Pagan people and witchy types have books, it seems. We are always studying, learning more things, finding ideas. One would think we all had librarians in the family, like I do - and she's Wiccan, too! But I digress.... Not everyone has access to lots of books or the books go out of print and become expensive or we have limited funds. So I am beginning a list of what's on the shelves, here, sort of as a reference, sort of as inspiration. Not every book is full of fabulous ideas - some are utterly awful, some are scholarly and dense, some are best digested in small pieces, some are eloquent and challenging. I don't agree with everything I read, I don't value every book equally. Everyone else is perfectly welcome to post their books here and comment as to the usefulness of various tomes and their authors.

I started off looking through my books for works speaking specifically to types of spirits and how to work with them:
"Psychic Self-Defense and Well-Being" by Denning and Phillips [lurid cover but recommended]
"Spirit of the Witch" by Raven Grimassi [big name author - one relevant chapter; I must have liked the look of this one as I found two copies lurking on the shelves.]
"The Mist-Filled Path" by Frank MacEowen [Celtic in focus but specific to spirit work for solitaries]
"The Earth Path" by Starhawk [working with Nature spirits]
"Plant Spirit Medicine" by Eliot Cowan [using plant spirits to heal]
Ted Andrews: "Animal-Speak", "Nature-Speak", "The Animal-Wise Tarot" [okay, I know, it's Ted, lol, but couple it with the next book]
"Totems" by Brad Steiger [animal spirits - recommended]
Tomorrow night I'll get into listing the Shamanic books, a related topic.

Tonight's additions to the bookshelf: Shamanic studies.
"The Temple of Shamanic Witchcraft" by Christopher Penczak [note, I also have at least two other books in Penczak's 'temple' series]
"Shamanism as a Spiritual Practice for Daily Life" by Tom Cowan [author of "Fire in the Head", which I don't have]
"Modern Shamanic Living" by Evelyn Rysdyk [women's perspective; doesn't get as good reviews]
"The Way of the Shaman" by Michael Harner [a must read for this subject]
"Mother Earth Spirituality" by Ed McGaa [native American perspective]

Christopher Penczak: The Inner Temple of Witchcraft The Outer Temple of Witchcraft The Temple of Shamanic Witchcraft
(there are 3 further books in this series that I don't have)
Solitary Witch by Silver Ravenwolf yes, I have a book by SR, who usually gets roundly trashed. This is mainly a reference book with all sorts of correspondences.
Witchcrafting by Phyllis Curott
A Witch's book of Answers by Eileen Holland [signed by the author!]
The Witch's Coven by Edain McCoy
The Magickal Life by Vivianne Crowley
Celebrate the Earth by Laurie Cabot
Witchcraft, an Alternative Path by Ann Moura [I have her Green Witchcraft series which I'll drag out when I do the topic as a separate list]

Actually, I may have to divest myself of some books due to downsizing the household space I have available. What I choose to get rid of may be instructive....
