Anackroan had decided immediately that he wanted to help out the Jellicles in the searching. He wasn't terribly fond of leaving the residential area where most of the Jellicles had human families, he barely even liked going to Junkyard when it wasn't necessary.. but he was determined to help. It helped that Nameie had been an alleycat before she was adopted, he gave him confidence.

"Molly," he sighed, looking around the alley with distaste, "Where are we going again?"

Molly enjoyed the good life with her human family but she was still confident and comfortable in the alleys. She was a stray at one point, she hadn't always been with a family. She couldn't help but laugh at the way her mate walked around, the funny expression on his face, the quiet way he spoke.

"We're going to find Captain," she replied in a quiet voice, though her voice had no uncertainty in it, she was calm and confident, "We'll see if he's noticed anybody unusual around here." She was eager to see Captain again, he was her adoptive father. He was why she ended up with humans instead of staying in the alley with him.

"Come on," she said, turning around a corner and picking up the pace, "This way!" She recognized where they were.

Farther down in the alley, where precious little daylight shone, was a white tom with two big black spots and a black tail, patiently washing himself until his pale fur nearly glowed in the dim lighting. He looked for all the world to not care at all about the two cats he heard approaching, but his ears were cocked, taking in all they said.

Captain, the girl had said. Mittorien had seen the guy, once or twice, from a distance. He'd never had a reason to mess with Captain, and he wasn't entirely certain he wanted to. But this girl, for all she seemed to know the alleys, stank of housecat to him. Whatever brought her back here must be something fairly interesting.

Around the corner they came at last, a grey and some strange pinkish colors that he couldn't quite name. The white tom paused in his washing to stretch, and then resumed once more.

Messilika was stalking pidgeons on the slanted rooftops above the alleyways - a little meat was always welcome in the diet. Even so, she wasn't very successful today, as the pidgeons in this area had learned that she was dangerous at long last. She'd have to tell Mittorien that it was time to move on.

Speaking of, the brown cat glanced down at the alleyway below in time to see her mate stretching lazily. Rather, that's what it looked like to anyone else. For her, it was a signal saying that he wanted her to keep an unobtrusive eye on him...and interfere if necessary.

Curious now, Messilika snuck further down, studying the two new arrivals.

Anackroan had not yet met Captain, though he knew well enough who he was. Nameie had explained who he was, about her youth. He felt some natural anxiety of being introduced to the father of your mate, especially since he was an alleycat and Anackroan was.. not an alleycat. He walked along at Nameie's side, keeping his eyes open for any cat fitting the description of Captain though he expected Nameie to notice him first.

He spotted the white cat in the distance but he looked harmless enough. But if Vaertun was right, they had to be wary of strangers, especially so far from the Junkyard. He looked over at Nameie to see if she noticed.

Nameie walked calmly, lightly, almost daring to hum to herself. She didn't have to like the situation to be cheerful, she was doing something to help, she was asking an alleycat. The alleys seemed like a good place for some shady characters to hide out, but not all of the cats living here were bad.

"Oh!" she started when she spotted Mitorrien, looking over at Anackroan to see him looking at her, "Hmm." She looked back, she didn't recognize him, he was potentially involved in whatever had happened to the other cats. But Nameie hadn't expected to come across one of them just.. grooming. How were you supposed to know?

She glanced at Anackroan, tensing a bit but deciding to just walk by and see if he would say anything. They couldn't discuss anything more where this stranger could hear them anyway. If this was someone to keep an eye on, they would have to be a bit more stealthy than they were being right then.

Mittorien was stretching again, a long, luxurious stretch to be certain that his partner would notice, when the grey female made her exclamation. Red eyes opened slowly and focused on the pair, studying them quickly and choosing a plan of action before he spoke. It would be the grey one he had to convince, the one who knew where she was going, who'd spoken of Captain.

"Well, hello there," he greeted them calmly, sitting up and smoothing a last stray tuft of fur with his tongue. He thought about saying more, but decided against it. It was never good to be too forward when pumping unwitting cats for information.

Meanwhile, Messilika was descending from the rooftops as quietly as she could, slowly maneuvering into position. Mittorien would keep the two stationary and talking until then. If they were lucky and his tongue was silver today, she wouldn't have to do any more than that, and the pair would never know that they didn't outnumber the white tom.

Anackroan nodded to Nameie when she glanced at him, making sure to stay at least shoulder to shoulder with his mate. He might not be the toughest of cats, but he loved his mate and was rather protective. He stuck close by her side, not terribly surprised to hear him speak as she neared. He still did not seem terribly threatening, but there was no way for them to know yet.

"Good afternoon," he said politely, eying the well-groomed cat.

Nameie could feel her mate brushing against her as they walked, it was reassuring- and normally she would find it amusing, but this was a special circumstance. She glanced at Anackroan when he returned the greeting, smiling carefully and turning back to the white cat herself.

"We're just passing through," Nameie said, evading immediate introduction to see if they would be delayed or allowed to pass. It would make a difference.

"Good afternoon," Mittorien nodded politely to the stranger cats and waited for the grey one to speak. His eyes narrowed a tiny bit at her evasive words.

"Just passing through? This isn't one of the most popular alleys in London though," he pointed out with calm logic. Inwardly the white cat seethed. Seems this one had retained some sense when she moved into the house. She wouldn't make this easy.

Messilika's eyes also narrowed as she caught the beginning of the exchange. That silly grey housecat would ruin it all! Except...wasn't that why she was here, slinking around? The brown female reached the ground and moved to lurk behind a pair of crates with just enough space between that she could keep an eye on what was going on.

Anackroan was silent, letting Nameie lead the way through this situation. He was more than happy to keep his mouth shut, he hadn't ever really dealt with an alleycat before. Instead, he took to searching his memory for this cat. He wasn't able to come up with anything, to him that meant they should be suspicious.

Wondering if maybe he was responsible for the missing cats, he started to look around, trying to be casual about it. There were too many places to hide and keep things hidden around here.

Nameie did not look at her mate, but she knew he was looking around. It wasn't very subtle but it could be shrugged off, couldn't it? If this were an innocent feline, anyway.

"Not for those who dislike the alleys," she responded, smiling and continuing under the assumption their conversation might have been heard before they rounded the corner, "Which is what makes it popular for those who reside here. We're looking for someone."

Mittorien silently acknowledged the hit. "True enough," he replied, subtly relaxing as he caught a green glint behind the strangers. He continued on, "But, looking for someone? What would bring someone like you back here?" The longer the conversation went on, the more he could see how the grey female had lived as an alleycat for a fair chunk of time...and not overly long ago at that. He'd have to tread carefully here.

This was the hardest part for Messilika. Waiting silently, not betraying her presence in any way until she was needed...or not at all if not. She would keep watch silently and invisibly (to the strangers) until then.

Even with his eyes wandering around the alley, Anackroan did not spot any sign of the second alleycat keeping her eyes on him. He couldn't see anything. No signs of Captain, no signs of any other cats.. so he turned his head back to the tom before him, trying to remain calm and expressionless.

Nameie had to struggle not to react to the 'someone like you'. It was either a remark about how she was a housecat or a Jellicle and neither made the cat before her seem anymore innocent. She looked over at Anackroan just as he stopped looking around, then back to Mitorrien. They had to be careful.

"Some cats have gone missing in the neighbourhood," she said carefully, suspiciously, though doing her best not to sound as accusing as she was, "We are looking for those suspicious strangers who might be involved in their disappearance." If they were guilty, they would know they were onto them. Otherwise.. they might be getting into trouble.

Mittorien had had long practice in not smirking at the ineptness of born-and-bred housecats, but Nameie's words shocked him and he couldn't keep the surprise from face or voice. "Missing cats? I haven't heard anything..." he mused in a concerned undertone. Then the tom looked up sharply, eyeing the grey cat. "Are you certain they haven't just run away to the alleys?" His tone promised trouble for whoever would try to pin the blame of missing housecats on him.

Still...maybe it wasn't all housecats. Not if they were going to see Captain. So...Jellicles. The white cat mentally spat the word. Missing Jellicles. There was an opportunity in this. Come to think of it, hadn't he noticed a cat or two that hadn't been seen in a while? Perhaps they were connected...hmmm. Clearly this would require a great deal of thought and some planning, but later. Right now, he had to get as much information from these two as he could.

Messilika froze in her hiding spot. Missing cats? And two housecats seeking help of some kind in the alleys? It had to be those damned Jellicles. Green eyes narrowed as she began plotting ways to use this to her advantage for her revenge on the whole Jellicle tribe. Maybe, just maybe, her and Mittorien's day had finally come, and these two unwitting message bearers were calling them forth!

The brown cat suppressed the wild surge of glee in order to remain hidden. There was more to be gleaned from this meeting, and it was still possible for things to go wrong.

"We're in the right place to find that out," Anackroan grumbled, taking another look around them warily. He didn't like the tone of voice the response came in, he would be more than happy to run off now and come back with more cats if this was worth pursuing. This wasn't going anywhere he liked fast.

"The alleys are not for everybody," Nameie commented honestly, still trying to be careful but not entirely sure where to go from here without outright accusation of it. They would need to ask somebody about this cat, if they did not find Captain then perhaps Vaertun when they got back to the Junkyard.

"Have you seen anything suspicious around here?" she asked, deciding to offer him a chance to be of help rather than just accusing him. It was a more hopeful way of getting out of this without trouble.

Red eyes flashed angrily in Anackroan's direction for a split second before Mittorien managed to regain control of his temper. "Clearly not," he replied acidly to the female instead of lashing out with his claws at the male.

When she asked him outright, the white tom eyed her suspiciously. She probably suspected him, he decided, and it would be prudent to be completely honest. "There's maybe one or two that I haven't seen as recently as I should have," he admitted. "I don't know if they're related to your missing cats though."

Messilika didn't like where this was going. The male was openly suspicious and was clearly just a housecat. He might do something stupidly noble and attack Mittorien at this rate. She began moving, silently and carefully, closer to the trio.

Anackroan looked back just in time to see the angry look he got, he hadn't meant any offense, only that they would indeed find any runaways in the alley if they came to it. He shuffled ever so slightly closer to Nameie, their sides touching now. He watched Mittorien with equal suspicion, not liking the way he was looking at Nameie.

"Well, thank you for the help," he said, stepping forward in hopes of directing he and Nameie away from the alleyway now. If Captain was around, he would hope that he would have intervened. Now was a good time to go get others.

Nameie sighed, nudging against Anackroan when he brushed against her- and then stepped forward. Evasive was a natural reaction, perhaps, but it was something to be careful about. She wasn't sure what to expect now, she stepped to the side a bit, away from Anackroan.

"You're welcome," Mittorien said pleasantly enough. His sharp teeth showed and eyes narrowed as his tone changed. "However, I'd like to hear more about these missing cats of yours, if you don't mind."

As her mate's demeanor changed, Messilika stepped out of the shadows to stand squarely between the housecats and retreat back the way they'd come, just as Mittorien stood preventing their advance.

Anackroan noticed the change immediately, or perhaps by lucky guess thanks to his anxiety. His eyes narrowed in response to the unhappy turn the conversation took, this wasn't good. He stepped back, running into Nameie and turning his head quickly to make sure she was OK, spotting the female now blocking their way from behind.

"We don't know anything," he said, turning back.

Nameie wasn't too surprised but she was worried. She made sure to stay close to Anackroan, but not up against him as he seemed eager to be, stepping back and turning when she saw the look he gave to.. something over her shoulder. He would have to watch the male, she would watch the female.

"What do you want to know?" she asked, hoping they realized if they did know anything really valuable then they would not be in the alley looking for more information.
