To me, Wicca is really just a word that sums up more than most of us can imagine. All that seems to remain universal among all brands of Wiccans is the belief in Goddess, and the Golden Rule of Do As Ye Will, But Harm None. And even that is reworded now and again. But the lack of strict rules and guilt-trips, and the fact my church is the vegetation of the mountains and the church-goers are non-humanoid peoples of the forests makes me happy. I like that Goddess is not above the world, but is the world, and that man is not above nature, because we are nature. I like the belief that Goddess did not create the world as if it were a machine, but that the world grew with Goddess. I just like the freedom, and the acceptance. Being able to do what we were naturally given: to work with energies and spirits and beings on other planes. Being able to sense things we do not see: not just pretend we can, and be expected to believe they're there without proof.

More-or-less, I love how it makes me happy and free to be Wiccan.

Ah, thank you :3

I'm working on it, I'm just not sure what to type next. Been alot of chaos lately.. I'm seeing quite a bit of people discriminating against the non-humanoid peoples of our planet, including the flora. Unfortunately the camp I went to I soon discovered had cut down very old trees that were part of my happy memories, and a little ways past that they were tearing down vine maples for - of course - a second RV park. I was very silent for that, but luckily I was able to pick up a few plants and take them out of the roadway, where they would've been crushed. They're now happily transplanted in pots here, but sadly I don't think the herb will make it.

It just makes me sick, when one day I'm immersed in the life of the forest, and the sense that beings not on this plane are there, I can almost see them. And the trees are not silent, and I can feel their presence. There was a particular one I could sense a more motherly spirit towards, and it kills me inside to know they're being cut down without even a second thought. And considering that camp is basically my Summerland and most natural meditation spot of choice, it's difficult not to be able to do a whole lot while they're destroying my spiritual home and church. And I know the tension's rising there. Bad things are going to happen to a whole lot of human people when Goddess finally fights back. It's not going to be pretty.

Thats the way it has to be though. Humanity has more or less taken over everything, and they dont care about anything. Which is unfortunate, because no one understands. I dont mean that we, as in the guildies, you and I included, dont pay attention, because we know what we look for and so forth. But society is moving in a more natural direction. Wiccan and pagan religions are sprouting everywhere, and even the government has a green agenda. We just have to hope that what we do as a species is a strong enough change not to open the floodgates of Gaeas Wrath.

It is true that the whole of the human world is moving in a more environmentally-friendly direction, and I was thinking of that while typing. I believe that Gaia causing some sort of mass destruction is unavoidable, it just depends on how bad it is. The scare of 2012 being some big thing might even be it, but there's been so many failed predictions of doom it's hard to tell anymore. Alot of people don't think anything will happen on the supposed Doomsday.

But yes. Things seem to be moving towards a more open-minded and accepting direction, but too many times I find myself very frustrated that the most I can do at this time is pray towards that goal and try to support other groups as much as possible. Things are moving quickly, but not quickly enough. And there's the occasional slip; Prop 8, for example. There's a hellufalot of protests going on, and we all know it's a matter of time before its torn down again, but that it even was put into power in the first place is agitating. This just seems to be the era of fighting for balance and equality on a very national level.

Its just all we can do. Trust In Gaea and the God and Godess. Maintain Faith in nature and Nature will maintain faith in you.

Perhaps. But I still feel I should do something. Anything. At least participate in some sort of protest. Go out there and chain myself to an old tree who's on a company's hit list. Something.

I hear ya!

Here where I live in NY, there was an Elder Home about a couple of miles away from us that had some BEAUTIFUL old maple trees, and these trees were absolutely HUGE.... one day my Mum and I were going to the grocery store that was next to this home and we got the the shock of our lives.... the house was still there. but all those huge old trees were GONE!!! Even my Mum went "WTF?" Pardon my French but it looks totally like s**t there now, and they've done NOTHING to protect the soil.... one good rain and alla that dirt is gonna wash away. I guess there have been a few nasty-grams in the paper about it. Sad situation, very sad.

Well, here's my update: it appears I'm destined to move to the city soon, the reason being my mother is following a new job again and since I'm not legal or emancipated yet, I've gotta follow. Now, I like cities. Generally. I like the energy and fast pace, and especially the night time. But it is as anti-natural as we're gonna get. I'm concerned I'll be too surrounded by the tearing down of trees for space to build that I'll eventually panic. Particularly since I will have no familiar people around me. Any tips on how to survive living in the city as a Wiccan?

Well, I have a couple books I found that might help, if you can find them:

"City Magick" by Christopher Penczak
"Urban Primitive: Paganism in the Concrete Jungle" by Raven Kaldera

The first is more about adapting your practice to the city environment, the latter book is about embracing it and becoming a different sort of pagan altogether.

Another take on bringing your practice to a city setting: perhaps you won't have as extensive a green space to work in but, maybe, you could set up your own on a smaller scale, pouring your devotion into a planter, an indoor sacred space or something in your new community.
You can also look skyward. One thing I did that was extremely comforting was to build an altar in a window. Yes, there was a plant there to represent the Tree.

Huh. Altar windows.
Certainly a different idea, that one.

And thanks, I'll look into those books. I do think I'll end up flooding my room with foliage friends, just since that seems to be what I'm going. Growing whatever I can get my hands on: old sprouting potatoes and onions, cherry seeds, sunflower seeds, bird seed mix, and rescued plants.
*Update on those plants, by the way. It looks like my herb might pull through. It's borderlining death, but it just may pull through.

I usually get a puzzled look when I talk about building an altar in a window. But, then, people think about it and understand that it is using a natural, available element to add, well, perspective to our devotion.

I had to feel very warm and happy at the thought of those rescued plants....I do that all the time. One of these tropical tree things in my front window was originally languishing at a workplace (its two companions came from dish gardens given for funerals). My mom rescued the tree-ish plant that sits below my back window!
The sprouty potatoes are all growing in a row out back.....

I'm just uncertain of what you mean by building an altar in a window. At first I was thinking a stained-glass image of an altar, but.. what exactly do you mean?

Nice. I like to rescue plants. Dunno why, just makes me feel like I'm helping Goddess somehow.
I've got a couple rescued potatoes with a few onions as well. I volunteer at the food bank, so they always have big bins of elder vegetables, and alot of them sprout :3
