Cyrene padded along the hot sidewalk smoothly, smirking to herself. True, she should be with her kits right now, as to make sure they weren't snatched or some silly thing such as that. But with the whole catnapping scare, almost all cats had been sent out to hunt for the mysterious cats that had been lurking about lately. Not like anyone knew for certain that those cats had catnapped fellow members, perhaps they had simply left. And anyway... She glanced over at her 'hunting' partner, still smirking slyly. Who would pass up a perfect opportunity to flirt with such a nice-looking cat?

It was a nice day for hunting cat-nappers, if that was what they were doing. Moebokk had been told that unfamiliar cats had been seen prowling about where they had no business prowling, and there was also the matter of the missing Jellicles. Better keep an eye out for suspicious characters, and to avoid being alone.

Cyrene, his partner in... err... preventing crime, didn't seem too worried. Frankly, he wasn't either and he was glad that the cat that had volunteered to partner up with him wasn't too skittish. The sun was still up, a lot of humans were moving in the area, and he tried (without much success) to figure out where he would hide if he had been cat-napped. After a long moment of brooding he decided that the hiding place was up to the one abducting him, really. At least if the cat-napped cat wasn't just hiding, but if he was he wouldn't be cat-napped, now would he? Moebokk sighed and decided to leave the figuring out part of this operation to someone else. He wasn’t cut out to think like a cat-napper.

"You think a human did it, maybe?" he asked, dodging a pair of legs and running for the relative cover behind a trashcan. "They seem awfully fond of catching cats and feeding them."

The trashcan Moebokk hid behind was close in vicinity to a hotdog cart, the garbage of the lunchtime crowd already well on its way to filling the metal container. The savory aroma of the hotdogs (and the voice of the vendor!) floated through the air, drawing hungry customers as they made their way through the busy London downtown. A sizable amount of people were gathered around the cart, making it dangerous territory for anything shorter than knee-height.

Under the cart, out of the way of the stomping feet and eyesight of the humans, was a cat. Between the fence of legs, she was able to see approaching felines. Jellicles! A growl rose in her throat at the sight of them. Above the hum of the human voices, she was able to hear the male speak, and without much restraint she called to him: "Looks like the humans have gotten a'hold of you then, tubby! Still, ya look a far bit better than those snotty housecats will after Da Boss gets done wit' 'em!"

She continued to glare at Cyrene and Moebokk, but still made no move to directly confront them, protected as she was behind the legs of the humans. No, they would have to come to her, and good luck not getting a tail stepped on in the process!

Cyrene tilted her head at the question, keeping pace. It was quite logical--Humans catching cats on the streets. "Perhaps," She answered, leaping up onto the trashcan and looking down at him slyly, chest puffed out slightly. "Could be anything, really,"

She had no real desire to work out the whole silly thing, nor did she care much. So a few cats had disappeared. Woo-ho. Less mouths to feed, right? She got up from her spot on the trashcan and leaped down beside him, brushing up against him as she did so.

"So that fall from heaven must have been hard," She wasted no time getting down to flirting as she sat beside him behind the trashcan. "Angels don't fall to often around here."

EDIT:: (late post ftw?)

Cyrene's ears perked at the sound of the cat, her flirting being quite rudely interrupted. "Boss?" She rumbled to Moebokk, flicking an ear back in confusion. A catnapper! She thought, fur on her back rising. And competition! The inner part of her mind growled, though the other part quieted that quite quickly. "What're we going to do, Moe?" She growled under her breath, but hopefully loud enough that he could hear.

"What the... what now?" Moebokk said, utterly confused by the sudden turn the conversation had taken as Cyrene brushed up against him, "Angels?" Much later, when he was back in the safety of his home, he would think back and say to himself: That pretty little thing was flirting with me, wasn't she? Oh...

He might have figured it out sooner if he hadn't been distracted by the taunt tossed his way by a hostile looking creature under the hotdog cart. Before he had time to figure out how to react Cyrene asked...

"What're we going to do, Moe?"

Yeah. Probably a good thing to speak quietly if this was one of the bad guys. But apparently Cyrene wasn't prepared to do the figuring out either, so he would simply have to do his best. And think. Hmmm...

"Bugger," he said, under his breath.

To an outside observer Moe appeared to be thinking very hard indeed, and from time to time Cyrene would be able to hear him mumble to himself. As time dragged on his ears flattened slightly and the tip of his tail started twitching. He puffed up slightly and glared at the hostile cat.

"My name is not Tubby," he announced, rather loudly and with an annoyed frown, as if the insult hadn't registered until now. "That wasn't very polite."

No, Moe was rarely accused of being quick, but he wasn't that stupid. The embryo of an idea had started to form. It was fairly obvious that trying to attack or capture the other cat would get them nowhere fast. If he could even get through the sea of people unharmed (not likely considering his size) he would simply be greeted by a face full of claws or find the space under the cart empty. Bad plan. New plan needed.

"I think..." he hissed out of the corner of his mouth, "I might get an idea soon. We should... keep her talking. Keep her there."

The dull cat's eyes widened out of the glare as she watched the cats across the way. She couldn't decide just which of the unusual pair was more ridiculous, this was the best the Jellicles could do for their missing mates? Narrowing her eyes again, she let out a delighted cackle. Perhaps it was a chance for some fun.

"Hah, manners!" she laughed, having no intention of passing through the sea of humans, "Those aren't yer biggest problem right now." Her plan was similar to theirs, it still did not involve direct confrontation. She would have a bit of fun, see where this would go. Still glaring intently at them, she slunk backwards, out of clear view under the cart.

"Right," Cyrene muttered under her breath, leaping back on the trash can to get a better view of the cart. She relaxed herself, attempting to give off more of a cool, unworried attitude than an aggressive one. Perhaps that would give her an edge, being hot-headed may just get her on thinner ice.

"So," She meowed, hopefully loud enough to reach over the traffic of people. "What are our biggest problems, hm?" She flicked her tail, stretching sleepily, carelessly.

Moebokk crouched down, trying to see where the cat went. She seemed to know something they didn't, and he didn't feel comfortable trying to figure out her taunts and second guess her motives. She seemed to know that cats had gone missing, that could be the house cats she talked about earlier, but it was anyone's guess if she had something to do with it or just pretended she did. Perhaps Vaertun would be able to make sense of it later.

"What are our biggest problems, hm?"

It was a good thing that Cyrene did the talking, really. Perhaps... The cat must have got under there someway unless she was trapped. Moebokk racked his brain for any piece of knowledge about these human food stations. Perhaps if he could get around it somehow? There were lots of humans in front of the cart, but only one with enough sense to get to the food from the other direction.

He started to pick out a path through the thinner parts of the crowd, trying to get to a position where he would be able to see the back of the cart, and perhaps get a closer look at the other cat. Luckily Moebokk was fitter than he looked, as agile as any cat really. It was still tricky to try to find a way around, and he very nearly met a nasty fate in the sticky hands of a toddler. Only a mad dash in the other direction saved him from heavy-handed cuddles and ketchup in his fur. He could see the side of the cart now, but there were still a lot of people blocking the way. People that might not like a big yellow cat near their hotdogs. Aw, bollocks. Perhaps this was a bad idea?

She remained under the cart, unseen, her watchful eyes following the pale paws on the large male. He was quicker than he looked and more determined than he seemed. The female didn't seem that bright, but she was direct. The only response her question would get was a laugh, which indicated very clearly that the mysterious feline was still there. Her attention fell back on the orange male heading her way, he was hesitating. There wasn't much fun in that!

"Gonna chicken out, are yeh?" she called out with another laugh.

"'Ey, stripes!" Cyrene called to the female in an attempt to draw her attention away from Moebokk, who was steadily drawing closer. "He's not the one hiding under a hotdog cart, is he?" She grinned, getting up from her basking on the trashcan. She wasn't quite sure what to do, however. She could leap down and help Moe, and face a sea of humans, or stay up on the trashcan in an attempt to keep the cat distracted.

She bit her lip and looked at the sea of humans, but shook her head. No, she wouldn't risk it. She needed to stay up here, anyway, to keep the attention on her. But what can I do?

"Gonna chicken out, are yeh?"

Gah! It was a good thing that she was still under there, he supposed, but her constant sniping was starting to get to him. It was far too easy to be cocky from a distance, but it had never been Moebokk’s style to hurl insults. He wasn't prepared to start now.

"Who are you anyway," he cried, frustrated. And unfortunately a bit more loudly than what was wise in the situation. The mewing drew some unwanted attention from the humans surrounding him, and they started making human noises. And most of them sounded like bad news.

"Is that a cat?" "Eww! Don't feed it." "What a cutie!" "Don't touch it Hannah. It might have diseases."

It all sounded like "bork, bork, bork" to him, but from the tone of their voices he could tell that it was no good idea to stick around. A mad dash sent him out of harms way for now, even if he bumped into a pair of legs on the way. He'd think about if it hurt later. With the adrenaline rush he had going it was a small miracle that he didn't keep running straight up the brick wall.

Crouched up next to the house wall he had a few tough decisions to make. He had a good view of the back of the cart and should be able to get there without too much trouble. But what then? Should he try to force the mysterious cat to tell him about her nefarious schemes? He couldn't very well drag her screaming and kicking back to Vaertun through the heavily populated streets. And so he hesitated for a moment.

She peeked out from behind the cart, fortunately away from the vendor and safe from any shouting or kicks to shoo her away. Her eyes were on Cyrene first as she pointed out the obvious, they clearly had no sense of fun, not in the same way she and her friends did. Still grinning, she turned to look at Moebokk just in time to see him finally force his way through all the feet.

The question was laughable. Who she was didn't matter, what she did, who she worked with, for.. that mattered. Glancing back at the hotdog vendor she jumped away from the cart, nearer to Moebokk. The people around could see that something was happening, and many started to walk around them.

"Can you keep up?" she called to Moe and taking off across the street, heading right towards Cyrene. Were she not intending to cause some kind of scuffle, it would be clear just how much fun she was having.

Cyrene jumped slightly as the cat barreled towards her. She flicked her ears back. What could she do? It was unclear whether she was planning to attack, or simply run near her. She nimbly leapt down off of the can, right in front of the troublemaker's path with a small growl, lashing her tail. If anything, this might distract her long enough for Moe to catch up... Or so she hoped.

The sudden move made Moebokk startle, but when she took off he followed without hesitation. It was more or less a gut reaction and the shouted challenge had little to do with it. She would not get away if he could help it, and now when he had finally got a better view of her he wouldn’t forget her face. Moebokk made a point to remember both enemies and friends, and this cat was definitely worthy of a spot in the first category. Following was easy, and while he failed to gain on the tan cat she wasn’t getting away from him either. Good.

At first he thought that Cyrene would stay on her high vantage point, but the small female was braver than she looked. Should the striped cat hesitate or slow down because of Cyrene’s move he might actually reach her. Or perhaps run straight into her and bowl her over since he had too much momentum to stop rapidly...

((OOC: I rolled in the thread to determine if he would gain on her or not. 1-5 = fail, 6-15 = keeping up, 16-20 gaining on her. Rolled a 15 on page 285.))

She grinned at Cyrene's move, glancing to the can the red cat had jumped from. Rather than hesitating, or slowing down, she picked up the pace. At the last minute, though, she turned and jumped up onto the garbage can-- but at a very bad angle caused by the last minute turn. As she scrambled on top of the can, it wobbled and another half-attempt at a jump made it fall over. The troublesome cat hoped if it didn't hit the other cats, it at least scared them. Fortunately for her, the jump was enough to help her grab onto one of the cans beside the one that fell, but it too threatened to topple.

There was a loud crash, startling most of the humans around, some even stopped to see what was going on.
