each other giving and taking as each saw fit to make sure that no new war came to be. New laws were set in place for the Vampires and Werewolves; strict rules. Many were able to live their lives simply however, the feasting on human flesh was no longer allowed in mass as it once was.

During the beginning of the 1800's a rebellion takes place under the name of The Lilac Sun. Four hundred humans are murdered and fifteen small towns in Italy are destroyed and burned down. All the bodies of the victims went completely missing. The new Council hears of an anarchist believing leader going against his teaching to bring chaos upon the world again. The Werewolves are beginning to unify once again as well because their numbers suddenly diminished during a period of infighting.

Now, it is 1888, and the stability of old is seeming to unravel. Where will this new generation lead their kind to face in the future?

~Plot~

It is 1888 in the Victorian era and all of Britain is bustling with a great industrial revolution, Darwin has many questioning their existence, and Jack The Ripper roams White Chapel hunting for his next prostitute for a victim. During this time The Council is preparing for their next meeting in London's parliament in order to discuss the issues present. Young "undocumented" vampires are on the loose in Britain causing havoc and expanding the population of vampires to a number that some of The Council is not comfortable with. In order to deal with this problem, The Council has unleashed its six headhunters to kill the nuisance.

After years of gathering information on the undocumented vampires the name of the group was discovered in 1805: The House of the Lilac Sun. They also discovered that it had four head members and a number of underlings. It was also to be said that werewolves meandered in and out of the organization in order to make business deals with the rouge house of vamps.

However The Council agrees that the house causes a problem with their authority, some members believe that it is completely acceptable and that the house could be used as a political tool. Thus, a rift was made between the council and consequentially the headhunters as well.

~Classifications~

*Headhunters: Are a group of six vampires who act as the personal assassins for the Council. Each has a different personalities, backgrounds, and abilities. They are the warrior class of the vampiric royalty and operate as a knight would to its king, which is, in this case, the Council.
-[0] Spot(s) available

*Lilac Sun Leaders: Vampires who are essentially rouges and outcast from the royal vampires and aren’t registered (they don’t want to be). Lead by one, they are far different from the Headhunters and royalty in the way they talk and dress. They each possess abilities yet they aren’t nearly as refined as the Headhunters however; they have numbers with the amount of underlings they could potentially hold.

-Underlings: servants to the leaders of the lilac; pawns.

*The Council: The Leaders of all registered vampires and their affairs. They tell them when and what they can feed on, who is executed, how they are executed, and by whom (they are known to give forsaken vamps to the werewolves as a…gift). They also have influence with human politicians. The Council members have abilities yet since they are much older than the other vampires it is rare for them to get involved with battle.
- [0] Spot(s) available

Werewolves: In order to keep their numbers from dwindling, they have agreed to work with the royal vampires and rouge vampires to keep from constant battle. The Werewolves are the strongest and fastest of the group physically yet they lack numbers to take on the vampires. So, they have begun dealing with both sides of the vampires in underground trading and human trafficking.

Humans: Are very important to all four of the groups. They are the basic ingredient to each groups political and food chains. A human has the potential to become a vampire or werewolf depending on where their storyline brings them. Humans can also potentially kill a vampire or werewolf if they are skilled enough.

Other: Please specify, (must be approved)

*- Are members of the vampire race.

~The messenger - A Prelude~

All watched in shock as the messenger sped into the stables with his head barely hanging by strands of skin, bone, and nerves. It was horrendous sight, his blood soaked the rear of his panicked and his hand tightly clinched onto the note he was sent to return to The Council’s Manor. The human was just another victim to the tension that was building in London and the rest of Europe because of these new scoundrels that had appeared.

“His head!” Shouted one of the stable workers; he soon broke into a dead sprint down the hall that lead to the main room of the manor. “It’s gone! His head is gone!”

Jumping from their stationary positions in the Manor’s study, Teshiruu, Rose, and Garreth instantly made their way to the stables; the stench ran into their noses immediately as the enter the hall leading there. Upon arriving, many of the stable workers were attempting to calm the horses that panicked at the sudden shock that overcame the area. Garreth, ignoring the crazed horse, ripped the letter from the messengers hand and proceeded to open it.

His eyes scanned over the notes, taking in every detail that had any useful information about the whereabouts of some Lilac members. Rose and Teshiruu watched him patiently waiting for any word as his the expression on his face grew more sullen with each second. Finally, after a moment, Garreth lifted his head to look at the two of them.

“Find, the b*****d that decided to be so bold as to degrade our grounds with this human filth!” He ordered with a booming voice as he was already on his way to The Council Chamber.

****

Orders were followed and within an hour of getting them, Rose and Teshiruu where on the tail of a rouge vampire who smelled of the same blood that painted the messenger’s horse. Roof top to roof top, the duo of headhunter’s prowled after their prey in leaps and bounds over and through obstacles. It was entertaining for them to see such a spectacle as a normal street vampire think he could get away.

Chuckling, Rose drew her iron sword while running full speed, “It’s been sometime since I’ve had the chance to chase another vampire with the intent to harm them.” Jumping into the air with Teshiruu following, the leaped into a different route to disguise themselves from the vampire they were chasing.

Teshiruu looked to Rose as he caught up to her pace and smiled at her comment. It had been a long time and it would be appropriate to take the funniest courses available in the chase. So, Teshiruu grabbed an inclined wire and slid down it to land in front of the vampire who was running on the building He just landed on. Behind Tesh, across another few buildings, was a zone where vampires could not enter; it was a zone where werewolves live. Entering it without prior arrangement would potentially break treaty. Seeing this, Teshiruu grinned, “So close to freedom.”

It wasn’t long before Tesh was carrying the unconscious vampire back to Rose who stood on the other side of the building watching the spectacle. She tilted her head and sighed, “Yet, I don’t remember it being as easy as this. We’ll take him back and have Allren deal with getting answers out of him. Garreth and the others will be pleased that we brought him back alive.”

The vampire was conscious by time they arrived at the Manor, he was tied and gagged as he was being dragged by his hair by Teshiruu. Loud groans and moans escaped his mouth as he began to realize where he was. He’d heard stories about this place—a place where you did not return if captured and if you did you mind was nearly gone as a warning to all who threatened to overthrow the Council. Eventually, he was able to get the gag out of his mouth, “SPARE ME! BY ANTHONY’S NAME SPARE ME!”

Stopping, Teshiruu looked behind him to see Rose stomp the vampire in the throat once he mentioned her father. “You shall not speak his name” With that, the vampire was gagging once more at the pain that and he was sent to the lair of Allren.

For days, in random hours of the night, the manor was filled with the faint echoes of a man screaming. Howls of torture and streams of information leaked into the minds and hands of all who resided there. For Rose, Garreth and any of the other veterans of that Great War, it all sounded very familiar.

Allren laughed as he put down a bloodied scalpel and removed a pair of blood stained gloves and threw them into a container full of an unusual liquid that reeked of alcohol. "Rayla take those away and have them cleaned!" Allren also removed a blood stained shirt and threw it at Rayla who caught it and picked up the jar with the gloves in it and walked away. "Another job well done, and I'm amazed you lived at all my dear friend." Allren reached over and patted a small book. "That should keep the council happy, all your little secrets..." He grinned and bore his fangs. "Kept safe inside here." The man Allren had tortured was nothing like he used to be, horribly disfigured and scarred. "Vampires are not much fun, they handle pain far too well, if you were human you'd be dead you know that? But then thats why I like humans.. after all.. at least they squirm!" He cackled and quickly turned around. "Mute, where are you, miserable reject!"

Mute quietly stepped forward, his red eyes glazed over like he wasn't really there, as if he were in some form of trance but yet he was not.

"Good boy... come, take this book to Garreth! It contains important information that he has requested." Allren turned back to his table and looked over a frightening array of partially bloodied and stained instruments. "Rayla! When you get in here clean these up immediately! I can't have infections with my patients!" Allren was as sick as they come, no heart what so ever but yet he had morals, the one oddity about him. He never operated or experimented in 'unsanitary' conditions, not entirely out of the fact of infections but because he was a clean freak. His 'dungeon' in which he lived was cleaner then the manor up above. "And don't touch anything up there, they don't keep anything clean!"

Mute took the book, looked at Allren and then walked away like some kind of zombie. He left the dungeon through a 'hidden door', which everyone who spent enough time at the manor knew about, but very few actually even dared enter into Allren's 'living area'. He gazed around a little, he didn't see much outside of the doctors home. "Must find Garreth." Mute thought to himself and he walked off to find the one he was to deliver the book too.

Allren then shook his head as he turned to his latest victim. "Now then, you shall be very useful to me... oh damn it.. I forgot Mute doesn't talk.... he won't be able to do much... Rayla! Go help that idiot boy and then get back here and do your chores!" He moved over to the man who began to scream again....
PostPosted: Fri May 22, 2009 9:18 pm

With the two hours worth of bleak silence in the manor, Garreth knew instinctively that it only meant that Allren was completing the report. There was no question about it, there hadn't been such blissful silence for days and yet there was no bliss to this one. It stained the air with illuminating alarm. Smaller rumors were released about the Lilac Sun however it never seemed complete to him. Garreth needed to know everything the b*****d knew in order to gain a sense of place in the whole affair. So, the impatience caught up to him, he could no longer wait amongst the other headhunters, he stepped out of the main room to head to the hall where the hidden door was.

Rose watched with keen eyes as he did so; she was suspicious of his unfamiliar conduct the entire night. Though, she didn't act on it of course, unlike him, she wanted to enjoy life in the moment. She wanted to enjoy the wine and alcohols with the other headhunters in the room at the time. It was like Garreth to get this way in a time of war, or, that is what she assumed at least. That he'd not be able to handle being unprepared ever since the ambush way back when. The night she saved his life. Sighing as she took a sip of her wine, her eyes stared out into the fire of the fireplace near them. Her mind thought of that night and how it would be fitting to find Garreth something to loosen him up a bit.

"Garreth needs a woman." She joked aloud for the other headhunters to hear. It was a nice way to break the tension of impeding war in the room. A nice way to lighten the mood on something all of them knew to be true and something they knew Garreth would deny.

Meanwhile, as he scurried away from them and made his way to the hall where Allren's trap door lead, he pulled a cigar out of his pocket and lit it with a small torch after cutting the tip. He blow smoke from his nostrils leaving a long trail behind him in the badly lit hall. The moon shined through the window but that was all the light that was allowed. The shutters would be closed during the day to prevent illness from striking the vampires when exposed to sunlight. Either way, when Garreth arrived, he plopped himself onto the floor across from the door and waited.

After a few minutes of waiting, the door cracked open slowly and cautiously as Mute poked his head out to make sure it was clear. Grinning, Garreth spoke in low growling tone of voice, "Mute..." He watched as Mute's startled head turned to watch him. "The report." Without waiting for Mute to even get a chance to hand it too him, Garreth's hands where already on the book. He took it into his possession then looked down at Allren's spawn. Sighing, he gave him a pat on the head before heading toward the Armory since no one normally went in there. Garreth had another hour before the deadline to have it in to the council. Thank Allren for that. Tactfully, he sat at the war room table clearing the useless models from to the side with his hands. From that moment on, Garreth was entrenched into the report; learning every detail.

It was the dead of night, the hour of which no one dared to wander the streets during.

So there you had London, the magnificent city which more than half of it consisted of a ghetto. That being said, it would be very hard to track which part of the slums Teshiruu had been in that night.

He almost glowed in the dark night. His silver body seemed to radiate waves of energy, not the best outfit to wear when on a supposed stealth mission. He could not help it though so it was justified.

Teshiruu looked around, pale silver eyes scanning the area. Small, identical houses were lined up row by row. They were worn down and unimpressive, such were the homes of the welfarites of London. It had rained during the day and the smell mixed with leaking sewage close to the surface. The result was a pungent odor that hit hard on the nose.

Inside one of the homes, a woman's baby cried but it was quickly hushed. Teshiruu looked in that direction, his hand hovering over the hilt of his rapier.

It was nothing, though he continued to stare in that direction. He didn't want to exagerate a baby's cry into something more than what it was but he really did not want to be caught here. It was punishable by death if his meeting was discovered.

Though the crying had long stopped, there was something else in that general direction that caught his attention. One of the very narrow alleys between the houses, used for getting around, was the home of a small light. It was probably a candle and its light was feeble though it did just enough to attract his attention. No sooner had he seen it had the light been extuinguished.

Teshiruu walked quickly to the alley, as soon as he entered he felt water dripping on him. He looked up, there were clothes hanging to dry above him.

The presence of the alley was undeniable. Without a word being said, he knew who it was. The presence demanded his fear and respect. Like a venomous snake, it required his complete attention or else the consequences would be severe. He knew the other person in the alley felt the same way about him.

"You shouldn't have lit the candle," Teshiruu whispered in a hushed voice.

"How else would you have seen me?" There was a quiet, rasping sound across from the silver-haired vampire.

"We have time, I would have found you."

"We both know that's not true," The other person retorted. "What was so urgent that you had to see me tonight?"

"I caught one of your informants today. Roseli and I made quite a mess of of him, though I'm sure you know. I also hope it's a part of your understanding that the catch was far too easy. What if they suspect someth-"

"Enough, Teshiruu, please." There was a heavy silence in the air. "The Council does not care how you caught him, I'm sure they're licking their chops because of that piece of information they just received."

"What is it?" Teshiruu asked, sounding more eager than he would have liked. He hadn't found out anything from Garreth yet.

"You'll find out in time, there is that meeting coming up, isn't there?"

"Yes, yes there is," Teshiruu nodded, sounding reluctant to acknowledge it. His opposite knew everything there was to know about the Council. "You're avoiding my inquiry."

The other person sighed, Teshiruu could hear him shifting uncomfortably.

"Everything went as it should have. Those informants are disposable and generic."

"That's exactly my rational! We just acquired a pretty piece of fact for next to nothing!"

"It's easy to say that from your point of view but the others see it differently. They suspect nothing."

"They better not. You'll forgive me but I'll be taking my leave, the meeting starts in-"

"An hour, yes."

"Right," Teshiruu said uncomfortably. "Until next time, then?"

"I'll let you know when that is."

"Be careful."

"You too."

That exchange of cautionings may have sounded sincere but what it really meant was, "Don't get caught, if you do they might take me down with you."

The silence was once more as the two departed in seperate directions of the alley. Teshiruu looked back uncomfortably. This was a person he could trust but the amount of information he had was disturbing. Sometimes he questioned his sincerity but their goals were identical, at least for now.

The baby in the house started crying again, this time it did not stop.

***

Teshiruu's travelling cloak trailled behind him in The Council hallways. It was newer and smelt fresh, compared to the other one which was covered in grimy dirt from the slums. Tedious acts of cautions such as this were neccesary if one truely meant to not get caught.

It was the middle of the night but the halls were busiest now. Dark shadows floated across the floor to one place from another, all with their own destinations. They did so quietly and without talking, nobody trusted anyone.

They were all on the same side but as usual, Teshiruu noticed, everybody had their own greedy agenda. It was a bit ironic for him to think that, his own goals didn't exactly align with the Council's. They did not know that, that needn't be said. He easily convinced himself his case was different because it was for the greater good.

Teshiruu seemed to be wandering but he knew where he was going. Eventually, he reached a closed room. It was all too familiar, he had opened its doors many times before.

Teshiruu walked in, feeling at home among the other Headhunters. He took a seat in his reserved chair, not before bowing his head respectfully to Rose and the others. "Whats going on?"
PostPosted: Sat May 23, 2009 12:15 am

Sitting with his fellow headhunters yet still somewhat distance Fahim enjoyed the taste of his wine; slow enough to savor the the mature yet full and fruity taste and avoid getting drunk but fast enough to be on his third glass. Wars always depressed him. He was reminded of those he loved who died, some in vain. Teshiruu entered and greeted those in a room, in response Fahim lifted his glass and nodded his head.

Compelled by the dim light stared silently in till the candle burned to its half way point. His eyes then moved to the uneasy Garreth. His body language showed that he was in deep thought and like clockwork he stormed out of the room. Fahim shook his head and slowly letting out a slow calm sigh. Rose tried to ease the tension in the room by stating one of Garreth’s many flaws. In response to Rose’s delightful humor Fahim said, “No what he needs is a trollop. A wet hole would get rid of that attitude of his. I bet he shines his sword more than he socializes.”

After his commentary he felt very inappropriate, that very comment broke his day of silence, but it was in his nature, something he never apologized for. Despite his feelings he remained calm to make sure his peers didn't notice there was something wrong. He hoped his fellow head hunters knew his heart. He loved all of them dearly and would give his life if necessary. He quickly finished his fifth glass and stood to his feet. “Rose, if anyone needs me I will be in the foyer” he stated before taking his exit. When all eyes were off of him he hung his head. “I don’t think I’m ready for this one.”

In his dungeon Allren was in the process of having two thugish looking creatures with green skin who stood almost 8 feet tall and had fangs, the bottom ones specifically pointing upwards and larger then the uppers picking up what was left of the vampire he had been working on and moving him to one of the many cells in his home. "Brutes, you man go and rest now..." The two creatures grunted and headed off to someplace in the dungeon and Allren moved over to a table with a number of colored liquids. "Now, what injections should I do with that vampire, could be useful to have an additional brute to do all the heavy lifting.. or I could always work on something else... something new... Mute, where are you reject... oh yes.. I sent him to deliver that book... where is that idiot boy?" Allren turned around to see nothing amid the torch and candle light, which gave his dungeon its 'lived' in feel as he called it.

"Rayla! Where are you? Come here this instant, Rayla!" Allren shouted a few times and saw something move in the semi darkness and Rayla step forward. "Good, a nurse who doesn't respond to her doctor is going to end up in the chopping pile as fresh limbs and body parts." Allren laughed a little as he glanced over at a number of bins, which were closed and covered with ice. Written in a white paint they were labeled with various body parts or limbs on them.

"Yes Herr Dcotor, what is it I can do for you?" Rayla replied in her monotone voice as she bowed slightly.

"Go find Mute..... or on second thought, he hasn't been let out in a while.... go find him and walk him for a bit.. failure or not, he's still useful for fighting and I don't want him stopping due to unfamiliar things overwhelming him." With that said Allren returned to his work.

Rayla nodded. "At once Herr Doctor." Rayla left and headed up the same path Mute had gone to exit and found the young boy sitting next to a window in a half dead trance. "Mute... come here, the doctor wishes for me to..." She smiled lightly. "Show you around." Rayla was the greatest oddity Allren had ever created, the closest thing he made to a 'real' person. She walked over and took Mute's hand and lifted him to his feet. She looked out a window and nodded to herself. "I wonder why the doctor dislikes the look of the outside." She started to walk and Mute followed her without any signs of resistance.

Tick..tick..tick..

The ancient grandfather clock slowly ticked away the time, it’s elaborately decorated face staring down at the auburn head of the woman who had been holed up into the towering, dimly lit room for the past several days. Pale, bony hands were folded on the empty table before her, still, calm, and as unmoving as everything else except the clock. Before her were two items, each one important beyond what their appearance may have hinted. A blood stained parchment and a plain box, locked tight. A sigh finally escaped into the echoing silence and the woman leaned forward, her face finally visible through the shadows she had been enveloped in. The empty pools of her demon eyes lifted, staring out into the room until they reached the clock. It kept ticking, its golden hands slowly moving to keep track of lost hours, wasted minutes, breathless seconds. Until the ticking stopped, slowing in its ageless task until finally, it ended. The metal heart of cogs and springs finally gave out with one last torturous tick. Wood scraped against stone and she was on her feet, a small form that emitted a source of something unnamable. Her undrawn breath echoed in the hollow room, heavy with some dark weight as she folded the note and slipped into a pocket from which she withdrew a pair of worn gloves. The scent of blood filled the air, old, tainted. A sigh. Everything went dark.

~*~*~

Daciana’s welcome back was nothing more then the silent whisper of her body through the dark halls of the manor. Since the arrival of the beheaded messenger she had been absent from world, having disappeared without a single word as to her whereabouts. As a council member, some might have called her irresponsible for deserting the entire race at such a moment, but she’d always had such good timing before, hadn’t she? But she had more things on here own agenda to accomplish before she allowed herself to become entrenched in the society she was supposed to help dictate. Tiredness swept over the vampire, the ages pressing in on her for a split second, as if to remind her just how old she was on the inside. Rubbing her temple in a slow massage, a habitual motion by now, she followed the hallways towards her destination. She had someone she needed to visit before the meeting.

The Armory was one of the rooms most visited whenever she stayed in the manor. Many hours had been wasted inside, with herself and the one inhabitant who had not left the room since the day he had entered it. But today, something interrupted her visit. Furrowing her brow in surprised confusion, she slowly edged forward into the faint kerosene light in the war room. She had been so sure it would be empty right now. Who was it that disrupted her routine? A silent shadow in the doorway, she watched as the man poured over the contents of his book, entrenched in his reading. He was an unmistakable form, easily remembered because he reminded her so much of her past friend. The empty depths of her eyes glittered with sorrow as she lifted her gaze from Garreth to the painting the hung behind him. Anthony. Her long lost friend. Pain stung her heart as she looked over the majestic image of the proud being. The heavy concentration pouring off the younger vampire reminded her even more of her friend, and called up memories when she had pushed his mind to it’s limits.

‘You cheater! You can’t do that!’ Daciana’s laughter poured into the room, shaking her head at the warrior and his supposed tactics. ‘I’d like to see you try something like that on the battlefield.’

‘But I’m winning, unlike you, warrior!’ the female gasped out at Anthony’s indignant claim. This was why he always lost to her. ‘Stop using those old world strategies or you’ll never win, my friend.’ She warned, watching with glittering eyes as he leaned over the board to make his next move. She bubbled with laughter as he reached out to make it, and then drew back, doubting himself with a grumble and shake of his head. This went on for several tries, before finally he made his move.

‘Tsk tsk warrior!’ she said, pushing one of her glass figures forward. Flicking her black eyes up, she smiled impishly. ‘Check mate.’ She whispered, pushing the fallen knight over with her finger.

‘Again!’ he roared in empty outrage. ‘How do you manage it, little one? What is your secret?’

‘I do not doubt myself, warrior. That is why I always win. I do not doubt myself.’ She whispered in her soft way as she put away the pieces, cradling the wooden box to her chest before smiling to him as he nodded to her words.

Daciana blinked as she drew her mind away from those happier days. Back then, Ion had been alive and she…she had been too happy. She could not allow her thoughts to wonder to the man who had helped her get past her own hate to find love, who had on so many occasions needed her calming word to keep his rash mind from going one step too far. At least, until…No! She did not want to think about that dark day! Poor Anthony. Sucking in a deep breath to steady herself, she stepped out from the shadows, tired of lurking. “Garreth.” She breathed in welcome as she stepped into the rim of light.
