Dawn looked around camp. Shadow, her friend, was wandering around aimlessly. She went over to him. "Why don't you join a hunting patrol?" she asked, nudging him playfully, "Instead of acting like you're useless?" Shadow lifted his head in mock pride. "Fine, I will!" he meowed. Dawn shook her head. She climbed the Great Oak until she found an open sunning spot, and settled down there.

Shadow climbed down the Great Oak, meowing to no one in particular when he reached the bottom, "Hunting patrol anyone?" Dawn looked down at Shadow. He looked like a tiny vole from up here. She closed her eyes as the sun beat down on her fur.

Shadow returned some time later with four mice dangling from his mouth by their tails. He set them down, and then picked one up to eat. Dawn came down to greet him. "Well, it took you long enough!" She stretched her cramped legs and yawned. Suddenly she felt much older than she really was. Shadow saw a strange look in Dawn's eyes and asked her what was wrong. "Oh- oh, nothing, Shadow, I'm fine." Shadow still looked worried, but Dawn flicked his ear with the tip of her tail and walked some way off with a mouse.
