It was just a slight respite, not completely unusual for the older male. He liked his silence every once in a while, just as much as he liked the soft murmur of conversation between his herd. Now didn't feel like the time to take the long trek back home, however. It probably wouldn't be much longer before he wandered back to the group. It wouldn't be too difficult to find them again, he was sure. Tuyet had faith in his tracking abilities. And, if nothing else, he felt some sort of silly thing in his stomach that pricked when his beloved family was near. It was the same as when he neared his snowy homeland.

For now, he wandered along the edge of a stream, as he often did when alone. The cool waters were the closest home-away-from-home he had. The flow was almost as comforting as ice. Dipping his head to the water, he lapped up a bit, his strangely colored tongue flicking up to his lips every once in a while to clear the stray liquid from the fine fur. Eventually he had his fill, belly aching somewhat.

"I guess it's time," he muttered thoughtfully to himself, stepping into the stream to cross to the other side. However, he found himself wading through the water rather then out, enjoying the chill and the feel of it swirling about the long fur at his hooves. It wouldn't hurt to do. No, he could easily follow the stream to where he was going.

Annora wandered along the banks of the stream. She had gone further than normal, curiosity always nagging at the back of her mind. There was something more out there... somewhere, she just knew it. Despite her natural curiosity and her longing for something, well, more, Annora was a genuinely quiet and thoughtful mare. Kind, and above all else, courteous, she would never think twice before placing someone else's needs far above her own.

Despite her traits, however, there were no others for her to care for. She generally roamed alone, pausing here and there to make conversation, an acquaintance, and an occasional friend. She hadn't been quite sure if roaming was also in her nature, but it seemed to come to her as naturally her need to eat, sleep and breathe.

She paused, dipping a fore-hoof delicately into the clear stream, bending for a drink. With her wings folded delicately at her side, she paused regarding her reflection. No. Roaming wasn't in her nature. She was simply searching for something.

Pulling back from the stream her ears perked up as the sound of splashing drifted her way. Something was walking in the stream..?

Finally, feeling himself drifting somewhat thoughtlessly, Tuyet began to step from the water. It wouldn't be good to get lost in the back of his mind and end up straying in the wrong direction. Back on land, he shook out one of his back hooves, more out of reflex than anything. The now soaked end of his scarf dragged the ground heavily until he bit at it with a huff, tossing it haphazardly around until it wrapped around his neck a time or two more.

In his struggles, he rounded a tree unobservantly, taking quite a few more steps forward before returning his gaze to the path and realizing he wasn't alone. Ears flattened back at first, just a reaction of surprise. After a short time of comprehension, they perked back up and he smiled a bit, bright eyes focusing on the blue female poised near the stream he had just been moving in. Just a bit longer in the water and he would've met her awfully closely.

"Hello," he called out in soft greeting, never one to really worry about the type he was coming upon. If necessary he would turn-tail and run, but that certainly wasn't the first thought he had at any meeting.

Her own tension faded when she saw the stallion, pleased it hadn't been anything more dangerous. Still, she knew better than to let her guard completely down. Not yet, anyway. She regarded him thoughtfully for the briefest of moments. Never had she met another Kirin wearing clothing before.

She smiled politely, bowing her head ever so slightly. "Hello to you as well. How fairs the water this day?"

While still being considerate, he moved a bit closer. There was always a socially acceptable distance between himself and his company, but he liked to be close enough to seem interested in the conversation. Canting his head at her question, he let out a small laugh. "It's cold," he admitted, not sounding the least bit bothered by it. "But with the weather heating up as much as it has been, I'm surprised it still feels as chilled."

Glancing down to the stream at their hooves, he smiled. "I like it that way, though, so I've got nothing to complain about. It feels good against the legs."

She nodded her understanding. "The chill is refreshing at times. It can awaken ones senses." She had no doubt that, perhaps, her statement would seem a bit odd coming from one such as her. The rest of her herd had been more tropical in nature. She, however, had grown to find something to enjoy in many different climates and temperatures. Something else she could attribute to her nomadic nature, no doubt.

"That's true," he agreed with a slight nod. Although it would take quite a bit of cold to alert him. After all, his heritage connected him tightly to the cold, though her's might not have. "Although recently I've found myself less and less attentive. It must be the warm weather out of the water," he then mused, an almost sheepish sort of expression crossing his features. "Or I must really be getting old."

Speaking of which-

"Oh, pardon me. My name is Tuyet." The stallion laughed a bit, shifting under the feeling of his slowly trying scarf. It was starting to become uncomfortable. "I guess age is stealing my memory, as well."

She smiled. "One is only as old as they feel and as young as they think, yes?" She bowed her head slightly, acknowledging the introduction. "My name is Annora. It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance, Tuyet." She once again folded her wings neatly at her side, allowing the muscles to relax.

Many things about the stallion across from her intrigued her. Those that spoke loudest were her curiosity of the scarf, and her wonderings of why he, like herself, had journeyed so far from others of their kind. She wouldn't voice her questions, of course. Naturally one might find such curiosity rude upon first meeting.

If nothing else, Tuyet could say he didn't feel old most of the time. His bones rarely creaked and his form wasn't usually stiff or anything of the sort. He felt healthy, like any normal Kirindae. Perhaps no longer as energetic as some, but willing to gallop when necessary and play the occasional game of hide-and-seek. Well, maybe not so much anymore, with the herd's foals grown older and closer to finding their own ways.

Still, he did think he was old, which was one of his flaws, perhaps. Trying to think of himself as young was something he surely wasn't accustomed to, despite not always feeling his age.

Bowing his head slightly, he let out a laugh. "I guess you must be right." Her words were wise, he admitted. Canting his head, he momentarily glanced to the canopy above them. He, if nothing else, was less coy when it came to personal conversation, while still attempting to keep a polite air. "Are you from around here?" He questioned thoughtfully, looking back to her. "It must be hard to fly with so many trees."

"No." She admitted easily. "I'm not from here, actually, nor from anywhere near here." She paused momentarily, reflecting inwardly. How could she explain without sounding perfectly, well, insane.

"I'm quite far from my home, in fact. You see, I tend to be quite the roamer in nature. I've spent most of my time wondering, making friends here and there. I can't explain it, only that there seems to be something calling me."

She fluffed her feathers, preening one of the longer ones. It was a nervous habbit of hers. "I realize how odd that must seem."

At her explaination, a slight smile stuck itself across his maw. He supposed it might seem strange to certain other Kirindae, those with well-established homes, who happened to be comfortable and completely happy in one place. But there was something akin between the two of them. He too felt the compulsion to wander, to search for something despite not being too certain what it was. Tuyet had been nomad for a long time and the wanderlust still hadn't faded. Something told him it probably never would.

Shaking his head, he offered a friendly chuckle. "No, that's not so odd," he told her, sounding steady in his words. "I'm pretty far from home, myself." Lifting his head, he glanced off into the distance, the direction he knew the mountains to be in. Spin him around once or twice and he could still point you Northward.

"I'm a wanderer, myself, since I was old enough to be on my own." Although he hadn't always been alone. That was lucky, he supposed. Letting his eyes fall back onto her, he canted his head. "Maybe we must seem strange to some."

She smiled, feeling even more at ease. "Only to those who don't understand." She said, looking to him. Through her wanderings, she had yet to meet another quite like her. Those she had come across had all had herds and homes of their own. Most had invited her to stay with them, but she had politely declined. She had often wondered if she would settle down at all, even if she did find what she was looking for.

"So it seems we have something in common then."

"That is true," he agreed. There were many of their type still out in the world. Many different faces, names, personalities--most with their own agendas and reasoning. It was foolish to think that everyone would understand everyone else all the time. But the kinship he felt with his species, despite all these differences, at times made him think it was certainly possible to understand someone some of the time, even between conflicting personalities.Or perhaps he was simply too much of an optimist.

"There are many reasons for wandering," he continued, bowing his head slightly. "Perhaps our reasons our different or the same, it's hard to say. But it is always nice to meet a kindred spirit."

He hoped that whatever her reason, she would reach her conclusions eventually. Tuyet felt that for all his years, he had been blessed with conclusions for many, many things. He only wished the same for others.

She reflected upon herself for a moment. She had thought, at one time, her roaming was due to her family. Her foals had moved on, as had their sire, long ago. It had been before they were even grown, in fact. Though, had she been fully honest with herself, she always had been migratory in nature.

"It is indeed." She paused once again. "Where are you headed, Tuyet? Perhaps we may journey together for a while..?"

At her question, he flicked back an ear, more of an immediate reaction than anything else. There was an expression of contemplation on his face. "I would like that," he finally told her, having thought over his family a bit. He knew they would be open and accepting, or so he assumed. But that's really the way they were. "I was originally heading back to my herd," he admitted. "But perhaps we could wander for a while."

He hadn't told them to be expecting him back this time. For all they knew, he could be on another one of this long homeland treks. "Later, if you're not against it, I wouldn't mind introducing you to them." To be honest, he was enjoying his time away from the large group for now. It would be nice to have a quiet journey with a single companion. That was something he hadn't experience before.
