I dont care if people rebuttle my opinions, because that's all they are, opinions. I believe what i believe so as to better deal with the hardships in life.
I believe in reincarnation. I believe that life is a learning process. I also believe that all life has purposes and that we are here untill we fullfill most of them. When we do, we die and move on to the next life and take the spiritual experience from this life and the past lifes with us. On and on this happens untill we take all we need from death and birth and become one with all, out of mind. Lets say in this life you find a need to help people out, and you prevail in it and it becomes a passion, in your next life you'll already have this passion to help others and you'll never lose that.
In the case of your Grandmother, her purpose in death might be to teach you a lesson of life. something everyone needs to deal with and understand eventually. It's never fun, trust me, i've had to deal with many deaths.. but it's something we all have to come to terms with.

Ok this may seem stupid, but the first law of thermodynamics states that energy can neither be created or destroyed-only changed between forms. now, think for a moment that the human... "soul".... is a kind of energy, the energy that makes us us. now, according to the first law, when we die, this energy cannot simply disappear. therefore, there should be a kind of afterlife if this logic is followed. The fact that it is changed from form to form may actually lend credence to the theory of reincarnation, so... sorry if this makes no sense sweatdrop

no, i like that. finally a ground where you can put science and religion together. of course you just have to prove the existance of the soul, but i dont need proof, i can feel it. thats good enough for me

The problem is it's pretty much impossible to prove that...

Not to cast a pessimistic light on the conversation, but I think I have to disagree about the soul necessarily being a form of energy; the spiritual processes of death I can't comment on, but the physical description must be accurate, even if depressing. Energy isn't a substance on its own, but is rather a property of objects like speed or hardness. You can't make things out of energy any more than you can make things out of speed. The soul might be a special property of the matter that composes us, or even a separate kind of matter altogether, but it certainly isn't just "energy". Furthermore, even if the soul were energy, there's no guarantee that the soul would remain soul-like after death. All energy tends toward becoming heat, in which case after death the soul would dissipate into the random motion of particles.

All energy tends toward becoming heat, in which case after death the soul would dissipate into the random motion of particles. If the former were true and the soul were a separate kind of matter, then it could be possible that the soul maintans a separate set of rules. Metaphysical as it is, it may be impossible for humans to comprehend its true nature. Notice I also didn't say it was energy, but that it may be like a form of energy. If the latter were true, then it is relatively impossible for the soul to be destroyed, which in itself would give credence to the notion of an afterlife of some kind.

I also believe in the concept of reincarnation but more of the hindu principle that we eventually escape the cycle of birth and death.

the buddhists have a similar view. the natural cycle of samsara (death/rebirth) will happen indefinantly untill you relese all things that cause suffering and transend into nirvana. It's a bit extream in my views the way to do this, but it's interesting none the less. plus it's sparked the beginning of my beliefs

There's a course entirely for this subject in my school. Of course, it's from a religious point of view, but it also includes the stages of dying. I signed up for it, but I don't believe I got in...

I believe in something a little beyond even my comprehension. I believe in a type of all-present soul amongst everyone and everything, which never dies. It's like everything lives on forever as one being but each individual thing has to die. I don't believe in the passing of a soul; more like a dissipation into the universal spirit. Is that like Nirvana?

i think you have the right idea. i have the same basic ideas for a collective consciousness. In this idea, it's as if everyone is an extention of you. So if someone close dies.. it's not like they're actually gone.
As for that being nervana is anyones guess. I'm not sure anyone knows, but you have a good idea. It's up for you to decide and to find out when you get there..if you believe in such
be that as it is, it's a very beautiful poetic way to view life and death

I believe we go to a place called the spirit world where we are then allowed to gain more knowledge and understanding (if we so choose) that we weren't able to gain on this earth, then after the Final Judgement we go to some degree of glory or to outer darkness (hell) depending on how righteous we were through out our lives
