So whats everyone been up to? Me i've got exams going on right now, so its study time. In between that though its been making plans for Z-day, or simply for when a zombie infection is finally developed/evolved. Gotten quite far i must say and things are actually taking some shape and form, got plans to meet up with friends etc, have backup plans which take into account locations, surrounding people etc. I can post more on it if your interested, and im developing it quite quickly, and a lot of things are in debate at the moment. Such as cabin fever and stress, all welcome in the melting pot of ideas as well biggrin
WnX signing out for now, post soon my fellow survivors! (I may start my own prose on it as well.)

Well at least one person interested is good enough for me biggrin This page can be for survival tactics or plans and we could set something up in the RP forum, that does need sort of a kick start : /
So lets start with survival tactics for when your say, at home, on your own and the infection has been going on for a while but has been hushed up by the media etc, but only now people realise whats going on. What are your plans starting from there? You haven't had anything prepared beforehand, and of course you only have things that are around the house or at your disposal. Lets assume that this infection is now wide spread so it may be overseas and power will now be something that isn't always going to be available.
Go!

Are we talking about classic Romero zombies, or those freaky fast zombies, a la 28 Days Later? I feel like that would affect my initial plans.
That said, I think my ultimate goal would be to make it to my grandparents house. It could house a lot of people (assuming I brought people with me), is fairly secure, has a lot of land that could be used for farming, and a river running through the back yard that would provide plenty of water along with possible duck hunting or fishing.

Well i've argued a lot of different types of the zombies, but lets just have two types: The standard shuffle zombies and the rage zombies.
Also one of the major rules on zombie survival: Never drink from outside water sources xp

Really?? Why no outside water sources??
AND .... are we talking about RL plans? As in I have to KNOW someone that has a bomb shelter vs actually planning to make one???

Hmm, I think I'd end up somewhere with a lot of locks before I could think it over.
I'd likely take the clothes on my back, my husband's Desert Eagle, my small knife, candles, etc (small one with a small lighter and butane to refill)
Then I would shoot them in the head.
If that did not work, I would not sleep if I were not next to a fire.
Possibly stay near a gas station in order to get gas to douse them with.
I fll else fails and I'm one of a few people left alive..? Military base.
I'd drive to Dayton Ohio and sleep in tanks with piles of MRE's at my side.
.....Anyone joining me there?

WnX Hokaru Well i've argued a lot of different types of the zombies, but lets just have two types: The standard shuffle zombies and the rage zombies. Also one of the major rules on zombie survival: Never drink from outside water sources xp You can tell I've thought too much about this: So are we saying there will be both kinds of zombies at the same time then? Because I always assumed the difference between those kinds of zombie meant they didn't mix. Rage zombies are caused by a virus, and thus those infected are not actually dead when they become zombies (to my understanding, anyway. it's been a while since I've seen the movies I'm basing that off of so correct me if I'm wrong on that). Romero never says what exactly causes his zombies, and while it might be viral the victims are always dead before they become zombies. So, shuffle zombies are reanimated corpses, hence the slowness and lack of motor skills. Two different types of zombie outbreak occurring simultaneously seems unlikely. As for no outside water- Where are you going to get it then? Sure, all the bottled water that would be in stores would last you for a while, assuming it wasn't all raided by people panicking but sooner or later you're going to need a water source. That means rain water collection if you live some place where it actually rains (not texas), lakes river, or wells. All of which are outside to some extent. Personally, and I didn't think of this before, I would hope to rely on rain water. Water treatment plants are going to stop operating very quickly and so most ground water sources will be contaminated. Rainwater has been purified of almost everything. And even if you drink bottled water, you can't expect to have enough to grow food with it. To be honest, I'm not sure what I would in the moment if zombie panic hit. There are so many nuances of what could happen. I'd probably try to hole up like that man and his daughter did in 28 Days Later, and then once the zombie hordes had spread out a bit (what with their main food source being scattered), try to make it to a place that would be safe and could provide resources for long term survival. @frogsnack: I'm on the fence about on-fire zombies. It would destroy them, but there is no evidence that they would stop trying to attack you until the fire destroyed their brain, so they could end up setting your building or the surroundings on fire.

OOoo.. good fire point.
And I think as for water sources, I would obtain (or steal from actual treatment plants or supply stores) the necessities for distillation. That would be long term. In the short term boiling water that's been filtered through charcoal (from one of my fires) in a cottone shirt, or something.
I like your point about the virus; I'd forgotten that they starved after a while.
For the traditional ones a church is fine, but not the infected... (O_o)
What to doooo....
*worry* eek

Stealing distillation equipment sounds like a good idea. I wonder how hard it is to operate? I'm sure there will be plenty of manuals around.
I tend to find virus zombies more plausible, which tragically takes away the speed advantage the living used to enjoy. And brings up all those nasty transmission issues. Can you imagine if the zombie virus went airborne? eek

xD My sister is always planning this kind of stuff, too. I'm afraid to say I don't know enough about all of the different types of zombies and transmission options and abilities and all that to really come up with a plausible solution, so I guess... a zombie's life for me?
Still, if your talking about breaking into a water distillation plant for equipment, how much of that stuff is actually portable? Might it be better to just hole up there and make it your base?
Oh, I have a crazy idea that might actually work! There are plenty of people who have survived for awhile on lifeboats, right? In theory, with the proper fishing equipment and portable distillers and whatnot, you could create a daily schedule to maintain life on a boat. The only trick would be getting to the boat and out into the ocean. Even if zombies could drive boats, they would probably wait until all of the food on land was gone before trying the water and by that time you'd be nearly impossible to find.

I'm not sure you wouldn't become malnourished eating only fish for an extended period of time. I mean, I don't know that much about nutrition but I can't imagine you're getting all the vitamins you need just from fishes. But as a short term solution it might work well if you have the specific skill set that boats require. You'd need to be able to navigate and know how to handle a boat in storms.
At some point I was all about finding an offshore island to hide on for a while. And then I remembered that I have never driven a boat in my life, and would have no idea where to find an island.

Good point. So go raid a library's boating section, then find a dock! xD You would get malnourished before too long, but at least you won't get attacked by zombies. And maybe you could find ways to catch birds and turtles, too, instead of just fish. Or bring soil and seeds and have a mini vegetable garden.
