Jason ruled...in fact, he was the one who inspired me to become a bassist. The only decent song from the Load album was King Nothing, due to the bass riff at the beginning.

Jasen newstead was never really accepted in the band. He was always hazed by those guys. I have respect for the guy though, seeing as though he tryed his best to replace cliff burton. those shoes where never filled in my opinion, but thats because it was Cliff.

Same goes for kirk hammet in my opinion. I respect the guy for replacing an insane guitarist, dave mustain. I mean this is just my opinion, but i think dave mustain was better in metallica simply because he played mainly thrash. Kirk, was the better guitarist due to his well roundedness, but not exacly a thrash guitarist..

- all these are just my opinions.

Burton was the one man who brought Metallica into fame, I respect him forty times more than I do Newsted or any other Metallica member. Newsted was good though, not in Metallica, but in Flotsam & Jetsam. I'm glad he's in Voivod now, a real thrash band. I wish they hadn't hazed him on AJ4A. It woulda been a much better album with bass..

Anyways, Mustaine was just a drinking, druggie, partying, machine.. He had no drive for success, and what really willed his success in Megadeth was vengeance. He was a brilliant thrash song writter though. I would of rather had Mustaine in Metallica though, if he could have paid Metallica any attention.. But he didn't..

yeah i agree. as far as band working together goes, kirk was better. he had drive for the band, but musically. i think dave mustain was far superior.

and also I think your 100 percent right about burton. out of every bassist in metal hes up there with harris and butler to me.

As a song-writter, Mustaine was amazing. He's not legendarily good in physical talent, but still a good guitarist. Burton also added very thrashy bass lines to the songs of KEA (Cause for the most part, the other instrumental parts build off of the bass line).

And about Mustaine, he at least had reason to not pay much attention to Metallica. He was pretty sure he wouldn't be in em long when he joined (He would just be a transition between Lloyd and Kirk). As during his try-out for the band, he was almost completely ignored. Halfway through, the other members of Metallica left to talk, and when he asked why they left, they said he was in (Which meant, they prolly weren't going to be taking him that seriously). But if Mustaine actually controlled himself and wasn't constantly partying, they might have kept him.

, you got a point,The way i see it is that mustain didn't need them, he started his own band that beats the s**t out of metallica.
