Okay, so I have a somewhat soft-polytheistic view on gods. From a religious perspective, I believe that they are different and are like a diamond: The diamond is the Feminine or Male Energy and the multiple facets are the deities which are separate expressions of the energy
In short, religiously, I think the deities are each separate beings but stem from one energy.
However, if I think as historian or as a mundane thinking individual, I believe that gods are all the same. The Greek gods were somewhat influenced by the Egyptian Gods, the Roman gods are nearly carbon copies of the Greek gods with minor adjustments for their society, and so on.
So religiously and when practicing witchcraft and studying neopaganism, my beliefs are harder polytheism: each god is different and express the feminine/masculine energies of the universe in their own way. But when reviewing mythology or studying paganism in a historical context, my beliefs are softer, and I see them as being the same.
Sometimes it's harder to keep those two separate, for spells I have to keep my historical beliefs separate, but when engaging in classes or whatever I have to input my historical beliefs and put religion and witchcraft associations on the backburner. I know, it seems somewhat contradictory, but religion and intellectual reviews and conversations cause this to happen to me
Discussion, What are you guys opinions?

ρℓαgυε яαтs αη∂ вℓσσ∂ч cяυмρεтs...I clicked "hard" on the poll but I'm kind of in the middle. I believe mostly the same thing as you described. I believe all the deities stem from the same energy. The Greek and Roman pantheons I consider to be the same thing. I think some pantheons can easily be called the same group of gods and goddesses and others can't. I guess it has to do with where in the world their origins are from. I don't know if that makes any sense; it's making sense in my head but I'm tired so tell me if I'm just rambling nonsense Status >in want of arts

I pretty much agree with Extravagantly Yours on the historical part of it. I mean, the ones you named did influence each other and yes the Roman and Greek pantheons are pretty much identical, but those aren't the only pantheons out there. What about the gods of the Aztecs or the Japanese? Very different things there. And following a Norse tradition myself, I can tell you that the Norse Gods are not the same as the Greek/Roman Gods, despite some parallels. The examples you listed are all pretty close together, geographically speaking. That has a lot to do with the influence they had on each other. Move to other parts of the world and you find differnt gods.
As to spirituality, that's a little harder to define. I chose the hard ploytheist option because I do agree with it as far as it goes but there's a bit more to it than that. However, it's late and I can't quite organize those thoughts into a coherent form at the moment. I'll try to post on this moe tomorrow.
